- This Stranglers convention was built around the band’s third album ‘ Black and White’ which they played in it’s near entirety. ‘Black And White’ was the Stranglers third album in a year and a ground breaking release in early 1978. Already argued is the fact that the album was the first post punk release, a real ground changer. It came out of punk and explored the new territory and was dark, stark, surreal and entering a new terrain with an intelligence and an aggression that retained a punk attack but dismantled the music and created something quite new.
It also had the best bass sound ever recorded but that’s another story.
The fact is Stranglers made this into pop music and the album was a big seller in 1978.
The band occasionally still play songs from the album in their set but this revisit of the album was the first time they had played some of the other songs for years or in some cases ever. What was most striking about the set was how little of the material had actually dated and the album’s stark vision of the future remains intact.
Looking forward to the March 2016 tour, when this will be played again. - Развлечения
I heard them.on the radio in 1977 as a 12 year old snd l was hooked and obsessed. Don't think a better band has come out of the UK or USA since then.
Thank you Stranglers for all............
what a truely fucking great band, they were then, they are now, just brillient. love them,
Dave Greenfield what a legend! RIP.
That bass is incredible well-sounding.. they are as great as ever.

Bass during the instrumental section of Walk on By was absolutely stunning in fact the whole band were on point. RIP Dave Greenfield this is an example of his genius. Great post thanks for sharing
the best cover ever nuff said
Good to see my bra has pride of place...fab weekend , lads in great form .
bought this album when it came with the 33 1/3 walk on by single.....fukkin epic time.saw these guys at the roundhouse in london, spit sweat and all.proper punker days.r.i.p dave fly straight.
The best live sound they've ever had .
Check out their gig "Rattus at the Roundhouse" - that's an absolutely fantastic concert too (imo). Just love them. RIP Jet and Dave.
Been listening while doing other things....this is a great choice, showing off some of the band's more obscure material which is not seen elsewhere. I just can't help repeating that this is the best band perhaps ever, certainly for a VERY long time. They are still ahead in so many aspects. Much of this music is 25 years old at the time this was recorded, and the audience is still heavily into it. So am I.
Is there any song more punk than "Shut Up!"?
'Black & White' may just be the most terrifying and yet inspiring albums ever made: 'Nice & Sleazy', 'Threatened' and 'Enough Time' are intimidating, eerie and yet paradoxically thrilling... Unique suite of songs from a band that was clearly on fire.
This is brilliant. Thanks for posting.
I had words with my girlfriend about 35 years ago. She picked up some of my albums are started smashing them on the T.V. One of them was the ''marbled'' vinyl of B & W. I haven't heard her in years but I still hear The Stranglers. 15.14. Toiler on The Sea - Classic.
Thanks for posting
Thanks for this
Jet & Dave in the Stranglers, the good old time... 🥲👍
I wonder if they'll ever do a convention again,I would love to go to one?.
Deffo bass sound EVER
Fact!
Fantastic. ‘In the Shadows’ intro was spot on…
amazing video, thank you for sharing 😍
so many thanks!
@ Andy Marsh. Nice to see a Deadhead besides myself who appreciates the Stranglers.
Top vid. Thank you.
Thanks for this up load Grant, great 1 esp C ing Jet AND Dave 😢😍😁
Great! but when they toured the album a few years later it was even better. They didn't even acknowledge the audience (in Inverness at least) until the album was finished. Then came the banter and a load of classic tracks. Have to say Baz is the perfect front man for the band.
Glad you couls still fill a stadium fells. Good memories back here. All the best. Hail Odin and Havalager Brother All praise be to Grog!
30 women in my bed mo more than 2 at a time... could write a book or two if I chose, I still love those women that were Nice and sleazy and did it every time!
As professional as ever!😎
Them, The Osmonds and The Beatless... Best bands ever

A great review
black and white is my favourite album of the stranglers
Fucking amazing! Always have been! Always will be!
Todo el público tiene como🤔🤔200 años?. Justo como yo. Siempre STRANGLERS😍😍😍😍😍😍
Great to hear them play these tracks. Looking forward to March wonder if they will include Mean to Me, Shut Up again and if they have found a way to play Enough Time. Maybe next year we will get the whole of another album, they nearly did ALL of the Raven last year, perhaps La Folie.
RIP Jet Black and Dave Greenfield. JJ Burnel, the last of the original line-up
the stranglers will be doing this throughout march 2016
Fantastic!

They look like they are enjoying this....
R.I.P. Dave and Jet.
Don't stop gigging guys
RIP Jet & Dave...
Brilliant! Shame about the omission of Enough Time though, pretty tricky without helium I guess & whatever you'd inhale to slow things down also.
RIP Dave
back to the roots👌👌👌👌🤩👍👍👍👍👍👍♨️♨️♨️♨️♨️💀💀💀💀♨️♨️♨️👍👍👍
BOOM ❤
Black n white album always had a live feel on the recording...its like the band are playing in the room when listening,,,the drums sound great on it..always felt the drums lacked the aura of importance on a lot of stranglers albums..
Just fucking wow
I was there….great weekendinblack 🐀
Fingers of Greenfield 😮
R.i.p Dave
Brilliant live version of Walk On By 👌50:10
Jet is an assimilated Borg Jazz Man 😮
Fucking magical
Good to see Jet Black behind his drum kit. Dave Greenfield got bald like me. He should have at least kept the mustache. Not a bad concert, but still not the same without Hugh Cornwell.
Depends which Hugh Cornwell era you're referring to. I agree with you regarding HC up to the mid-80s - a unique force of creativity. But after that, he seemed to be going through the motions (look at footage of the final ever 'original' Stranglers gig). I'd take Baz's musicianship and input over the abomination that was "10", the final 'original' Stranglers release.
Hugh decided to go his own way,so credit to Baz for keeping the Stranglers legacy alive.
This was the last performance I saw with Jet Black on the drums .
Phûk me. I haven't heard this album since last century. I bought it as soon as it came out. Walk on By is phenomenal. The album has been across the Atlantic, twice. Album now in my atic in my home country. Can't get to it as I'm stuck in Asia since 10/19 due this shit scamdemic. Toiler on the Sea.
same here, stuck in S.E Asia under the control of a feckin hot headed lunatic who knows bugger all. I got the album with me though :) , but my record player is fucked, so can't win these days.
Though not a stranglers purist, not even fan of the genre, i have to state that apart from the fact that Black and white is a mastrepiece, some line ups are destined to be intact!!! Event with 3/4ths being here with their immense talents(and yes, people seem to forget that jet black is a genius drummer), there is a link missing....
Still very enjoyable concert..

'But if you worry 'bout your ports of call, you'd never get nothing done at all....'
This is excellent. Is it available on dvd anywhere?
I don't have this on DVD, but I'd give anything for it on DVD, I have a huge collection of the stranglers on DVD from 77 - to the present day which I can copy if anybody wants a trade , please let me know.
@@paulnesbitt1698 the stranglers official released a dvd box set thing called weekend in black after the convention its obviously very rare.

I remember been a young mod in 1979 at Wembley Finchley boys to my right at the front going mental to AC/DC. The stranglers came on and started doing tracks from the raven. Know one had heard them because the album only came out that day,Finchley boys where throwing things at them Hugh stopped the band. Went over to JJ said something JJ went to Jet and Hugh went to Dave the band started again with Tank.
Did you have an education?
