- As The Stranglers approach 50 years since they formed in Surrey, UK in 1974, the legacy of the band continues with the heart and soul founding member Jean-Jacques Burnel and stalwart guitarist since 2000 Baz Warne.
The most recent Stranglers album ‘Dark Matters’ was the 18th for the band but it was also a bittersweet release. It was the first to not feature founding member Jet Black, who retired in 2015 and passed away in 2022. It also features the last work of Dave Greenfield, who joined the band in 1975 and played on every album before his passing in 2020.
Jean-Jacques Burnel and Baz Warne remain committed to The Stranglers and have a run for Australian dates in April 2022.
Baz spoke with Noise11.com’s Paul Cashmere.

Star act, Baz ❤
Baz is a class act ….The Stranglers got back to the levels life long fans loved when Baz got on board …and the band became a foursome again with Baz sharing as front man with JJ and yes “Dark Matters “ is a gem of an album …the band is still as exciting as ever ,I hope the Stranglers carry on for as long as they feel they can…yep keyboard player Toby is a fantastic player of the keys and a flawless addition along with the Drummer
Great interview. Thank you.
Great interview.'Dark Matters' is such a great album, that and 'Norfolk Coast' are my fave Stranglers albums
Baz Warne is a brilliant musician and singer.
What a wonderful interview with Baz. Love The Stranglers .
the greatest blow . . . . is losing Dave ; not to diminish the loss of Huge (as my Russian wife calls Hugh) & Brian/Jet . . . . thanx hairless Baz for supporting the legend, JJ ~ keep going Buddies . . . . and the newest 2 HEROES x
Baz comes across a really genuine, down to earth guy.
Great interview enjoyed watching your video
He’s not everyone’s cup of tea but it’s testament to Hugh’s guitar playing that Baz has stayed close to the originals 😎
Amazing night at the Sheffield city Hall tonight…blown away 🤪
So looking forward to the Albert Hall in march
Lovely. I'm really looking forward to their next concert. Bought my ticket the second it was announced. Last time was brilliant.
The interviewer slipped up just once…he spoke about the audience being fearful of hearing the new album. The new album is top 👍
Stranglers. Best. Band. Ever.
We have all..,,,,gotten so goddamned old. I'm from Alabama, huge fan. But I step a little bit slower myself, these days.
Great interview, wish they would grace the nice n sleazy festival stage…maybe one day🤞🙏
Just realised Hugh had left the band?
Smashing interview!
Right on Baz 🎉
He’s not reffering to any drummers here, is he? 😅
From 1974 JJ was the main man. Still is. When he goes it's over.
@elizacoleman5901Exactly 💯
Nah. Hugh was the main man!
Shit band now
