Love this video Lindsay Adler, its good to be shown that sometimes keeping things minimal can lead to awesome shots! Thanks ADORAMA for having someone of the level of Lindsay Adler on your great channel where we can see all that is possible with the great Gear you guys have available at your store and stie!
Yeah, well, I was prepared to not like #3- a low, single bare bulb light bouncing upward? Are you kidding me? A Halloween flashlight effect? Right. What do I know? What I should know is Lindsay Adler can make anything look like a plan. Well done! My take away from this is I do need to experiment more. Once again, you're the real deal. Thanks for sharing this eye-opener!
Oh yes very nice - despite several years experience/practice I still often find myself a little overwhelmed when I have a model in front of me even though planned ideas and moodboard and what lighting and modifiers but I start to re-think and over think the lighting and modifier choices and change mind - going back to the most basic bare bulb has saved me a few times as i then build back up from there - thanks so much for confirming in my mind this is a valid approach!
wonderfully inspiring and beautifully easy to understand with elegance.. i'm glued to your videos.. would love to see you as model, you have a lovely beautiful look!!
@@lindsayadlerphoto i truly love your style of contents, your models choice, how simple set-up can do superb images and your elegance (you look always superb)!! ..sometime you speak too fast for me but it's only because my english is not great.. don't stop to continue your wonderful and inspiring creativities!!
Usually with a bare bulb setup you get double shadowing transition edge, so I attach tissue paper over the front of the flash with lightly softens that edge.
This is a great, simple tutorial that is SO telling -- taking gear largely *out* of the equation can demand even greater inspiration and planned artistic outcomes. Really good stuff. One aside -- am I the only old-timer out there who was surpsied that Ms. Adler described her lighting as "bare bulb"? I saw a strobe without softobox or umbrella, but the tube was still focused and directional by cirtue of its mount. My vocabulary, I think shared by others, might call that a "bare" or even "unadorned" strobe, but would reserve "bare bulb" to a fully exposed bulb spilling its light in an even broader pattern. Anyone else have a similar reponse? PS My focus on vocabulary isn't about "I'm right and you're wrong," but more about consistency so that teaching and sharing information are made easier by a true common vocabulary. I'm wondering if I have an overly limited view of the term "bare bulb." Thanks, Ms. Adler!
I imagine with a relatively plain background like this it wouldn't be terrible to have a bit of the cinefoil visible in the corner of the frame, since it wold be fairly easy to paint it out in post.
Well, that's not a "bare" bulb, as the bulb in those Profoto D's is inside a plastic tube, so spreads differently from a proper bare bulb, that sprays light all over, especially on sides and even partially behind itself, so you do have much more light reflection and color contamination from walls and stuff around. That's actually like a bulb inside a small reflector, tbh.
Is the flash coming from the single strobe that's being used as a consistent light? I didn't know strobes can be a consistent light and flash when you press the shutter button at the same time.
Herb Ritts, Helmut Newton, Richard Avedon & Peter lindbergh were all incredible, Lindsey is the closest today with that brilliant style- yet with her creativity and her originally mixed in--bravo!! 👍
I love the concept , real beautiful. abut how do you get it to look pure black & white like that ? Do you just enable black & white in capture one or do you mess around with saturation ?
Fall is coming up and Holidays. Wish Adorama and Lindsay great success this year and next.

Do you have a favorite program that you use with your tether tool?

Hmmm... maybe just bare? cause the bulb isn't bare. But bare sounded funny. That sounds fair to me! So Bare strobe?
Profoto Hardbox next 👏

totally true. agreed!
Thank!!!

So, bare head then I suppose?

The modelling light switches off when the strobe fires.

Where can I get that lightstand and boom arm?
If you check out my videos here on Adorama RUclips I have a whole video about the stands I use. :D
1. Doesn’t need a lot of complicated gear.
2. Sculpt the light.
Lesson taken.
I love the concept , real beautiful. abut how do you get it to look pure black & white like that ? Do you just enable black & white in capture one or do you mess around with saturation ?
contrast contrast contrast all day!
I always forget how simple those $2500 single light setups can be!
You can do this with a $150 light.
This was great Lindsay, I was curious if you TTL'ed your exposure or metered to get the D2 to power to the F-stop you wanted. Thank you for sharing...
Metering... or guessing. :D. Like the lost shot it was definitely a guessing game to get it to look 'right'
how do you avoid hot spot when using bare bulb?
What lightstand are you using?!?
🤟🏼😎🤝
