    Thank you Dr Tabias. I had a stroke in June 2018. In the beginning my daily excercises were smooth and easy not until stiffness, pain and spasticity kicks in. And because my muscle coordination is worsening, to the point I got scared, I might get crippled, I stop excercising. When I saw your videos, specially those isolating excercises on each areas, I feel better again. My stiffness, pain and spasticity are getting less and less. I want to excercise more and more again. This video directly targets my problem in the area again.
    I must say, you are so helpful Dr Tabias. Your videos gives me an understanding on what Iam going through and how to go about it. It gives me hope that soon I can go back to normal again. Thank you.

    Most of us can't grasp the wealth of knowledge Dr. Tobias just dropped on us. By far one of my favorite videos! I do have an question. When externally rotating humerus I tend to overcompensate with my trap especially against gravity. Should I just practice these laying down?

    • @rehabhqofficial
      @rehabhqofficial  3 года назад +5

      Hi Tony! I am so glad you liked this one! You bring up a very common problem in regards to the trap. Usually the upper trap is over active and the lower trap is under active but I will get into that more in next weeks video. All that being said, I think when stretching, get in a position where you can be the most relaxed (ie: not feel like you have to work to maintain the position). I hope that makes sense!

    OMG Tara
    You are the first practitioner besides my rehab physician who has EVER mentioned the coricobrachialis muscle !! I am 14 years post CVA and spasticity in that muscle was the most painful thing I have ever experienced - including child birth.
    While I still have spasticity, thanks to Botox early on, regular stretching, exercises and “rehab through daily activities “ my coricobrachialis has been pretty well behaved.
    As an aside, I find it amusing that the muscle charts that I have seen from the Botox people don’t even show the coricobrachialis!
    Thanks for your library of videos, very interesting and helpful.

      I am so glad you have a physiatrist who addressed ths! Yes, most physiatrists focus on the pecs and bicep 😫 That little bugger (coracobrachialis) is left to "go to town" and cause pain under the arm and down the entire side of the body. Thanks for sharing your success story with the botox!!

I understand I have recovered a lot but my left shoulder still bothers me a bit and my left hand does not have the proper movements I can grab some things with the help of My right hand, for example, I put a bottle of water in my left and I can hold it but it's difficult to let go. I continue doing therapies on my own and watching your videos that I must do to recover the movement of the hand. Thanks in advance. Greetings and hugs from Puerto Rico.

    As an OT who's worked with many folks post CVA, it would be really tough to get most people in this prone position and get the elbow straight like that

    • @rehabhqofficial
      @rehabhqofficial  3 года назад +6

      It is not easy, but it can be done. That being said, if someone is working with a therapist, the same principles can be applied. Just takes some creativity to figure out different positions. In my experience, OTs rarely even get people on a mat. Prone or supine. So if you are getting your patients in supine, you can assist them to get the range so that eventually they can lay prone. Also, I often have to start with the arm extended on a lower mat next to the mat they are lying on. I hope that helps!....additionally, from one clinician to another, my first thought is NOT typically, "my patient can't do that". My first thought when I am presented with a challenge, is how do I modify this to make it possible.

    So many stroke survivors I have talked to are desperate for euthanasia to be legalised. Some of these people have had several years since a stroke behind them, and rationally explained their reasoning. We treat dogs and cats more humanely than people. They especially dislike people thinking they know better.

    I don’t know if you can answer that, though. I exercise on my own, 4 years after my stroke. I just see some things I need to be doing (related to improving my walking, etc.).
    On a related note: I’ve told myself that I need to wait al least a week or more before I buy any new products; there seems to be a lot that I could buy. 😅

    Dr. Tobias, Are there good exercises or a video for someone with symptoms similar to ALS- spasticity in the hand, wasting of muscles in the hand and arm, phlegm in the throat, etc. but who doesn't have ALS. Maybe bulbar symptoms. This is from benzo withdrawal and mitochondrial poisoning from concurrent use of benzo, alcohol and green tea poisoning. Possible thiamine deficiency on top of this and covid. Some don't recommend strenuous exercise for people with ALS. Is there a health club nationwide that addresses exercise for those with neuro issues? Really appreciate your highly advanced and intelligent videos so much better than iphone exercise apps.

    Thank you, Dr. Tara for sharing your knowledge and your words of encouragement.
    I write because I would appreciate your suggestion to my concern.
    My physiotherapist told me that she could not take me back for physical therapy until I could move my arm. I have taken Botox treatment since 2019 but had not had physical therapy to stretch my arm. I believe that I will not be able to gain the benefits of Botox if I do not get physical therapy. I cannot use my right arm and fingers, which is the uninvolved arm and fingers, because I have osteoarthritis in my wrist and all my fingers.
    I kindly ask you if you have any suggestions for me.
    Thank you very much.
