To be fair, it's not completely Rhino's fault. Passenger vehicles aren't designed to carry loads on the roof. The roof rails can only hold so much before, as Tyler experienced, the fasteners rip right out. What's the point of putting a 500kg rated roof rack on, when the roof fixing point can only hold 50kg off road? The only way around it is to install internal roll bars and attach to them through the roof metal.
I do agree Rhino's public relations exercise was disappointing.

Ronny - you are among the rare influencers who keeps it real. One thing I don't understand about modern vehicles is that the roof ratings are so low and there are very few ways to safely add load bearing structures. Older vehicles with metal rain gutters, or roofs with traditional load capable bars used to be the safest way to add loads. But modern utes are not designed for this and while I agree that Rhino and other rack manufacturers need to be more upfront, the fact is that the vehicle manufactures need to do a better job of designing vehicles to do the things they know their owners will use them for. Note - the new Land Rover Defender is designed for a much heavier roof load and how ever much I don't like other things about that vehicle I think we (the overland community) must give LR props for that. Airbags though.., no.

@Shaun McCarthy Oh for sure; and having more mounting points to also distribute the load helps. Something I must say about my rack on the Hilux at the moment; is that Eezi awn actually install an aluminium gutter, which is glued and riveted onto the roof which 8 rivets; then the roof racks feet are mounted to that gutter. To me this allows the rack to use the entire gutter to distribute load; instead of just the rivets. It may not look as nice or slick as other racks, mounting solutions, but its solid.

Ronny - how I read the RhinoRack instructions, the 1.5 safety factor is applied to the rack's load limit, not the car's roof max carrying capacity. You mentioned yourself that the car's roof limit is 75 kg on and off road. In your example the off road rating would be 32 kg (48/1.5) instead of 23 kg (75/1.5 - 27). It makes it slightly better.

Your content is pure and that's what people want. Because if it's pure, it brings us all closer together. And not divide us.
On roof racks......it's one thing i will NEVER fit on my vehicle. I drive a 79 dual cab like yours. Forget what brand it is. It's a piece of metal clamped or bolted to a sheetmetal roof of a moving vehicle. With things mounted to it. In my opinion all roof racks are dangerous, especially in an accident. I just don't see the sense in them. And as you stated, weight up high is a big no no especially when 4 wheel driving.

Kudos, mate! You are an honest bloke. Don't be too hard on yourself. I ordered a Frontrunner Slimline II (toughest rack) when I ordered my Troopy in Germany. When I picked it up I realised that they have installed a Rhino Rack Pioneer. I somehow accepted it because they told me that there are no differences. On top I had a very long drive to pick up the car and I didn't want to return without it. I have an iKamper Skycamp on top and therefore already beyond the rack's limits. Couldn't find proper info on offroad load capacity when picked up the Land Cruiser. What is the sense in having rack on an offroader when overlanding is impossible. That's BS. By the way, I bought a Rhino Rack Batwing and it broke on the first trip. Poor quality. Ronny, thanks for your honesty and valuable info. Rhino Rack, step up your game!

I commend Ronnie on owning up to his mistake.
This is huge though. It almost tends to make roof racks obsolete. I can't imagine there are many vehicles that are able to take a sizable enough load to make a mounting a roof rack worth it but that are also trail friendly. In my mind I'll just throw gear in the back of my truck and not worry about it. I look forward to hearing more on Friday's video.
I'll definitely be looking at all the trucks driving around town with huge Pelican cases and Alumu-Boxes mounted up top differently now.

Well said Rhonny and I’m glad to see you own it. I, a disgruntled rhino rack owner, agree more disclosure is needed and I’m glad they are doing this moving forward. I found my offroad rating after ordering online and now have a rack that is...less than my original expectations, but it’s too late for me, I hope this helps many other realise the limitations of these products.
I’d also like to know what rhinorack does manufacture in Australia, as every single box of my setup (mounting feet and platform, not a backbone system) had “made in China” stamped on the side of every box.
I hope to one day buy a frontrunner or equivalent, but, that will take some saving as I am hesitant to put my rhino platform up for sale to someone else, after learning just how much it misses the mark.
