Super interested in this as probably 90% of damage/marks & scrapes on my vehicle have come from others opening their door and hitting my vehicle. Extremely frustrating 🤬
I really liked the recovery tuition you provided. Having zero experience in a recovery, I found that very informative. Thanks once again Ronny. You are always my go-to for common-sense 4WD advice.
What i like about you Ronny is you make a living out of something you love doing. Great channel and a great hilux build. I don't have that kind of expendable cash flow so I get out there in a 20 yr old slightly modified prado. Would be good to see you do a budget build project one day
Ronny, I live in Namibia and we have 80 % gravel roads. So I have a quick and simple temporary solution for the rocks bouncing on to your tailgate. (until you get the Rhino Hide). Make a tubing frame a bit wider than your tailgate. Wrap it around with some shade net. This frame just snaps into a bracket that mounts to your towbar. Let me know I can send you a photo of such a sample. Great video
I like the Rhino Hide idea, and the look is different and functional. It is to bad it is for the newer vehicle market, gives me an idea to create my own.
I’d like to touch on the topic of the winch blankets, your fuse shackle and safety. Have you ever considered attaching a second line to both vehicles which “catches” the tow strap if it fails at the shackle? I’m talking about 500lb paracord, which should catch catch the projectile but will then snap immediately if the towing vehicle moves and puts load on it.
Awesome Vid Ronny! Is the Rhinohide you have here the same black that is available on their website? I have a graphite SR5 myself and i'll definitely be ordering a set, can never have too much protection from all the mums and kids at the local shopping centre!
I like a rivoted/look of the rhino armor. Not sure if my cheap ass would shell out the money however, but not likely that its available in my market/model regardless. But definitely a cool idea.
Great stuff Ronny 👍. Really valuable content. Apologies if this question already asked/answered. I couldn't go through all 347 commencements 🤘Where did you get the decal done on the armour? Would standard car decal would stick?
Best seat covers I could find are the foam backed denim and canvas from gotya covered seatcovers. Got them on my '18 Lux. Best fitting and I compared alot of brands.
Ronny, I know you no longer have the hilux but you still have rhino hide fitted to the cruiser. Any dramas with it rubbing on the trucks panels and getting stuff behind the rhino hide causing panel damage. Thx
Hey Zen. We did a special edition for Ronny that was colour-matched. Paint adhesion is great, so you can use colour-match cans from the auto-store or get it professionally done.
I like the new fittings for the armor. However, I think it still needs to be cleaned on the backside if you want to keep it from scratching the original paint. Dirt, dust and water gets in just about anywhere, and I don´t see how this is any different. Nice tips about the easy access necessities and the towing/winching parts. When you´re bogged in, you might think more about getting your ass on the road again than safety. This is always good to think through beforehand.
Nice vid! Doing a modest weight conscious build up of my Tacoma here in the States. This Rhino armor is a cool idea, would consider it for stage II if they ever released it State side! Keep ‘em coming!!
Hi Ronny, greetings from Saudi Arabia and thanks for very informative videos. Can you share tips for using rope extensions. I assume the soft shackles comes in handy for that purpose?
I think youll find that the issue with all decals magnetic is they not only attract dust and debris, they will chatter. i would recomend a 3M clear coat protectant before fitting those panels as there is definately a problem with scuffing paint.
Hey Steve, please note that this is not a magnetic system, so attracts no dust/debris. These also are road-rated for 130km/h with no 'chatter'. There is also an air gap and patented panel suspension system so no scuffing will occur with Rhinohide. Here's a comparison page to help you better understand the system: www.rhinohide.com.au/pages/product-comparison
which do you prefer? 4elements or canvas in terms of the long term? can you do a review one day? really appreciate your content as a fellow 4wdriver down under. keep up the good work, cheers!
I went with Bush Wrapz instead for pinstripe protection. Cheap, weighs nothing, install and forget, makes the ute look freshly washed at all times and you can actually do water crossings with it.
@@rhinohide4x4 not really. Rhinohide weighs a ton, costs a lot and makes your ute look like a toddler was left unsupervised with a pop rivet gun. Granted it'll take a harder hit.
Did you spray the hide a different colour ??? I noticed yours is graphite the same as the ute, I got mine but it’s black ! So did you get it that colour ?? Or not
You put some paint protection film like 3m it's self healing and obviously removable. Best part is the cost is cheaper than anything else especially if you're able to apply it yourself. BTW they sell pre-cut kits in various thicknesses. I've used it for hoods fenders and mirrors/headlights works great.
Hey Jason, the primary downfall of any film system is the complete lack of dent protection, plus the ability to rip/tear down to the paintwork from larger brush and sticks. This is where the Rhinohide Armor system is in a league of its own. Our Armor-Lock suspension technology, is proven to protect from Carparks to the Countryside! Wait for our upcoming videos to see a demonstration.
Hey Ronnie, what are you doing for under carriage protection. Heard you say you don't think ERP is effective. Also, any sprays you use to make cleaning easier engine and under carriage after bog holes and mud.
I'd love it if Rhino Hide expanded their range to include Mitsubishi Pajero. Those panels look far far superior to other products and provided an added level of impact protection over Raptor paint or similar.
I think they'd also be pretty cool and useful if they made wagon sets that covered the windows. Amazing how a few windows covered can make a difference to vehicle temp. (and avoid chipped glass).
Another great clip Ronny. Bought the rhino hide for my hilux after watching this. Due to covid there were a few months of delays getting it but stoked to have it now. Can you post some pics of the snorkel front 1/4 panel? The armour as supplied does not have a cutout for the snorkel sadly and there are no clear instructions on the rhino hide website on how to cut it out or apply new tabs. "Cut it out with shop scissors" sounds a bit bodgy and crude and both the local bodyshops I've been to suggested I don't do that.
If the dust and sand will get between the armor plate and door itself? If there will be a water and freeze? I believe armor film is much better protection. In Russia we use film and different coatings like line-x.
Hey Dimtry, there is a clear gap between the panel and the door, with the only contact points at the Amor-Locks themselves. Worth noting that the Armor-Locks are both water and salt resistant. The ABS plastic is also rated from -30 to +90 degrees Celsius. The challenge for anyone with film is tears through to paintwork and dents. The Rhinohide is built to withstand both of these.
Nice, but they need more models.. surprised there is no GU version.. Been asking for one in the old Rhino Hide for 2 years but no news. I assume we won't get one in this new system either :(

Ronny, do you still throw the Deadman in your recovery kit when you hit tricky beaches?
So at the start Ronny says only modifications that are necessary. Few months in, ute is hardly recognisable as a HiLux.
I feel it’s necessary for me to cover the entire vehicle with mods so that people like yourself can see and pick what you need and not everything.
All that said I actually use everything that’s on the Luxy so far
The 33’s could have been just 32’s so that’s one area it’s not necessary. And 31.5’s where actually enough too but looked like skateboard wheels
