We absolutely loved visiting Amy's Earthship home! Her passion for Earthship design radiates from her and she is an absolute wealth of knowledge. Earthships have been a fascination of mine ever since watching the film Garbage Warrior and since then I have always ventured to incorporate as many of these design principles into my own projects as possible. This is a shining example of a home which is completely self-sufficient, radically sustainable and which has a positive impact on the world around it. We hope you enjoy the tour!
Bryce and Rasa, once again, thank you for finding Amy and bringing her fascinating story to us. She and her build radiate warmth. I love the colors she chose for her solid walls and how they accent those amazing bottle walls. I adore the earthsip movement. It's been at least 10 yr, quite possibly more since I've known about them and have coveted one ever since. Using TRASH to make a home, and other things has been my passion for a long time. It's really hard to get people to understand and buy into the concept. To them, trash is to be discarded. Amy is so fortunate to have a community of such awesome friends who understood and were totally on board to help her action her lovely dream. That bench top is sooo stunning. I love❤ the color and character it lends to the home as well as the coffee table her friend gifted her with for the lounge. Bravo to her and all her friends. Bryce and Rasa I think it would be lovely to include whatever adventures Amy has or had with her cute little home on wheels/travel trailer that I saw. TFS ❤❤

@@anio1349 Heating likely wouldn't be an issue, as a heat pump could be used to pull more heat from the Earth (can provide 4x the heat for energy used). Typically earth homes are located in a dryer climate, not sure how would be adopted to a climate with more seasonal moisture. In US, most are located in Arizona, or New Mexico. This is a good question.
@@anio1349there are a few videos of earthships in the canadian prairies, where it gets cold in winter. They need a heater to stay warm. This is absolutely extraordinary! The bottle walls, the carve-outs in the walls, greenhouse and overall design is brilliant including the passive ventilation system - I totally love this place. Gotta say, this is my favorite of the year! I am curious though: what materials were used for the roof and what kind of finishing was used for the ceiling?
Guessing metal roof since collecting rainwater. Conventional ceiling with plentiful insulation would be my guess. I wonder how difficult the required building permits were, especially during COVID. I was surprised the cost was so high, until I realized she had the solar system, septic system, rainwater storage, greenhouse and COVID to factor in. The bathroom rivals any I have seen, and coveted. That tub! TFS
My dream is still to build an earthship style house. A lot of details that I would do differently (rammed earth instead of tire walls, composting toilets, two story house, a rocket mass heater tied into in-floor radiant heating, solar water heaters...) but it will utilize a lot of the basic principles (water collection and recycling, thermal mass, solar heating, earth berm, cooling tubes...)

Just some quick notes from the designer of this Earthship home (not a tiny house) in response to comments on RUclips. 1. The tyres you can see out front are intended to be hidden by a timber deck which has not been constructed yet. 2. A garden around the home will be planted soon. This is best done after all the construction work has been completed. 3. There is wire mesh over the end of the cooling tubes (aka earth tubes) to stop insects, rodents, and reptiles getting in (and cats getting out!) 4. Earthship homes have great indoor air quality due to the constant (24/7) ventilation coming through the cooling tubes. In the winter the cooling tubes function as warming tubes! Consequently, any off gassing from MDF, plywood, carpet, furniture, tile glue, humans and maybe just maybe a tiny amount from the tyres is safely blown out of the building by the constant cross-ventilation. Furthermore, tyres tend to off-gas (release VOCs into the air) when they are new. After they have been on the road for thousands of hours, in the sun, rain and wind, they do not off-gas significant quantities of VOCs. If you are in doubt use your nose as a VOC detector. Whats more, in a finished Earthship home, the tyres are covered with plaster/render and protected from water with water proofing and drainage products - the tyres will NOT come into contact with water, sun, air or fire. They are protected from the elements. And hence there is nothing to be concerned about with regard to building with tyres. What IS concerning is the microplastic rubber particles in your lungs, caused by tyres wearing down on the roads. Tyre dust is in the air we breathe. 5. It is not possible to explain everything in a video - great job Amy, Bryce and Rasa!
I've just been mumbling straw bale waffle pod under my breath repeatedly. It's so pleasing to say. Sounds like a Douglas Adams character. Major Zaphod Beeblebrox vibes.
Amy what a gorgeous soul you are. No wonder you have so many friends because you are such a beautiful lady. It's so gorgeous. Love the bottle designs. Love your sweet cats. You must be so proud. Love your earth ship and your attitude. Thank you for sharing. Thanks Bryce and Rasa you are both amazing as are all your guests. Warmest regards Charlotte
This looks like an improved design of the Earthship. One thing I noticed is the windows at the front are vertical instead of at an angle seen in some of the New Mexico Earthships and I suspect that lean puts less strain on the window frame. Keeping the window vertical is a better-engineered design. I personally have never been a fan of the bottles in the wall, but it seems to be a requirement to join the Earthship club. What I would like to do someday is combine some Earthship passive heating/cooling design elements with a "barndominium" build style. Would do a glass-covered porch area facing the sun to act as a buffer to the outside, and put a berm on the back side of the house with geothermal, or cooling tubes to help cool/warm the large garage side of the home. It will be too big to be on Living Big In A Tiny House, but seeing so many out-side-of-the-box thinkers gives many inspiring ideas.
Wow what a beautiful and smart home Amy has created. I love that it was a community project and that it also taught others how to build earthships. An earthship is my dream home. Well done! Fantastic video!
The result is so amazing. Imagine waking up with that view from your bedroom, banana tree and all that greens. So pretty. I love the bottle wall so much. Unique and so pretty when the sunlight gets through. And that ying yang hole is so cool too 😆😆😆 I hope we can see more earthship from this channel.
I'm speechless!! This huge-tiny earthship is one of the most beautiful houses seen so far. The passion and commitment that went into the construction of this masterpiece is commendable! A spectacular project. Thanks Bryce and Rasa. I hope that this year for Christmas greetings many inhabitants of the Tiny Houses will record a greeting video, so I can see everyone together with pleasure. A big hug from Livorno, Tuscany, Italy and I hope that soon I will be able to realize my dream of having a Tiny House and communicate it to you!! Happy Holidays to you and your families.
Great house, I wonder what the practicalities are with regard to dealing with termites in South Australia. I know the walls and floor are fine, I wonder if the roof is timber or metal construction?
Wow, this is The Most Beautiful earthship home I have ever seen !! I admit, I never thought they were attractive, until now, just sufficient. It is spacious, I like the decor. Ooh la la that bathtub ! The garden is lovely, to wake up every morning looking at that banana tree is a bonus. You are right, you were blessed to have such good friends to help you build this beauty. To donate their time and the beautiful types of wood. You have everything you need in a home, enjoy !!
I wonder what it feels like living in there. Such a different idea than how we build today by just slapping mechanical systems in to do the work the house isn’t built to do
I absolutely love her Earthship design!! It’s beautiful and functional! The thing I love most about Earthships is that you take care of the home and it takes care of you!! Cheers
I LOVE this Earthship! It has more light and sunshine that any other earthship I've seen, and the layout speaks of her intentional designing. What a beautiful home. Way to go, Amy!
it's too late for me... I'm 57 years old, I'm single and I haven't the first cent of money to build up such a dream home. I even don't know if Earth Ship houses are allow in France where I'm living!! But, in a dream world that is exactely the house I would build. Congratulations, you have acheived the dream of a lot of people.
I assumed earth ship homes needed to be built into an existing hill but it's nice to see you can create your own anywhere. I love the idea of putting colored resin in the bottom of the bottles so as not to be limited by the color of the original bottles. What a beautiful place to call home.
What an amazing person! So positive, appreciative; great explanation about the house and its design. She should make videos about earthships, passive design, etc.
Was the $350k including the land aswell? I would love to build an earthship but more really sure where to start, what they can have, and how much it’d all cost.
Love this gals speech. her inflection while speaking is awesome - mostly ends with an upward inflection. I don’t know what to say other than she is an amazing gal with an amazing dialect which is rare because she ends her sentences with an upward pitch which is weird & sweet.
Such a beautiful home and love the Earthship construction. I visited Taos, NM in 1997 and saw first hand the Earthship community north of Taos~Amy is Lovely and love her high energy~💚💛💗
The bottle walls are the only thing I dislike. They induce trypophobia. Also the berm ventilation pipes, what if pests come in through them? Don't they?
Wow what a beautiful earthship! Awesome to see one in a subburbs! Is there a video that goes into this earthship in more detail I wanted to get to understand the water catchment and 4 uses.
I love this but I thought a lot of dangerous chemicals are used in the production of tyres- is there not a health risk to using them or are measures taken to mitigate the risks?
very cool to see an earthship in the subburbs. wish this video went in more debth in the water system and four uses of water. is there a video that goes in more detail on this earthship?
So much to love about this video Bryce. Loved the home and loved her. Such great energy and positivism. It was interesting to hear about her journey of how she came to build an earthship home. All because she was volunteering in Nicaragua where she wound up helping to build a school there using this process. And who knew there was a class/seminar one could take to learn more about it as she did when she traveled to Taos, NM and then the serendipity of having an earthship guru right in her area where she was able to work on another monthlong project. Pretty amazing journey.
Beautiful Home! Loved that greenhouse hallway! Not sure if Australia gets earthquakes or not. I am wondering how this holds up if in case there is an earthquake.
Used to live around the corner from Amy when she started. Met her a couple times. Remember everyone camping down the road, so good to see it finished, looks amazing.

A simply gorgeous E🌍rth Ship! I love the bottles with their colors, designs, and etched words, the beautiful wood features, the windows and solarium hallway. Just takes my breath away!
WOW is right! This is spectacular! I would love to create an earthship.
my burning question is how she keeps the cats from using the greenhouse beds as their potty.
She probably has cat litter boxes available.
Wow, this blew me away...Your home is self-sufficient and beautiful 😍..... your caring for the environment is most amazing. Looking at your home from the outside you wouldn't think it is not a regular home...Your kitties are gorgeous 😍...I see you have a covered garage and a camper for those adventures....are you going to be doing landscaping in the front of your home...Lots of luck
I LOVED this video! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Absolutely wonderful! I have been in love with earth ships for a few years. They never disappoint and Amy did a fabulous job with hers. So blessed and protected on her journey. She’s a gem! Listening to her story, working with children and the friends or strangers that came in to offer help. Perfect alignment! Bravo! This was absolutely beautiful! ❤️
This house is so beautiful and extremely liveable. The greenhouse is so pretty, yet a practical useable space, not just a corridor or hallway.
Absolutely stunning! This is the best earthship home I have ever seen. 😊👏
pure heaven. this is the coolest place yet. just beautiful and space to live.
Just stunning, thank you for posting!
Lol this is definitely not a tiny home, but I'm so glad you two featured it! Wonderful build and Amy did a wonderful job of explaining it's features!
Amazing. I love this earthship and it's great to see the lady is so happy about her wonderful home.
What a great home for Amy😊 It’s perfect!! I love everything about it, and Amy is such a great conversationist! I’d LOVE to spend a day with Amy, I could listen to her stories all day god love her😍 She is so informative! I wonder what area she lives?🤔
LOVE how she describes the house giving her a big warm hug on a cool day, she’s so lovely and sweet!😍💗🌻💐
3. There is wire mesh over the end of the cooling tubes (aka earth tubes) to stop insects, rodents, and reptiles getting in (and cats getting out!)
I'm curious about working with the local city planning commission--how did they accept this idea and was it difficult to get the designs approved?
I've just been mumbling straw bale waffle pod under my breath repeatedly. It's so pleasing to say. Sounds like a Douglas Adams character. Major Zaphod Beeblebrox vibes.
😂
you saved me from having to watch that bit again to write it down lol
Very impressive! Creative, sustainable and beautiful. Outstanding!
How fabulous to be able save so many tires from the landfill. The design and final touches make this most special place. Amy is delightful !
That home says comfort, security, happiness and serenity. Absolutely stunning.
I love these types of homes, perfect size too. Earth ships are incredible and I feel you have more freedom of how you design your home to.
Great house, I wonder what the practicalities are with regard to dealing with termites in South Australia. I know the walls and floor are fine, I wonder if the roof is timber or metal construction?
Treated timber was specified for all structural elements (roof and walls) plus there is a termite baiting/monitoring system.
This is one of my favourite earthships that l have ever seen. Wow. ❤
Will this be considered tiny? I don't think so. It's gorgeously big.
What a beautiful place to call home.
the colored resin in the bottles is a game changer--a world of colorful possibilities!
What an amazing person! So positive, appreciative; great explanation about the house and its design. She should make videos about earthships, passive design, etc.
Stunning well done Amy thank you for showing us your Earthship Home and thank you Bryce and Rasa for finding this absolute gem xo 💜
Not tiny at all, Love it, but I would have chosen other colors, and different decorations and furniture choices. But still very beautiful!
This is by far, bar none, one of the BEST homes you've featured, and that's saying something. WOW! It's spectacular!
Cooling tubes...hmm. What's to prevent critters from crawling inside and make a nest in there?
Absolutely stunning!!!
This has to be in my top 3 homes.
Just wonderful; the decor, the space, the greenhouse. Wow!
This is very interesting. And absolutely amazing. I'm inspired ❤Thank you for sharing!
Such a beautiful home and love the Earthship construction. I visited Taos, NM in 1997 and saw first hand the Earthship community north of Taos~Amy is Lovely and love her high energy~💚💛💗
Have you ever had critters access the house through the air tubes?
The bottle walls are the only thing I dislike. They induce trypophobia.
Also the berm ventilation pipes, what if pests come in through them? Don't they?
There is mesh to stop any creatures coming in or out
@@lb282012 Thank God.
Wow what a beautiful earthship! Awesome to see one in a subburbs! Is there a video that goes into this earthship in more detail I wanted to get to understand the water catchment and 4 uses.
Onya Aimee,
Go South Australia, hope to see more earthships in the future.
I would Lv to have one built.
Cheers from Stephen in Australia
Cracks me up when people end their sentences on an up note, like they're asking a question. Hahaha. But I do love the house.
New Mexico here, I love earthships! This is beautiful.
Loved this! Amy has a stunner of a home. Thank you, Bryce and Rasa, for sharing this.
How do u stop bugs, rodents, snakes etc from going in the air pipes?
I love this video. She's lucky.
Used to live around the corner from Amy when she started. Met her a couple times. Remember everyone camping down the road, so good to see it finished, looks amazing.
Love your passion for all the various homes!
This is definitely my number one property you have visited. Amy is truly blessed. Thank you for sharing. Beautiful!!! ❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️
Just, wow! This! I wish to get one for myself 💟 Thank you Amy, Bryce, and Raza for sharing this beautiful creation.
I absolutely love how this earthship was designed and decorated! I want an earthship too one day and I'll be sure to rewatch this video from my RUclips favorites for inspiration when the time comes ☯️
I'd say that she is an old soul.defo been here before.I can usually spot them...🤗
Literally one of the COOLEST homes I have ever seen. I want one. 😍
I didn't understand the scale of it until the shot of her entering the front door o.O
Totally changed my sense of scale!!!
Good grief, she’s a talker!😳 Nice home though…
