At that price point I'd expect it to be incendiary or A/P. The big box store a mile from me which is infamous for overcharging is having a sale on all ammo now. PMC .50 cal is 10 for $40. SGAmmo sells 150 count packs for $418 which is $2.75 a pop. That's dirt cheap considering our post-Covid prices are still wonky.
I have an Antique .32 caliber pen. It writes and is a one shot item. Looks good in your pocket. It was made in the late 30's. It was carried by my Grandfather.

This is one of those weapons that falls into the category of "functionally ineffective yet I would NOT like to be shot with it". Pretty sure you could reliably hurt someone with that, but there isnt much point of having a one-shot-stop weapon that isnt powerful enough to stop anything.
In my 5 years as a Gov. Contractor in Afghanistan, I came across a stash of old pen guns that were made in the Legendary Darra, Pakistan.. Much more sleeker than the one you show. .25 caliber. They work great!

I purchased the 'Braverman' branded Stinger many years ago. Still have it. The one thing you did not mention was how painful the thin, sharp-edged trigger is on the trigger finger.

Those pen pistols showed up at one of my favorite gun stores back around 1985 or so. They came chambered in .22LR or .25 ACP, and sold for around $100. I couldn't think of a good reason to buy one, so I didn't. Couple days ago, I saw one offered for sale online for just north of $4,000. Gotta jump into the old time machine, go back, and buy about 10 of them! Surprisingly accurate point-and-shooter. Cheers.

Well, in many countries this would require permit as any other firearms since this thing is actually lethal. .22lr is a joke of a round in terms of its penetration capabilities or stopping power, but this thing can still penetrate clothing and cause lethal damage if it hits well.

I think missed a trick with this gun when making it bend to form a grip. They would have been better keeping it straight and having a pull and release trigger on it. May have freed up around another 2 inches of barrel length without changing the dimensions of the gun. Surely that would add more power.

Being able to hide it in a desk without anyone really knowing what it is could be handy. I suppose it could be useful as a weapon of last resort. Like you are trapped and an attacker is approaching where you are hiding. They look around the corner and you take your shot. You better hope you hit the target with your one shot and push their off button because after that you are pretty hosed.
Back in the late 70's I had a pen gun that looked similar to that it fired tear gas . It had tubes that screwed on the end. It did not bend. Not sure what happened to it.
I remember those. They had a cocking knob on the side that you pulled back and locked like an MP5. I *think* you could technically load a .22 round into it but it wasn't designed for it and there pretty much wasn't a barrel at all. I'm sure it would hurt and could deter somebody as a last ditch defense but you also couldn't reasonably call it non lethal. If you had pressed it right against somebody and fired it then it absolutely could have been lethal but at that point you are better off with a knife or you know, an actual gun.

From the fiddliness of the grip and recoil, I'm going to guess that this should be thought of as more a novelty item, rather than a 'last-resort piece'? In the stress and struggle of a life or death situation, I can see someone fumbling this too much to use it accurately... I donno, the hollow point went pretty far into the ballistic gel. Aimed at the head or heart region at point blank, I reckon it would be lethal.

Ye I managed to get a 22lr one from Germany through customs in the UK they must have just thought it was a normal pen so it never flagged up

Perhaps the heavier bullet (the round nose) had less penetration due to the super short barrel, where the lighter bullet was able to get more velocity

Being able to hide it in a desk without anyone really knowing what it is could be handy. I suppose it could be useful as a weapon of last resort. Like you are trapped and an attacker is approaching where you are hiding. They look around the corner and you take your shot. You better hope you hit the target with your one shot and push their off button because after that you are pretty hosed.

Back in the late 70's I had a pen gun that looked similar to that it fired tear gas . It had tubes that screwed on the end. It did not bend. Not sure what happened to it.
I remember those. They had a cocking knob on the side that you pulled back and locked like an MP5. I *think* you could technically load a .22 round into it but it wasn't designed for it and there pretty much wasn't a barrel at all. I'm sure it would hurt and could deter somebody as a last ditch defense but you also couldn't reasonably call it non lethal. If you had pressed it right against somebody and fired it then it absolutely could have been lethal but at that point you are better off with a knife or you know, an actual gun.
Like those flare guns in the Vietnam pilot survival kits

@@backachershomestead I got one given to me in UK. destroyed it after i was advised i'd definately get 5 years just for having it. it was in my tool kit as it worked a certain small valve really well.

My grandfather had a pen gun many years ago. Don’t know whatever happened to it. He had .22 tear gas cartridges as well as .22 rimfire.
Don’t know if Scott will see this so many days after the video release but I just discovered the Springfield 1911-A2 SASS and I would love to see him shoot one on the channel
From the fiddliness of the grip and recoil, I'm going to guess that this should be thought of as more a novelty item, rather than a 'last-resort piece'? In the stress and struggle of a life or death situation, I can see someone fumbling this too much to use it accurately... But, still a fun item to own, for sure 👍👍👍👍
