Stopped by the Game Warden

- On opening day of trout season, I went out fishing on one of the local bodies of water that had been stocked. We had a pretty solid day of fishing, catching 10 between my brother and I, but when I went to take my fish up to the car at the end of the day, I had an encounter with a game warden. This video shows just about the entire encounter that I had with the game warden. The only parts that are edited out of the video are done so to protect my personal information.
When I got stopped by the game warden, he was very professional in how he handled the entire situation. He did a great job at explaining what I had done wrong, and I fully understand why he gave me the warnings, as i was in the wrong. I learned from this encounter with the game warden and will be sure to be more prepared going in to future fishing sessions.

Just like a social security card or cards of importance, they should be on hand when needed. (It is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.)
ehh, maybe don't carry your social. If you ever physically need it, most places tell you beforehand. It's just the hardest card to get back for most people. Unless you have clearances or something, getting your social back can be one of the worst experiences in bureaucracy.

Not a bad experience, just doing his job HOWEVER, instead of checking on two respectful, courteous well mannered young men (low hanging fruit), I wish they could focus on the guys that illegally park, litter and leave piles of poop near the boat ramps (the fat guys with tattoo's & beards, vaping, with kayaks). I've been checked by the Game Wardens in Maryland a few times, they were always extremely fast & courteous. You handled yourselves great, perfect gentlemen.
Thanks brother! Yeah there’s definitely some locations that I wish they would patrol more because of those kind of people that do illegal stuff and trash places. I don’t mind getting my license and stuff checked more often and at more places if it keeps the bad apples out of our ponds and rivers.

i have had this happen a few times. the one guy was rude as all can be and the other was decent. you handled it very well. Fish on sir ....
The minute you treat the Warden like a human, they become super easy to deal with. The fact he was cool with you fishing after your limit is SOLID. Well done brother and TIGHT LINES!
Not wanting to give up your 4th Amendment without P/C or RAS of a crime is Not being disrespectful.
Treat all law enforcement officials the same way. If asked for a document, be able to provide it and then move on.

Not my experience. All LEO's have a tyrannical ego/ attitude. He couldnt believe the kid had is license, even though the kid KNEW he had it, hence the multiple attemps on his phone. They arent worth their wage for a "warning". Ridiculous. Fun fact: I boat/fish in a dozen states on the east coast. NONE of these places have cell service.

I also had a cousin we went waterfowl hunting and the guy forgot his plug for his shotgun, his dad was there also, he got a fine but lucky the gun wasnt taken away along with the car and all his gear, just a citation, its a learning lesson, we all make the mistake

Cops messing with people that really have no need to be messed with.
As a retired on the water rescue service. That whistle is a life saver. Over and over again. As far as poachers our lakes have license laws because we already have to pay to have the lakes stocked with fish yearly. Without these laws being enforced alot of people wouldn't be able to catch any fish due to criminals and people who reject the laws that were created because of their actions

It's very sad to me that the young kids fishing are pulled over and checked like a DUI spot ck just for fishing .Now all the kid information is in the database . That officer made the kid feel like he was doing something wrong ,Then gives the kid a break ,like don't let me catch you next time . Matt's a ok kid my books .
What's sad is the majority of people are just order followers. Our rights are eroding because we have collectively allowed ourselves to be conditioned to whatever we're told by some "authority" out of fear. I don't blame the kid as he isn't old enough to realize. And for his brother to volunteer to be checked for his "papers" is ridiculous. We'll be living in China before we know it.
His information is in the database when he purchased the license. In addition at the end of the video the kid viewed the encounter as a positive one.

The warden was nice but he was really going above and beyond to make sure a 16 year old has all the right things to be fishing. No way he individually asked the 20 other people down there fishing individually. This warden definitely told the teacher she forgot to collect the homework in school
Why write the warning he already confirmed he has a license
If he doesn't write something, he can't prove that he's doing anything. Hell, the game warden probably doesn't even realize that his primary job is to enter as much info as possible into the database to provide for future tracking. If more people understood that we are still in the beginning phase of totalitarianism they wouldn't be as compliant...or maybe they still would.

Well done dealing with DNR! Just some advice: if Delaware offers a hard card physical version of the license, consider geting that AND store a photo on your phone’s local storage. That way, no service, phone dead, no matter what as long as you have your wallet with that hard card you can avoid that warning. TIGHT LINES!!!

In Kalifornia , once you limit out , you have to stop fishing for the day .
Also...as much as they cost , our fishing licenses should have our photo , since you have to have your driver license to prove your ID . stupid... WHY do you need a WHISTLE ???
I lived KKKali, you always keep one shy of the limit, and start thowing the rest back. It cost so much to fish there, I'm not going to limit out in 30 minutes, and just go for a boat ride.

Those guys are usually just doing their job :) i keep a laminated copy of every fishing license from every state i fish in the tackle box kit to cover it all, which makes it easy bro. Glad to see he was a cool officer, you guys deserve it being nice guys and all
We’ve always kept the physical copy with us, but this year we decided to go digital since they started allowing digital copies. Back to paper copies we go I guess 😂 nothing but respect for the officer, we appreciate them keeping us safe out there 👍

If you had a screenshot you don't need service. Take a photograph of your fishing license, your driver's license, your registration for your car, and your insurance card and put it in some type of secure folder in your phone so you can pull it up anytime you're asked even if you don't have service. Then if it's in a secure folder on your phone if someone gets your phone they still can't open that secure folder it has a secondary password to it

"Enforcement officers" of any type only speak to you to gather information for their investigation. Unless there's clear and present danger to life they can piss off. Most don't even know the laws they "pretend" to defend. Some good ones but few and far between "just doing their job"

Some of these rules and regulations on hunting made me quit it. Cant go hunting or fishing anywhere without constantly getting harrased because a neighbor or animal lover wants to ruin the day by making false reports. I definantly get a limit on game. But some things are complete b.s rules

The issue is *possession* . License is prima facie evidence you have A) complied with the law on the "right" to fish, but having that evidence conspicuously or in your wallet i.e., in your possession to show proof is the B) part here. How about take a picture of your license and any applicable stamps report cards what not, and place the paperwork in your wallet, tackle box etc. this way you are twice as protected.

I would much rather game wardens be there 24-7 the officer was very kind and very informational to help them to be best prepared. The real issue is when the wardens aren't there because it's PROVEN people will fish without licenses, take more than 10 fish as well as cause problems with others.

So unconstitutional that game wardens are permitted to stop and demand licensure without cause to believe someone is not following the laws. If police can't pull us over to ask for our drivers license; game wardens shouldn't be harassing innocent fishermen.

@@woodsrdr Generally most places will require you to quit fishing (especially for trout) once the daily limit has been reduced to possession. For instance, if the limit is five, you could catch four and fish all you want until you decide to keep the 5th. I like it this way MUCH better. But I see the other point as well. What if you reach your limit, then gut hook the next one???
we may be allowed to have an electronic copy but never rely on tech to work when you need it so I recommend even having a paper copy in a ziplock bag in your wallet when fishing.
