Thanks for this post. I grew up fishing in the Indian and Banana Rivers, and did quite a bit of bridge fishing and shrimping and crabbing. It was a great childhood. I passed on my addiction to fishing to my son, who fishes everywhere he travels. I’m an old man now and can’t fish like I once could, so I really enjoyed watching you bring up (and not) monster fish. Good luck and keep fishing!
Hey Captain come back I grew up on Jamaica drive in Cocoa Beach right on the banana river. Fished all over there when it was great fishing. My grandfather was born on a houseboat near Malabar on the Indian River. I'm from the class of 1979. How about you?
First of all, well done! That was some excellent fishing and I commend you. I wish more people would just mind their own business and leave others that aren't even bothering them alone. Refreshing to see professionalism win out.
I had an incident at a public lake in my area (keep in mind this lake is well known for catching massive walleye, crappie, bass, and catfish) so it’s no secret that you can fish there. A Karen came up to me and told me I couldn’t fish in the lake so of course I was dumbfounded by her stupidity and let her know about it too. So we argued back and forth for maybe two minutes and then she called the police and the game wardens on me because I called her a piss rocket 😂.
"Piss rocket" is a new one on me and quite a magnificent compliment too. Probably a compliment in her case. In your defence, you could just say you were taking the piss. 😉
In FL sportsman a guy was fishing from his boat for Goliath grouper next to the bridge that go out to Sanibel island. The FWC shows up because someone across the bridge called in to say he was pulling baby manatees onto the deck of his boat. I'm surprised they didn't say he had caught a mermaid. 😄
You know manatees are believed to be where the whole idealogy of mermaids originally came from. I know he wasn't catching manatee, but it's ironic you say that lol
The whole point of the no fishing signs is to address any boat traffic. They don't want fishing lines interrupting vessel travel, so they make a swath either side of center to exclude fishing.
It appeared that he followed all fishing rules. The man is knowledgeable and knows rules and where to fish. Nice catch. Keep sharing your awesome video, sir. And thank you for your service to the community.

Best Game Warden story. A friend of mine lives near the river. a wild goat wandered into his pen one day. He taped a strong light between the horns. that night he hog tied the goat out in an open field, with a small rope he could pull to release it. He asked a friend to report someone "spotting" deer at night to the game warden. When the warden arrived and started walking into the field once he saw the light, he pulled the rope and released the goat. The Warden chased that goat all night.
So a certain lake is full of Smelt but it's illegal to net them in the lake or the creek that pours into it. There is a big Walleye tourney there every year and guys try to drive up with live Smelt but they don't travel well. So rumor has it a couple of local boys stood at the mouth of the creek full of Smelt the night before the tourney. Rumor has it one of them called the game warden and said someone was shining deer in a field 20 miles south of the Wardens house that was ironically right on the creek full of Smelt. Well rumor says the two watched "Bill" tear out of his driveway headed south. Rumor has it one throw of the cast net blacked out the live well and the locals had all they needed to slow troll livebaits all day!! Rumor has it the two locals smashed the field in a 16ft aluminum with a 20hp outboard Rumor has it they drank alot that night!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Now I dont know the area, but you casted and were fishing between the signs that say "No Fishing between signs". Whats the reason you arent supposed to fish there?
@@jackspinner4727 Ive only had it once, not a common catch in my area. I remember it being very good. On par with other shellfish eating fish like tautog.
I live on the Texas Gulf Coast and we have an amazing population of Black Drum. Sadly, on both coasts the big ones are full of worms, so everyone throws back the big ones who go on to even further over populate our waters. But 100% fun as hell to catch. I love to fish for Speckled Trout and Flounder with what is essentially a very sensitive bass rod, and a small, but powerful reel. Sometimes it's aggravating as hell when you are targeting flounder or specs and you keep catching one Bull Black Drum after another, but still fun to reel in! You learn a lot about horsing in a big fish on light tackle. I know I'll never catch a world record bass, but if I do ever exceed that 22 lb mark, I know I have more than enough experience reeling in fish twice that weight!
I got the game warden called on me once while just relaxing by a lake I wasn't even fishing, I had just finished a hike and was resting my legs before I drove home. people are weird but I think you are right about who called.
Seriously? Understand that the force of the drop pushes water across the gills like swimming does to help the fish regain itself... It's an animal and isn't being harmed! People who say stuff like tou have, and then commit far worse acts on actual humans like your own family... do you even understand the word hypocrite?
Not sure if the have been any survivability studies about these fish but the fish and wildlife folks drop fish from helicopters to stock remote lakes here out west. They have an acceptable survival rate but they're small fish being dropped with a tons of water to help break the surface for them. The consensus of the armchair quarterbacks seems to be that the larger the fish and the greater the height, the more harm it does.
I’m a retired Ff. also, 30 in, 25 out. I have no interest in fishing but I watched your video and admired the enthusiasm you display for your hobby, not to mention, the super effort it takes. If that were me, the Game Warden would probably find me lying on the bridge tangled up in two fishing lines and the rope for the net.

@@malcolmt7883 Right. but they are smaller fish with less terminal velocity. You'd just have to figure the height of the bridge and weight of the fish to see if it's a safe terminal velocity. There's a lot of studies on this.

Idea for the net. How about at the start of the day tie a loop in the net line so it’s at the right length to reach the water and then use a carabiner to attach the line to the rail.
Just thought the same so he does not have to heave it over the edge everytime, saves some energy, only thing is if your knot gets untied you can loose the net if you aint quick enough.
So he wasn't just on video illegally fishing in an area that clearly states "No fishing between the signs"? He was sight fishing between said signs and had to climb over the railing to get his line back to the legal side! Real fucking honest hahahahaha
I’ve been fishing for over 40 years and have only had to show my license twice. Honestly, I’d have been happy to see them just to show my licenses for a third time.😂
I know almost nothing about fishing but I so enjoyed watching this! I found some spiritual parallels with how hard you had to work to get the biggest fishes out of the water and also the quality bait you were using your good equipment, persistence and even your faith because you invested the money and had a big net prepared! Hoo Eee! If that ain't a message right there!
The FWC guys usually are pretty professional, at least in my experience. I really like seeing 'em. Way more than half of them are sportsmen too, and they're just out there making sure things are on the up and up. Too bad some people make them run around where they're not really needed.
Probably WAY more than half. I'd be surprised if it wasn't 100%. It's why they get into that specialty, to protect the rights of sportsmen and to protect the environment they love, while ensuring others can enjoy it too. Like most traffic cops are car guys.

Kudos to your efforts! Netting a large fish by yourself is challenging. I've been in the same position fishing for Batrays off of SoCal piers. It's pretty exciting and a good accomplishment. Only thing I did different was keep the fish in the net, take pictures, then lower back into water. Reduces the "stun" from falling . Great video.

Black drums much over about 15 inches are always full of worms. No one keeps them. Fun as hell to catch though! Earlier this spring me and my oldest son probably caught six or eight 30 inch plus Black Drum each in only 3 or 4 hours.
I was surprised that the game wardens didn't write you up for fishing between the signs. That's a big challenge getting a big fish into a net like that. Shows you have had a lot of practice. It was fun watching
He wasn’t fishing between the signs. if you look closely he was off to either side. It’s the boat channel you’re not allowed to fish in…….. for obvious reasons
I've commercially and recreationally fished my entire young and adult life. I know the rules and follow the rules and never have to worry about an encounter with law enforcement. After a while they don't even bother checking you, they just cruise by and give you a wave. Nice feeling not to be paranoid. :)
But as with any type of LEO they can find some sort of infraction if they want to because that is why the laws are written so vague. We see it more and more each day because we are now entering the beginning of Anarcho Tyranny and it is only going to get worse. MUCH worse. Thank God the Department of Wildlife in most states are structured and run different but that can soon change in the blink of an eye and probably will
Great video my friend. Unfortunate crowd interaction but the Lord creates them and we find them. Just a suggestion..use the net to release those big ones. If you can haul them up .. A 30 ft "belly whacker" wouldn't make me feel all that great. Cheers.
Thanks. That is actually about 15 feet and they all hit nose first. Safer to do that than try to get a 50lb fish over that ledge in the ring solo and risk belly flopping because they fall out. 2 people there I would definitely lower them in the net. But they all swam off off healthy.

Great vid , but take care of the fish dropping big fish from that height can kill or cause internal injuries, best wishes from England 🏴 tight lines.
Agree, the heavy weight of the fish dropped from that height is almost certain to result in death, not immediately but damage to some organs would probably result in death within hours. Large fish should never be dropped back into the water even from just a few feet high. When the fish is in the water its bouyancy means there is no weight pressure on its organs. As soon as it is out of the water its organs are compressed. The heavier the fish the more of a problem it becomes.
@@CooperJones777 Julian is correct. They drop stockers (5-7 inches) from planes because they have low terminal velocity. Bigger, heavier fish have exponentially higher term. velo. There's been a lot of studies on this. You'd just have to calculate the height of the bridge and the weight of the fish to figure if it's safe. Barotrauma, Hyperflection, and sudden deceleration can cause injuries in fish if dropped from a high height. These are symptoms that do not present themselves right away, taking hours or even days. As fisherman, we all have to release our fish with as close to a 100% certain survival rate as we can. Even 80%, you're killing 2 out every 10 fish you catch.
Suggestion: Show each fish being held by you from a fisherman's point of view. I never really saw the size of the big one before you released it. Great video, though. Definitely watched to the end--very interesting.
Great tour. Thanks for sharing. I’ve wanted to see the Compton section of the river for a while. On part of your journey you captured part of our property which was so neat to see.
It took me a minute... I finally figured there is a "BOAT LANE" in the middle of the river on the bridge and you were fishing on either side. It was a little confusing. I could see where a motorist could think you were fishing illegally. I didn't know they had boat lanes like that. Good luck.
@@Bardmusic66Before that even on the other side of the bridge he was clearly casting out between the signs from the "legal" side of the sign into the illegal area of water. This guy providing video evidence of himself fishing between the signs multiple times. At the start of the video, because I've never fished from a bridge. My brain was so hung up on only one way of thinking. I thought to myself. I remember I used to live in a community, with private ponds and we had an HOA. I used to fish the ponds in our community, and we had signs posted "Private Property - No Fishing". I had some lady pull up in her car, who I presume also lived in the community tell me "Can't you read?! No Fishing!"... and I responded back "Can't you comprehend?! Private property - I live here. Do you?!". She looked confused and just drove off.

@TheLawlessTide I think what they're saying is when you cast the bait, it was between the signs even though you were to the left of the sign. A lot of fishermen from other states are pretty lucky because here in Minnesota we can only have 1 fishing line in the water at a time except during ice fishing season we can have up to 2 lines Unless it's on a designated trout lake then we can only have 1 in the winter.
@@RebelBramblett-cj7vp its even more complicated than that here, each lake and river system has its own rules about what tackle is legal and how many lines you can use
Junkies don’t have money. All forms of police have one job and that’s to create revenue for the state. They don’t worry about junkies because junkies can’t pay fines.
I was going to say what the other comment did. There's no money in trying to fine a junkie, even less if you spend money to arrest them. The primary job of law enforcement in America is not public safety. The primary job of law enforcement is revenue generation. Some municipalities earn 30% (the legal maximum allowed by state law in Texas) from the police. The fact that it's so bad that laws had to be passed limiting the amount of revenue police can generate is telling.

The whole point of the no fishing signs is to address any boat traffic. They don't want fishing lines interrupting vessel travel, so they make a swath either side of center to exclude fishing.
I can't help but feel that casting from outside the boating lane INTO the boating lane is a problem of arguable illegality.

@@JulianSafariLife You talk alot but you don't say much that's true.

@TheLawlessTide I think what they're saying is when you cast the bait, it was between the signs even though you were to the left of the sign. It looked intentional, it had nothing to do with where the fish swam during the fight. With that being said, I am jealous as I sit at work on my lunch breaking, watching you slay.😅
@@Robert.Youngblood to be honest i saw that giant on top and i didn't pay any attention to where i was. I guess this video is getting broken down frame by frame, lol.
@@TheLawlessTide I only noticed it because i was curious why they even have those no fishing between signs. I think i saw in the video a blue and red thing on the bridge, maybe it wasn't blue or red LOL but there seemed to be some sort of terminal attached to the bridge between there, is there electricity exposed on the side of the bridge? Or is that just where boats pass through below the bridge?
A bit off topic to the fishing video at hand at it was quite the video, i would never have thought to fish like that lol
@@TheLawlessTide no doubt you knew, you just didnt care.
A lot of fishermen from other states are pretty lucky because here in Minnesota we can only have 1 fishing line in the water at a time except during ice fishing season we can have up to 2 lines Unless it's on a designated trout lake then we can only have 1 in the winter.
I didn't realize there were so many rules for fishing these days. 😮
Same in my state except its also illegal to fish from any highway bridge
@@RebelBramblett-cj7vp its even more complicated than that here, each lake and river system has its own rules about what tackle is legal and how many lines you can use
If you were sitting there sticking needles in your arms they wouldn't even bother, things are really messed up in this country.
@Texas240 Listen ,I realize the revenue thing ,ok , I tried to say that with my statement in fewer words ......but I think a couple people missed my point .
@@lokirussell5891 you just be a woman. Only a woman would beat around the bush about what their saying just to say that’s what they were saying. So I guess use your words better.
First time here…I don’t know what is going on but your joy and enthusiasm is wholesome ❤
Thank you, i try to gave a good time
But you were fishing between the signs on that last 1
No he was on the other side of the bridge next to the signs, first he was on the north side and then he was on the south side, still next to the "Signs" you cant fish between, I guess he cant have lines hanging there because of boats that pass underneath. you can clearly see both signs in each side.
