Welcome to another Paint with Me video. Today’s video features a quick painting I did of wilted roses 🌹 in a loose watercolor style . To achieve this loose style of painting, I use the wet-on-wet technique.
I'll also be trying out a new watercolor paper for today’s painting. I’m pretty attached to using my Fabriano Artistico 100% Cotton Cold Press Paper (in Extra White) for a lot of my work, but I am starting to run out.
I’ve always been curious about other brands of watercolor paper, so I will slowly be trying them out and comparing them to the Fabriano Artistico one that I typically use. Maybe a fun future video idea is comparing the different 100% cotton cold press watercolor paper options out there.
Some initial impressions of the New York Central 100% Cotton Cold Press Watercolor Paper:
It’s billed as being “bright white”, but I would say it’s not a true white and has a very slight yellowish/ivory tint to the paper.
It’s not as smooth as the Fabriano Artistico 100% Cotton Cold Press Paper. I think the rougher texture will actually be nice for landscape painting or urban sketching.
The grain pattern is more prominent in comparison to the Fabriano Artistico paper-just something to note if you are someone who prefers a more subtle grain pattern to their watercolor paper.
The colors do not dry as vibrantly as the Fabriano Artistico Paper. If you like to paint vibrant florals, this may not be the paper for that.
These are just my preliminary thoughts on this paper and and as I use it more, I will report my findings. 🤔
