I want to thank you for opening up a whole new world for me, I love watching you paint and I'm a year into my journey with watercolor and I never knew I had this gift, I've recently sold my first painting and I owe it to you. My husband doesn't even get mad when I spend the money on professional supplies and I'm 3k into it and never one word from him, anyway thank you for your videos and helping me believe in myself, which I couldn't do before ❤
I love everything you have shown us! It’s all new to me and now I will have to try to do it! Thanks for now and I will keep watching!💚👩🎨🌻🎉🥰
I love this!! The "blur" of colors! ...and the way you wet the paper front, back and tilted it. I never thought of doing that. I've been trying to do more " blured scenery paintings. Thanks!
You are so welcome!
Love Paynes grey!!!
After watching you have "fun", I'm going to dig out my paints, brushes, and easel
and paint again! Thanks for your encouragement!!
Thanks for being so positive and encouraging.
Love this - will be trying it!
Have fun!
The metal tip of a mechanical pencil works great for grass. Love your Queen Anne's lace technique.
I saw someone use the corner of the paint tube to scrape! It works! Beautiful painting 🥰
I love using this wet technique. Such a fun trick!
I don’t use my heat tool when I do this because the paper ends up folding up and warping, so definitely agree with letting it dry on its own 🤩
Lovely painting. I love the out of focus effect of the distant trees and the acrylic ink flowers. Gorgeous!
I love your encouragement for all levels.
Thank you for all of your hard work and for posting so frequently.
My pleasure!
Love this soft foggy looking technique! Can’t wait to try the sprat and stick (lol) tip for wet on wet. Thanks, Ellen!
Hope you like it!
You make it look so easy. Very pretty. I really like the idea of wetting the back to keep the paper flat.
Love this! Learning so much from you. New to WC, I really appreciate your naming the colors you are mixing together. Fascinating !
This really is an amazing technique. I just found out about it a few weeks ago. You can make that paper super wet, then roll off the excess with a rolled up clean white cloth and literally have a wet page for an hour. Beautiful, Ellen!
Thank you! I just got my brusho set, so I was playing around after I watched this video. And when it created its own kind of beach scene, I remembered you and got my stick to make grass! It totally fleshed it out. (Now I'm going to go back to watch some beach tutorials, so I can add texture? surf? to the water.) I appreciate you so much. You have been such an inspiration and influence since I started painting!
Funny that I just tried this yesterday! Really does work well, especially here in super dry Colorado! For me there’s two points to learn. First I am not always a fan of the blooms, except for certain situations so I had to figure out how long to wait to paint. Of course you are right about thicker paint no bleeding as much. Second, a lot of paintings have a point where they need to dry completely before continuing. Then, what to do with your dry painting? I rewet it, both front and back, but not as much. That seemed to work pretty well. It does provide the perfect surface to create credit card rocks! Clouds worked great, and I could even adjust them a bit with the second wetting! Then just patience while it dries to the right amount! Thank you! You are right, it’s fun!💕
Putting the dark below the wild flowers really made them pop. I have several that I’ve done in the past that just looked flat, this is a game changer. I’m also going to try wetting the back of the paper to make it stay flat.
.😊😊😊😊😊
I love your teaching style! It feels as though I’m spending time with a friend. 😊 You’re unguarded, remarks and thoughtful conversation are unique and very helpful! Thank you!
I wholeheartedly agree! She’s a peach!
Your a great teacher love your voice to, thank you
As always, inspirational!
Awesome. Thank you . You make me brave to “relax and play with the paint “
I really appreciate the way you teach. We learn the techniques but you are always encouraging us to use our imagine and to experiment with colors and ideas.
Inspiring; just what I needed to test out my new WC brushes!?🥰🤩👍🏾🙏🏾
I like the burnt sienna and could picture letting a small swath of it move loosely down the right side of the painting. I kept seeing Voldemort's face in the blue blobs at the top - I'm glad you saw them and covered it up!
lol thats funny!
LOVE this. Love the technique, love your commentary, love the playfulness, love the confidence you instill. Thanks, Ellen! You are one of very best teachers out there.😊
Thank you so much!
@@ellencrimitrentthank you so much im 82 years young just started painting oh im from South Africa keep well
Awesome teacher. Love your technique.
I really like this one. Can't wait to give it a go so it's up to my art room to get started!
Always love the paintings you do and your instructions are excellent. Thank you!
I enjoyed it a lot, thank you. I am glad i have found your tutorials.
Me encantó en cuanto lo vi. Gracias, Ellen; pronto lo voy a intentar. Un cordial saludo desde el NW de México 🌵🌼
Thank you Ellen
I made it ! And it is amazingly beautiful
Ellen, you are so talented with the colours! Loved this one!
awe thanks
I might have to give this a try, during our extreme heatwave weather in the summertime. Thanks for sharing this wonderful informational video.
I use an old glass cutting board and flip it to the smooth side. I’m using this technique often for my beach scenes. The results are always great. Thanks dear Ellen. Blessings to you and everyone!
@@NewEarthBlog That’s great Rosalie! Let me know how it works for you.
That is a great idea! Thanks for sharing
@@RainbowObsidian777 You’re welcome! Let me know how it works for you.
@@rmuller366 It actually works well because it is a hard surface with a "gloss" or smooth finish to it so it works like a suction cup lol I remembered after seeing your suggestion too that I used glass to "stick" some photos to as well when i was doing a project. it worked well for those too. thanks again :) Happy Painting!
Thanks for the ideas! You have a soothing voice too!
I love not just watching your process but listening to it too
Wowza! That is just gorgeous..lovvve it
Lovely painting Ellen, I love the colours, and you are really inspirational and fun. Thank you for a great tutorial 😁 Best wishes from the UK.
My pleasure 😊
I love your carefree approach :D
I can’t wait to try this!
Great video, love the extra idea of you doing wet on wet with a wet back too. Great idea, never heard of it until today! Excited to try out.
Thanks so much for this very helpful tutorial, Ellen! I love this beautiful painting and will be practicing it over and over.
This is such a great lesson in wet on wet. I am a real newbie and you have truly inspired me with your "play" and "make it your own" approach. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Thank you so much!!
Oh so pretty!!
Burnt Sienna is one of my favorite colors. It shows up in most of my paintings - either on its own or mixed in with another color. Mix it with Ultramarine Blue and you get a rich grey/black.
Brilliant! Love it! Thank you! I am so happy when you tell us to play! So much better than being anxious! Love this technique. Many thanks!
Thank you! You’re my favorite; so inspirational and fun with no pretense. After watching your vids I always feel I can do what you demonstrate. ❤️
Thank you so much for sharing gouache technics, i love the medium sometimes its hard to put something on paper. Gouache is very forgiving love it✨️💕
Hi Ellen. Thank you for sharing this with us and showing us your tips. I am a beginner painter and have used this technique in the past, not knowing it was really a "technique" lol so that's cool to find out now. It does work very well. I have not painted in a couple of yrs and feeling more inspired after seeing a few of your videos, so thank you for that and i really enjoyed your painting as well.
Blessings and have a wonderful week.
Thank you! I need this free-style technique!
That was really fun, thank you. I found the best thing for making skinny grasses. My daughters gave me a plant for my birthday. The card holder has a very sharp point where it goes into the plant. the sharp end works fantastic.
I loved this video! I especially liked seeing how you organize and mix your colors. Many artists do that "off-camera" and watching you I see how the colors are created and why they harmonize so well. I found this really useful!
Wonderful, inspirational, thank you very much for this video, I feel encouraged and ready to begin afresh
Love this and so many different ways/techniques to achieve it...👍❤️
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing.
This turned out so pretty! I can't wait to try it!
Thanks for a great demo! I had so much fun with this! Helping me understand how to take advantage of what my paints can do.
I love the way your painting looks like there is water between the background and foreground. So beautiful!
This is the first painting I've attempted that's made me think I can actually do this! Enjoyed this so much!
Very pretty, a must try. Thank you.
I really enjoyed this. I painted one using your technique. Now it’s my wife’s favorite.
Absolutely LOVE THIS TECHNIQUE!!! Such a great painting. Love the colors. This I am doing next! Thank you for the tutorial!
Beautiful!!!!! Love this technique!!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
How I love this technique I will try this soon thank you.
Wonderful. You boost my confidence. You make it appear doable. You are a great teacher and i love your style. I appreciate all the effort you go to for us. Thank you so much. 💗
Acrylic clipboards work well for this wet in wet technique too. :-)
Beautiful and so inspiring! Working on keeping loose and this is perfect!
Love it Ellen. You are truly an inspiration to so many. Love wet in wet.
Girl, I could watch you paint all day!
I love it! Back in the mid 90s when I began doing watercolor classes, on the list of supplies was some kind of board. I went to Tap Plastics and got a remnant of plexiglass a few inches lager than 1/4 sheet of paper and somewhere back then I discovered that getting the paper wet and putting it on like this was wonderful! In the summer, I just lifted the paper a bit and sprayed it down and it was wonderful painting plein air on hot summer days! I think you're the first video that I remember seeing someone else do it! LOL! I love the results of your spraying and splattering - and putting that line back there! This actually reminds me of our back field at my folks' place. There was a small woods on one side and about an acre of hay. We didn't have so much Queen Anne's Lace as we did Scotch broom. I'm allergic to both! LOL! They stopped haying over the years and from what I've seen on Google maps, trees have now grown in the field.
Nice! Love this technique. Wet on wet. And thanks for the info on wetting the back so it will stick and then lay flat when it dries !
I love how every small touch you add makes this field come alive. I just started following you.
Absolutely loved this! I was surprised it stayed down the whole time on my board! I will try this again for my watercolors.
Love this painting Ellen Thank you . I have a lovely field with queen Anne's lace near me so thought I would try it out at the weekend, the farmer got there first and cut it all down!!! Harvesting in Buckinghamshire, England is a hit and miss affair so I will try out and follow your lovely painting. Thank you for all you inspiration Ellen you really have helped me to improve my work xx
Thanks for the great technique!
Thank u so much for showing this. It was a great help to me. It looks so beautiful and soft!
Ellen it is so beautiful and of a velvety texture. I love it. You make it so doable and fun for others. Thanks. ❤❤❤❤
I stay inspired by treating myself to any color I want or feel I need so that means ALL OF THEM👍🏻
That is so awesome
thank you!
Love this technique it’s my next try out! Thank you Ellen .
Thanks Ellen that was fun
So cool!
Great tip about the paper! I’ve never heard of that. I love the late summer colors, too. Thanks! I’ll give it a try.
yay!
Enjoyed this video. Love your Queen Anne's lace technique. I discovered last week a great tool for doing grass is the metal tip of a mechanical pencil. Please try it and you will
So inspired! Thank you for the great ideas.
I use my palette knife to scrape and make lines… great for rocks too❤️❤️
Love this, Ellen! Can’t wait to try. Thank you!
I am definitely painting this one! Love it.

Thank you.... I just am learning 😃
Helps me see what beauty wet on wet can create! Lovely lesson!
Thank you, Ellen! I now use this wet both sides technique and for me its a game changer. You are awesome! FYI I can go cross eyed trying to see just how you mix colors, do you have a tutorial on mixing colors?
Fantastic technique,, I definitely use this in my painting. I like the way you mixed colours, totally loose and experimental. Great video. Keep up the excellent job.
Thank you I am going to give a try and another until get something resembling your painting. 🇨🇦
Wow this is great. I am going to try this soon. I love working wet on wet. Thanks Ellen.
I really liked this one. Loose but not too loose.
