I cannot state how happy I am that the father was not charged for rushing the defendant. If you look at that case you’d understand why he did what he did. And honestly. I’m surprised they didn’t react slower so he could get a few hits in. That said, it’s good that the judge understood and excused him without punishment. He did not need the extra trouble and I cannot overstate my pleasure with the judge in their decision.

At the university where I work, the Philosophy course I lobby to have made required is called Intro to Logic - a name hopefully all freshmen can grasp. 😑
I had a good one in my courtroom once. We had the medical examiner on the stand describing the manner of death, and the victim's brother was getting really agitated - the judge had already warned them once to be quiet - and then he jumps up and attempts to rush the accused, shouting some things that should not be repeated. The sheriff was kind of expecting something to happen and she took him down HARD as soon as he reached the bar. But the poor medical examiner was a young doctor who had NEVER testified before and he was just shell shocked when I was standing in the hall with him and the prosecutor while we waited for the sheriffs to give us the all clear. I've never felt so bad for another human being in all my life as that doctor.
I really enjoy watching Atty Rivers. I'm now working my way backwards through his videos. He is very funny, with the sardonic type of humour one needs when dealing with dark subjects, but he is compassionate and insightful too.

@@MrMan-gr4er most people plead out take a plea bargain get charges dismissed etc. most court cases reach a conclusion before the typical court appearances you tend to see like here or on tv in movies etc. the legal system has a heavy caseload in some places more than others. You can wait years for your trial to conclude so many legal systems are happy to work something out where things are handled behind closed doors as opposed to a lengthy and expensive trial, and this usually applies to all parties concerned
Yeah even where reform is possible such as a young defendant for a reformable crime (not psychopathic murder or severe sex crime), it's still crucial to teach them they can't escape consequences. Even for someone very sympathetic like Gypsy Rose Blanchard whose victim was extremely unsympathetic. Because even though her crime was committed to escape horrific abuse, she was taught all her life that lying and manipulating you can get free stuff and escape consequences, and it would just set her up for failure if she faced no consequences for her actions. An important part of reform is to pay some form of penance. I don't think you can truly reform without that, and a truly reformed person who wasn't forced to face consequences imposes some form of penance on themselves.

Maybe you know more about the case, but from what's here, you can't conclude much about her parenting. I've known a family where one kid was a juvenile delinquent who flunked out of high school and the other a valedictorian who never broke the rules. Their teachers assumed they must've lived in different homes and were shocked they lived in the same house. Their parenting wasn't extreme in either direction. Sometimes it comes down to individual temperament and peer influences. One kid is more impulsive and gets in with the wrong crowd while the other has more self-control and befriends more studious peers.
