  • The Oktoberfest in Munich, or Wiesn in dialect, is the world's largest folk festival. It has been held annually on the Theresienwiese in the Bavarian capital since 1810 (with exceptions due to wars or pandemics) and is a significant economic factor for the city. It takes place from mid-September to early October.
The organizer is the Munich city administration (Department for Labor and Economy). For the Oktoberfest, the Munich breweries brew a special beer that must have an original wort content of at least 13.5 degrees Plato and contain around 5.8 to 6.4 percent alcohol by volume. In 2018, Oktoberfest generated sales of 1.2 billion euros including overnight stays. In 2023, a total of 7.2 million people visited the folk festival, which is a new all-time record.
