when i was at the tom cochrane and band concert at the pne on december 16th, 2022 and tom cochrane started singing this song, me and my mom stood up and sang along to it with some other people who stood up and were singing along to it as well.
I seen him around the time this video came out. Same band members. Lotta ppl were standing dancing n singing too. I was only 13 then

Actualy the Rascal Flatts one was made on the order of Disney back in the time the Pixar Cars1 film was in production so for now Tom Cochran's version of the song was the more popular trending version of the song long b4 Racal Flats's Disney/Pixar Cars1 Theme song version of this song came out.

I learned today that there was a version by Chris Ledoux too. I think I heard it once as a kid, but assumed it was Tom's all of these years.

Awesome concert! What's weird is seeing Jeff Jones performing bass for Tom Cochrane's performance but not for Randy Bachman's performance featuring Burton Cummings' Carpet Frogs band backing, which Jones is part of. Cummings was ill that week so it was Bachman & Carpet Frogs

He kept dropping an octave during some of the verses. My guess is that he couldn't hit those notes any more (or was a bit rusty). But the performance still sounds great. Great voice and a real live performance is always appreciated!
And he was flat on the chorus (which, in his defense, is super high). He should sing this song in a lower key.
Yes, that's to preserve his voice. It wasn't in tip top so it makes sense to drop it during some of the lines - to be fair, those notes are placed pretty high in his register. He should probably consider changing the key slightly so he can sing it more comfortably.
He's never had a powerful voice. I'm sure that's why he has so much backup singing (and frankly better voices) on the chorus. No shame, he's a rocker from way back, and a good one.
At 3:20 we can understand the the bass makes the whole song
