I've seen shows that have episodes about this couple, but they do need a full movie. Not a long one, mind you, but it needs a bit more....fleshing out.
This is by far THE BEST and most creative interpretation I've seen of the Demeter/Persephone/Hades myth, one that artfully explores the psychological archetypes of the characters, and doesn't just flippantly repeat the stereotype of Hades as the "Bad Guy"; after all, given his family dynamics and early attachment issues, he looks like a GREAT guy, one that I can relate with and have a lot in common with, and doing an important job that SOMEBODY has to do - would you rather send your great grandma off to the care of Zeus or Poseidon?...I didn't THINK so! Hades' drawing the shortest straw is grannies' gain, be grateful. They DO need their own movie, and there are a LOT of gaps in the poems about what happens to the souls who enter the black gates of the Underworld, and what influence Persephone might have on their outcomes. After all, who was it that created the Elysian Fields and set it apart from the dull gray of the mourning meadows? Whose idea was it to reward the most heroic of mortals for three lifetimes of deeds to lift humanity from the clay that Prometheus had molded them from? And what of the other gods and their machinations that might have interplayed with this work? The earliest descriptions of the Underworld don't include the bright oasis of Elysian Fields, and Hades himself, sensitive though he be, doesn't strike me as having the eye for color (except black) - no, that shows the fingerprints of a woman's touch. I can only imagine how many hours were spent deciding on paint colors and wallpaper patterns for THAT little remodeling project, and how many trips Hades made with chariot-loads of stuff to and from the Olympian home-improvement store. Ahhh, to be a Raven high in the sky above during some of the conversations between Demeter and Persephone in her absences from the Underworld - did Hades' ears burn from his mother-in-law/sister's scathing remarks, did it sometimes ruffle his tailfeathers or cause friction and chafing? Or did Mother and Maiden spend their days together laying out the rituals and ceremonies of the Eleusinian Mystery cult that would memorialize their bond and Persephone's descent to and return from the Underworld? When the partakers of the keikios entered the Netherworld, did Persephone herself lead the tour group? And what about their involvement with other gods' cults and affairs with Men, such as the Oracles of Delphi and Orpheism (and Christianity) ? How much influence did Kore have on Hades' decision when Orpheus came pleading for the release of his lost love? And what might have transpired between the couple and Aphrodite to choose the soul who would be reborn to animate Pygmalion's handiwork and answer his prayers? What is the daily work and home life of the Lord and Queen of the Underworld like, how do they work with the other "managers" and guides like Thanatos, Hypnos, Hecatè, Hermes, Charon, the Furies, Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos...? I imagine they all have very hectic schedules these days, what with the advent of mechanized warfare, man-made plagues, a spiraling mental health crisis, and other modern horrors (thanks so much Pandora, and Zeus, you vindictive A-hole), and I can only imagine they've been forced to modernize to keep up with traffic - are there self-service kiosks at the black gates now? Do the lost souls now hover around the turnstiles of Underground stations, begging for a token to take them to the next stop? Does Charon now captain the Princess Of The Styx, reborn from the iron bones of the Titanic or Lusitania or some Vietnam era troop transport "mothballed" in the Gulf of Tonkin? : "Where have all the flowers gone? HI kkiwi, Thank you so much for all of your generosity. It means the world to a tiny channel like ours. We intend to have plenty of mythologies eventually. But we will be integrating them one by one and then releasing videos about them all. Yes, Greek is more popular, but 'finishing it' would take years or even decades. And that would make it a chore, not a joy. Variety is the spice of life non? :)

This is very similar to my own interpretation of this story Demeter causing famen and hades being called the bad guy due to her wrath, meanwhile persephone was tired if being trapped and in love with hades. This is a very good interpretation you did the myth justice. You even managed to get hades raven in there. So good
The various interpretations of this narrative are fascinating. From further updates to thorough analyses of it. Your thoughts on it are much anticipated.
Its crazy how most people perceives Hades to be the villain in this story but in actuality he did as was custom at the time...he got permission from her father, his brother, Zeus to have her hand in marriage. So when he gave his blessing, Persephone was HIS property now.

This channel is spectacular! It took me but a few days to enjoy your Greek stories, and now that I’ve finished the Norse videos, I’m re-watching everything from beginning to end. Quick question: in your earlier videos, the gods’ powers and health were not contingent on human worship, nor did sacrifice provide anything other than reverence and recreation to the gods. Did something change, or are these stories inclusive of doctrines which had a different view of the gods’ nature?
Demeter is the epitome of a possessive controlling mother. Her unwillingness to let her daughter go is the exact thing that drove her away. Of course, Persephone still loves her, but she longs to live her own life. And in typical possessive parent fashion, Demeter makes it everyone else's problem and refuses to relent until she gets her way. I love how you told this tale. I love the interpretation that Hades is a proud and noble king, and Persephone is his beautiful, regal and fair Queen. They have a real genuine bond, and even Demeter cannot break that. As always, keep up the wonderful work. Yours Truly Zachariah
Demeter, in the myths, isn’t controlling. Her daughter was kidnapped and was greenlighted by Zeus as some arranged marriage. Neither Demeter nor Persephone had any say in arrangements. While Persephone was elevated to a King and has arguably the most stable relationship by Greek mythology standards, it costs her time and proximity to her mother.
@kaykay8855 There are various interpretations of the myths. Some say she was spirited away, others that she left with Hades of her own accord. Some say she was tricked, and others she ate them voluntarily. The only constant was Demeter's punishing the world.
@@zachariahmousa7652I wouldn’t say punishing. The myth, the earliest version of it, reflects a common/well known fact in the Greek world, mothers and daughters had little to no say in who they married. The earliest version of the myth, Hades kidnapped Persephone with permission from Zeus mainly because he knew that Demeter would refuse, so he authorized her kidnapping. Demeter’s grief isn’t her punishing the world it’s her mainly feeling powerless that she couldn’t protect her daughter. Despite later reimagining, Persephone and Hades’s story isn’t a love story, it’s a kidnapping, their story in the mythos is called the ‘Rape of Persephone’. Neither Persephone and Demeter has much agency, Persephone wasn’t allowed to leave until the worried of a barren world threatened the Gods.
@kaykay8855 The word rape (harpage in Greek) in the context of ancient Greek meant the abduction or eloping of women for marriage purposes without their guardian's consent. This is where the father giving away the bride came from. He is entrusting the life and safety of his daughter to the care of another man. Persephone may or may not have had a say in it, but it is true Demeter did not. The other thing to consider is that even in the original myths, Hades and Persphone did love each other, and Hades was always faithful to her. One of the difficulties in understanding these myths is looking at them with their original social, cultural, and linguistic factors taken into consideration and leaving out modern-day vocabulary and moral standards.
Another successful narrative!!!! You never cease to amaze me!!! I’m always ecstatic when I see another new Greek tale has arrived. Thank you so much for these amazing stories…..it is a wonderful treat for me. I still listen again the previous wonderful stories. I never tire of them. ❤❤❤
A slight variation on my favorite take on this tale. I love the depiction of Demeter as a possessive mother, keeping her daughter isolated to be hers and hers alone.
@@ladybugmoenning2559 I'm sure she sees it as the former, but in this marvelous take on the tale, it's clearly the latter. She saw the girl as her possession.

In some traditions all of the flowers of the underworld come from Persephone, peior tales actually tell of the lifelessness of the the Underworld, but once mentioned as queen the underworld became flushed with flowers that shine like jewels. Demeter was known for her beauty, once her flower taken her form aged until her return. The young goddesses, Thelxiepeia and Parthenope were given wings to become her Harpies, but were Sirens before they changed. Goddesses of water and song, but the Harpies serve as messengers and delivery of one's personal aspect, slaves of another's will. At time harbingers of the divine, the mighty of which was said to be Nike, but that honor belongs to Iris. These Sirens of Demeter are not the only Sirens, but some of the few with wings or such a role.
Good work. you have a beautiful voice. I liked how you portrayed the devouring mother. And using a flower as the call to adventure. It was fun thank you.
As ever and always I love your take on these stories. Honestly I'm not sure other than Dresden files of any take on the story of Persephone that has portrayed Hades as anything other than a kidnapper and Demiter's cagingg of her daughter til that point Just. A fitting tale for the coming spring.

When I was a kid like you always saw the personification of Hades to be kind of a Satan character but getting older and realizing that all of those early stories where it was like Zeus and Hera having this perfect relationship was actually not really accurate but then you look at the Hades and Persephone and you can look at it in one way with like this story where Persephone had a mind and intelligence and was able to make decisions for herself in Hades was you know trying to woo a woman by asking his brother for help there's only ever been two people that Hades ever like did anything really bad dude and those guys were trying to come steal his wife . I said it before and I'll say it again when my children are old enough that I want to introduce them to the Greek mythologies these stories living mythology is the way I'm going to do it
I am so happy you liked our version of the story - as you said - it's not hera and Zeus that have a good relationship, in the myths its Persephone and Hades that don't cheat on each other. I have long awaited the telling of this Tale by you two, and i am so glad it has funally arrived....
I hope it met or exceeded expectations !

@@livingmythology1405 while at first I waited Her to speak, through you( you are the female narrator, correct. You are very talented btw), I admit at first I was disappointed. But upon short reflection, the choice, Mothers palpable presence was there. It was just the perfect choice. For She is still there, as immediate and appreciable as She is to we who follow Her, and call ourselves Her Children, know Her to be. Yes, it was done well and right. Thank you, many times. Blessings upon you and yours...and even better...Mother approves and is glad of Heart for this...I look forward as always for your future entries. And in closing may I say...I feel you as Styx to be a brilliant performance, truly..I Abide, your admirer, S.🌒❤️🔥🌘
Polynesian mythology would be really interesting to see as you continue to expand your content!
Noted! Will add it to the ever-growing list!
- Lightbringer
This is one of those myths that’s so interesting to see how people look at. From more modernizations, to deep dissections of it (how much is it Hades fault, how much Zues, so on). I am eager to see your take on it.
Hope you liked it!
- Lightbringer
If it wasn’t for the ads interrupting these would be the best sleep stories ever!! These are amazing! My wife and I truly enjoy listening to these together. Thank you!!
Here I was thinking the Greek Saga was over. Sir Baldermort And Lady Lightbringer, this was another fantastic piece of mythology brought to life. And Hades! He looked so good! The facial animations are looking awesome 😎 Looking forward to more fantastic work as you have always done, and looking forward to seeing your channel get the recognition it deserves 😎
More to come! No - Greek is still on going! We just wanted to branch out further - explore different gods !
But we won't forget the greeks !
Thank you so much - we are trying new things and I'm so glad it's working out!
Thank you for watching and joining our journey into all sorts of mythological stories!

"The palace of Hades at the center of this realm. and in the glittering throne room of polished onyx, he showed me his throne!"
I love this interpretation of hades and persephone! ❤ love it so much im watching it again lol ! Would love to hear more about them as a couple
I honestly just discovered your channel 2 weeks ago and loving it. I love mythology in itself but particularly Greek. Your doing great job. Bit of advice. I like Norse but finish Greek as it's more popular outside of Thor of course lol. Keep up great work
HI kkiwi, Thank you so much for all of your generosity.
So good
Ooooo I'm very happy to hear you enjoyed our version!
Tales and Myths can be interpreted in many different ways!
- Lightbringer
The various interpretations of this narrative are fascinating. From further updates to thorough analyses of it. Your thoughts on it are much anticipated.
I hope you enjoyed !
It is a fascinating tale to delve into !

One of my favorite stories
I hope you enjoy it !
- Lightbringer
Excellent story well done ✔ telling it. The pictures 📸 in the story were fantastic.
Thank you kindly!
- Lightbringer
Its crazy how most people perceives Hades to be the villain in this story but in actuality he did as was custom at the time...he got permission from her father, his brother, Zeus to have her hand in marriage. So when he gave his blessing, Persephone was HIS property now.
Wild right?!
- Lightbringer
"MY GRIEF HAD CONSUMED ME. i WALLOWED AND i WAILED"
Honestly, the greek stories are my favorite but THIS is some of your best work ❤❤❤
Wow, thank you so much!

Beautiful video and story as always
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it !

Fantastic, Living Mythology! It's a pleasure to listen. I recently started playing the video game, Hades, and it sparked my interest in learning more about Greek mythology. Lower the whole, I'm subscribed to an awesome channel that covers much Greek mythology and other pantheons as well! Thank you so much for all your hard work!
I have heard of the game Hades, and heard it's fantastic! Anything that brings myths to life again, I support!
And we're so happy to help fuel your love and hunger for more greek mythology, welcome aboard and plenty of tales to come!
- Lightbringer
A perfect way to end the weekend, thank you Lightbringer!
My pleasure! Thank you for watching!

The story of Hades and Persephone reminds me again how wild Greek mythology is. Amazing job with this portrayal and narration!
Thank you so much my friend - We're very happy to hear you enjoyed our version!

One of my all time favorite Greek mythology stories
This channel is spectacular! It took me but a few days to enjoy your Greek stories, and now that I’ve finished the Norse videos, I’m re-watching everything from beginning to end.
Quick question: in your earlier videos, the gods’ powers and health were not contingent on human worship, nor did sacrifice provide anything other than reverence and recreation to the gods.
Did something change, or are these stories inclusive of doctrines which had a different view of the gods’ nature?
Any idea?
Demeter is the epitome of a possessive controlling mother. Her unwillingness to let her daughter go is the exact thing that drove her away. Of course, Persephone still loves her, but she longs to live her own life. And in typical possessive parent fashion, Demeter makes it everyone else's problem and refuses to relent until she gets her way. I love how you told this tale. I love the interpretation that Hades is a proud and noble king, and Persephone is his beautiful, regal and fair Queen. They have a real genuine bond, and even Demeter cannot break that. As always, keep up the wonderful work.
Yours Truly
Zachariah
Demeter, in the myths, isn’t controlling. Her daughter was kidnapped and was greenlighted by Zeus as some arranged marriage. Neither Demeter nor Persephone had any say in arrangements. While Persephone was elevated to a King and has arguably the most stable relationship by Greek mythology standards, it costs her time and proximity to her mother.
@kaykay8855
There are various interpretations of the myths.
@kaykay8855
The word rape (harpage in Greek) in the context of ancient Greek meant the abduction or eloping of women for marriage purposes without their guardian's consent.
Thank you so much my friend - I am glad to hear it !

Love these. Like seriously I’ve watched every video on this channel 7 times 😅
You're the best! Thank you so much for watching and it means a lot you enjoy our channel so much!
Hope you enjoy all the tales to come!
- Lightbringer
A slight variation on my favorite take on this tale. I love the depiction of Demeter as a possessive mother, keeping her daughter isolated to be hers and hers alone.
Knowing her brothers is it possession or protection
@@ladybugmoenning2559 I'm sure she sees it as the former, but in this marvelous take on the tale, it's clearly the latter. She saw the girl as her possession.
You can’t protect her for eternity, and what’s the point when the gods are immortal.
"..the cold rage came creeping back"
"She had threatened the very existence of the Gods"
One of my favourite myths! Excellently done! Would love to see the myth of Io.
Great suggestion! It's already on the list!
Thank you for watching and enjoying this video my friend!

I absolutely love the way you guys tell these stories. You make them come alive in a way I've not seen before. I've always loved Pursephone, this, and his taking over the underworld, makes me love Hades as well.
I'm so happy you like our stories and they do feel alive to you! That's always been the goal - and I love Hades, so it's great to get people to see a different side of him, maybe even like him too!
Thank you for watching!

You truly are your fathers daughter. Very well done Lightbringer...there's not much left for Lord Baltemort to teach you. Your inflection is perfect for creating comedy and tenderness while he is the master of using inflection to create suspense and conflict. How about some Sumrian mythology in 2024? Love you both!!!!
Thank you so much - it means a lot that you think I'm doing well - I still have a lot to learn from old Balders but we're getting there!
I shall add Sumerian Myths to our ever-growing list ! And Thank you for your continued support my friend!
I hope you enjoy the stories to come!

I’m sure I will
"Light was then all around me as I opened my eyes, to see a Goddess"
I would lovvvvvvvveeeeee more stories about them and there work 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😩😩😩
In some traditions all of the flowers of the underworld come from Persephone, peior tales actually tell of the lifelessness of the the Underworld, but once mentioned as queen the underworld became flushed with flowers that shine like jewels.
MORE Norse mythology!!! I love the greek stuff but the gods of the north sing in my blood and i love their stories soo many good ones.
Absolutely amazing!! Do not stop!!
Cheers! We hope you enjoy all stories to come!

"...the whole planet was barren"

Good work. you have a beautiful voice. I liked how you portrayed the devouring mother. And using a flower as the call to adventure. It was fun thank you.
Thank you so much!
- Lightbringer
As ever and always I love your take on these stories. Honestly I'm not sure other than Dresden files of any take on the story of Persephone that has portrayed Hades as anything other than a kidnapper and Demiter's cagingg of her daughter til that point Just.
A fitting tale for the coming spring.
Thank you my friend - I am very happy to hear you enjoyed the perspective we took :)

So well done
Aww thank you!

"...and that, was the final straw. The torch in my hand cracked clean into two"

Complete art my friends
You guys are an amazing storytelling team
Hope you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching - our team of two appreciate it a lot!

Is it mè or does Demeter talking head looks like Catelyn Stark from game of thrones lol
oooo it kind of does??? !!! 😮

"My hogget reflection, showing the torment of my mind...and all I could do was cry"
"I searched tirelessly without food, without water, I felt a despair grow|"
Beautiful story, fab narrative x
Thank you so much!

Demeter's mother is Rhea.... Not Gaea... Gaes is her grandmother as Rhea is a titaness daughter of Gaea
Hmm, I have a question. Persephone became Queen of the Underworld when she married Hades. How did Ereshkigal get the title of Queen of the Underworld?
Wrong mythology. That's Sumerian.
exelent!
Thank you! Cheers!

"I began my hunt, leaving all my duties to the wayside"
I love this story:)
Imagine having summer all around the year ...
And wow - that's incredibly high praise, to be a child's first introduction to myths ! Show them the old myths when they're old enough too, but I hope we can inspire some passion for gods and legends!!!

✨I am Persephone✨Daughter of 🌻Dimitra🌻GAIA🌻✨Queen of the Underworld✨OF HADES✨
Please do a video on adonis, I find his story gross & confusing. I like your narration style and want some clarifications to make sense of it.
I like hades and persephone relationship & thought they had the healthiest relationship and are loyal to each other, but the version of story that implies she fell in romantic love with the infant she raised feels icky and gross. That implies that persephone was a groomer and pd_file
