      Nick is the only (mostly) car channel I've stuck with. Salomondrin is too loud and over-the-top (sort of like an overgrown adolescent). Vehicle Virgins used to be great but he moved out west, gave up his pleasant college kid persona, and started acting over-the-top like Salomondrin and thus got annoying (although videos including his mom are great). Schmee is okay. Matt Farrah talks way too much. AutoTopNL is good with his little-talk-POV videos. But Nick's car and lifestyle videos just continue to be welcome whenever they're released. I know Nick is IT and so am I so maybe I "connect" with him at that level somehow. Plus I have a growing interest in cameras, camera equipment, and drones so Nick's videos give us that too. Plus it's nice to see a legal, culturally compatible, and productive immigrant.

      Yes the look of the old rear end has character. Nothing else on the road looks like it. The new “lightbar” design is similar to quite a few auto makers these days. So I am a huge fan of the old look vs. the new look. In fact just traded in my 2015 Macan S for a 2018 Macan S. I avoided the new one just because of the rear lights

    • @timmccabe4654
      @timmccabe4654 5 лет назад +3

      @ale3hs 5 лет назад +2

      Agreed, the facelift Macan has an audi TFSI 3.0 while the previous gen has the 3.0 Porsche engine which is also found in the panamera 4s/s facelift tuned to 420.

    • @gizamlukeable
      @gizamlukeable 5 лет назад +1

      Yes you are correct. The 2.0L T remained the same while the new 3.0L is an Audi derived engine. But both engines are heavily tweaked and worked on by Porsche engineers. The new 3.0L has a single twin-scroll turbocharger located centrally in the inner-V of the engine which helps reduce turbo lags and improve responsiveness. Not like the old Macans were suffering from these issues, so it is even better now. The "hot-V" layout is unique to Porsche and not used on the VW counter parts.
      All these changes even before mating to Porsche's famous PDK dual clutch gear box. Even the 2.0L T comes to life with the PDK.
      Both 2.0L and 3.0L are good engines, just depending on one's needs.
      Many believe the new 2.9L twin-turbocharged also "hot-V" seen on the Panamera & Cayenne S will be on the new Macan GTS / Turbo.

    Previously, the Macan S used a Porsche-developed 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, but now, it's been replaced with an Audi-sourced single-turbo 3.0-liter V6 making 348 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. It's the same basic engine found in the base Cayenne and Panamera, as well as the Audi S4, S5, and SQ5, though it gets some software changes.

    Good summary. Some errors related to the engine in the S model though. The old engine is in fact all Porsche. The new engine is a VW/Audi unit. The old engine is a twin turbo, and the new is a single scroll turbo. A major difference is that the old engine was a dry sump, and the new is not. So, the new engine saves Porsche considerable cost, but is a step backward. Yes, they've turned up the turbo a little to offset this but a real enthusiast would be disappointed; much like replacing the lovely flat six in the Cayman with a turbo 4.....more horse power/torque, but another disappointment from a manufacturer reducing costs and trying to meet mileage targets.

      I get asked car questions a lot ... I'm a true gearhead living in Manhattan. Eh, there's always Turo.

    Such a 180 degree change of your opinion of Macan. Back then when u drove macan on the track day you said it’s just dumb to call this sport car of suv, now u said u r a proud owner and so much fun. U r welcome

    The 2018 model and below had the porsche engine and 2019 and newer has the audi engine. Just want to correct you on that

    One big down side - generic Audi single turbo motor vs Porsche engineered twin turbo motor of old model. The old engine took very well to an ECU tune, but according to GIAC the new ECU is pretty much locked out to tuning.

    Nick, please verify your information. The 2019 & newer Macan S has Audi’s 3.0 liter single turbo 6-cylinder engine. The 2018 & older Macan S actually has Porsche’s 3.0 liter twin-turbo 6-cylinder.

      vockey11 Thanks for bringing this up and that is what I have learned about the engine for the 2019 models as well. The 2019 refresh is actually less Porsche than previous model years with the engine being a shared 3.0 liter from VW/Audi instead of a Porsche designed like previous gen. I just hope Porsche will bring us something special for the next generation (2020/2021).

    Nick, I know a guy in Portugal who took his Porsche Macan Turbo (the previous model, not the new one) to these specialists in raising horses: www.vcpower.pt/ and went from 400 hp to 1000 hp, with the introduction of new Turbo and remapping of the ECU. The car is insane! Every time he calls it, it shakes everywhere. It has a colossal force. But it spends so much fuel. It's the reverse of the medal.
