What’s that flashing lightbox thing in the background?
That is a flashing lightbox thing.
Hahahahaha Nick well played!
@@NickMurray That's the thing i love most about visiting this channel, the depth of raw talent one can find here..
Some kind of LED grid, similar to this: hackspace.raspberrypi.org/features/cubert-when-an-led-grid-wont-cut-it-take-the-blinkenlights-to-another
@@NickMurray It's your wine fridge?
I wouldn’t call the new rear light bar a subtle change. Works on 992 and Panamera but I prefer the old design on the Macan.
Think you will find that the old V6 engine was a Porsche and the new one is an Audi unit.
A new Nick Murray Video is always a welcome sight!
Nick is the only (mostly) car channel I've stuck with. Salomondrin is too loud and over-the-top (sort of like an overgrown adolescent). Vehicle Virgins used to be great but he moved out west, gave up his pleasant college kid persona, and started acting over-the-top like Salomondrin and thus got annoying (although videos including his mom are great). Schmee is okay. Matt Farrah talks way too much. AutoTopNL is good with his little-talk-POV videos. But Nick's car and lifestyle videos just continue to be welcome whenever they're released. I know Nick is IT and so am I so maybe I "connect" with him at that level somehow. Plus I have a growing interest in cameras, camera equipment, and drones so Nick's videos give us that too. Plus it's nice to see a legal, culturally compatible, and productive immigrant.
Looking forward to the options video😎
Great comparison. When is options video going to be released??
Prefer rear-end of the old model...
So do I. In fact traded my ‘15 for a ‘18 Macan S. Intentionally avoided buying the 2021 just because of the rear “ lightbar” on the new one
Thanks for the review Nick. It's cool of you to use your influence with your dealer for discounts for your viewers.
I actually prefer the older macan’s rear end. However, the rest of the updates are very welcome.
i agree
Yes the look of the old rear end has character. Nothing else on the road looks like it. The new “lightbar” design is similar to quite a few auto makers these days. So I am a huge fan of the old look vs. the new look. In fact just traded in my 2015 Macan S for a 2018 Macan S. I avoided the new one just because of the rear lights
Nick, you have it the wrong way round. It WAS a Porsche engine. It is now an Audi engine. Your car has the Audi engine.
I was about to say the same. He did get it backwards. The old engine is better
Nick, you should be an official spokesperson for Porsche. ;)
Rear tail lights makes it look like a lincoln SUV .Alright,Alright,Alright.
Love my 2018 agate gray Macan S with LED lights, Premium Plus and Active Cruise Control. Best small SUV on the market. For fun, I have a black 2004 911 turbo cab. My first Porsche was a 1987 911 cab in 2001. There is nothing like a Porsche.
Really cannot wait to waste an hour of my life watching the in-depth options video for a car I'm likely to never own :)
I own one lol
Mamba green in person looks pretty good to my eyes on the Macan, something I wasn't expecting.
those background lights in your dining room...I'm trippin'!!!
I really hope that Porsche gave you an incredible deal on your Macan S. You are a great ambassador for the Porsche brand. Happy to see you are in another Porsche.
Mine is 2 weeks old, loving it!
Ok mate...
You got to tell me one thing...
What kind of a Lightshow is goin BEHIND YOU over on your right shoulder ..?😂
That looks like a MUST HAVE ...👍
Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪
Next video will be Tui and Nick's dance party in the other room. I can't wait!
I'm collecting my Volcano Grey Macan S next Saturday and I can't wait!
My understanding is that the new 3.0L T in the S, is an Audi/Porsche unit, unlike the old 3.0L TT, which was Porsche only.
. While I am no authority, I agree. I believe the new six-cylinder was lifted from the current Audi S4. Very conspicuous that both have 354 hp..
Tim McCabe yes and I believe this 3.0L T is also used in the Audi SQ5.
Agreed, the facelift Macan has an audi TFSI 3.0 while the previous gen has the 3.0 Porsche engine which is also found in the panamera 4s/s facelift tuned to 420.
Yes you are correct. The 2.0L T remained the same while the new 3.0L is an Audi derived engine. But both engines are heavily tweaked and worked on by Porsche engineers. The new 3.0L has a single twin-scroll turbocharger located centrally in the inner-V of the engine which helps reduce turbo lags and improve responsiveness. Not like the old Macans were suffering from these issues, so it is even better now. The "hot-V" layout is unique to Porsche and not used on the VW counter parts.
All these changes even before mating to Porsche's famous PDK dual clutch gear box. Even the 2.0L T comes to life with the PDK.
Both 2.0L and 3.0L are good engines, just depending on one's needs.
Many believe the new 2.9L twin-turbocharged also "hot-V" seen on the Panamera & Cayenne S will be on the new Macan GTS / Turbo.
Wierd. Nick said the opposite. And no mention of the diesel.
In the old one they had the AC vents directly behind the steering wheel. which was very annoying in hot days. your fingers would freeze and your whole will stay hot and sweaty. This is the most important improvement in my opinion.
I was just about to go to work and I saw your video, looks like I am going to have to call my boss that I will be coming in late.
Sounds way better that the old one. Nice purchase
@Nick
Good Video..,waiting for the 2nd part - Options list
I am loving the new Macan. Such a well-proportioned and beautiful car. I am just glad they took all that shiny black from the center console and replaced it with matte. I am also loving the clear tail lights even though I haven’t seen one Macan with that option so far haha. Thanks for another great video Nick!
Clear tail lights in next weeks video
@@NickMurray Awesome! can't wait
The updated rear lights look so good
Do a wrap, I always wrap my cars. I currently have a Panamera in Satin Flip ghost white and a 911 in Flip psychedelic (looks like Matt grey in the shade and in the suns it looks like a hologram) cheers
Thank you for the update! Looking for one my self
Wrap the Macan to the classic Porsche color you originally wanted on the 991.2?
What an arm-load of work you make for yourself.. but still, I admire what you are doing. A good man, in my book.
Regards
WF
The back lights and rear on the 2020 look like the back of the Lincoln suv mkx
Very awesome of you to help folks get a good deal!
Old has nicer design which will still be nice within 10years !
Previously, the Macan S used a Porsche-developed 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, but now, it's been replaced with an Audi-sourced single-turbo 3.0-liter V6 making 348 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. It's the same basic engine found in the base Cayenne and Panamera, as well as the Audi S4, S5, and SQ5, though it gets some software changes.
Definitely make a video about you impressions about the new beautiful 718 gt4 and spyder! From an engineering perspective the 4.0L engine is really special.
Great video... I love the configuration videos.. there should be videos like that for every car on the market. Details make all the difference.
I think we need a video of sweet Mum coming to visit you and driving this Macan.
Nick, great video as always. I just joined the Porsche family with an ‘07 997.1 911 targa 4. Very excited to be part of Porsche life.
Keep the good vids coming
Settle down. It’s a car. It won’t change your life and if it does you should think about your life.
Just want to say thank you for these videos as I am currently trying to decide between a Macan and a couple other SUV's as my next car and find this format both fun to watch and very informative. Thanks
Phew, Nick is back in the job making videos.
The Old one looks better , don`t like the new taillights.
I agree... vehemently.
As an Aussie who watches your vids, I thoroughly enjoy your Porsche content even though the steering wheel is on the wrong side... At least Porsche options don’t differ too much between countries... keep up the enjoyable content 😊
It's definitely a nice step up from the golf! Hopefully this one won't have any little niggles or Gremlins that creep up! wishing you the best Nick. Cheers
Glad to see you back in the groove Nick!
Nick, I’ll pile on here as well....the ‘19 Macan S now uses an Audi engine. Audi/VW are exclusively supplying I4s and V6s to Porsche. The “flat” engines and V8s are Porsche engines.
Hi Nick I’ve got a 2017 (66) Volcano Greg Macan S. Brilliant daily driver. If I’m honest I prefer the old rear lights. Very cool and part of the design features that drew me to the car. The next version in 2022 should be really interesting with hybrid and battery options. I had looked at other colours also but the Grey is a solid colour and looks refined.
Nice symphony Nick. My favourite!
Just bought a 2015 S with 60k miles....can't wait for delivery! Was $84k new...
Nick, could you make a review of the new Mercedes GLC 63S. The fastest SUV on the Nürburgring.
Murray. There is no substitute for the ultimate Porsche fanboy!
Nice to see you enjoying it but I would love to see it in Mamba Green 💚
Girl on Swiss Roads I agree!! See if I can fix that Anna
@@NickMurray You could also wrap it pink. That'll show you have guts to pull it off x
@@AnnaOnRoads Nick in the pink ... what an awful thought, wheres that (mind) bleach ...
Hi Nick. Love your channel. Waiting eagerly for your Macan configurator options video.
But, are they reliable?
I really enjoy your channel more and more...and that Mamba Green is perfect for this Macan.
Flash flashy in the background???
Nice touch up to your house, Nick, with those disco lights.
Nick, your description of the new Macan temps me to buy one! And....I hate SUV's.
To be honest, the old one is an instant classic, the new one's tail light looks way messy and ugly in comparison.
Good summary. Some errors related to the engine in the S model though. The old engine is in fact all Porsche. The new engine is a VW/Audi unit. The old engine is a twin turbo, and the new is a single scroll turbo. A major difference is that the old engine was a dry sump, and the new is not. So, the new engine saves Porsche considerable cost, but is a step backward. Yes, they've turned up the turbo a little to offset this but a real enthusiast would be disappointed; much like replacing the lovely flat six in the Cayman with a turbo 4.....more horse power/torque, but another disappointment from a manufacturer reducing costs and trying to meet mileage targets.
Perfectly content with my ‘17 Macan Turbo. Will wait for the 2022 update
Then according to what we’re hearing about the future Macan now, you will be driving an all electric vehicle in 2022.
Hi Nick, great vid again thanks and glad to hear you're happy with the new wheels. Oh by the way, seems there is an alien light source trying to communicate with your plant in the background. See how the plant even lights up from all the excitement :)
The Porsche refresh is at least a 6 pak better looking than the old model.
Aces, Nick; well done.
You failed to stop at the stop sign at 3:38. I'll notify the Connecticut State Police. Haha
Congratulations on the new machine. I have not even seen my Macan S since I bought it 6 weeks ago my Daughter loves it so much she is constantly driving it around everywhere
Great review - thanks Nick.
Best car channel
Nice insights from the orangutan back there.
Dang Nick. Wasn't planning on trading in my 2016 Macan S for a new one. Maybe was gonna upgrade to the Turbo in the old style (figure they'd come a little cheaper now). After this, you're kinda making me want to get a new one. The Volcano gray is a fantastic color; the bright colors are stirring but you'd run the risk of getting tired of such a distinctive shade.
Very nice and informative review. I feel bad for those who have the 2018. I hope they got a great deal.
Love my newly bought 2018. Intentionally avoided the 2021. Don’t like the new rear end
Didn’t like the Macan when it originally came out, but I loooove the refresh!! Also, where did you get your gorilla stuffed animal?
I thought the facelift Macan has the same engine in the Audi S4. Either way I think the pre-facelift Macan S sounds better.
Not sure where you're from but in Germany that's because there's a new law that every new car from now on has to be equipped with OPF (Otto-particle-filter). Kills the sound almost completely...
@@blankspace5614 It's not just that, even without the OPF, the new one sounds way worse.
@@trihardcx6743 Oh ok. I'm not even sure what they sound like tbh because pretty much all Macans here in Germany are Diesel lol
@@blankspace5614 Check out a video of the Macan GTS exhaust. It makes an amazing and unique sound.
Shirt perfectly describes his choice of lemon cars and SUVs that don't get released
i am always skeptical of refreshes but this seems pretty extensive.
I would still choose the Diesel Engine, I don't think the changes to the 2019 model would be worth the sacrifice of the Diesel Macan S engine
Nick, love the channel. I’m a tall one at 6’5”. Think I would fit into a Macan?
Great vid nick!
You should get a 718 GT4 for your sports car!
2018 Panamera Turbo Sport Turismos are 29%+ off if you work at it helped two people get that discount. Both times happened to be CA dealers oddly.
yes always crazy discounts old old stock Panamera's
@@NickMurray Definitely the cars were on the lot 400+ days.
Funny enough, the REAR tail lights are my most hated part of the design, yes they're now more consistent, BUT they now look like most other SUVs, Ford, KIA, etc... WORST part of the new car!
What I LOVE, is the interior, they kept the button which are awesome and added the new PCM and screen. I HATE the stupid fingerprint magnet touchscreen panel on new Cayenne, 911, Panamera... it looks cool, yet terrible in use, almost dangerous to use while driving and a really dumb move!
Thkq for your excellent review. I'm looking for the 2019 macan S.
Hope to purchase early next year. Pls advise..
Nick, when is the video coming about all the "options"?
i think i'll buy a porsche (at some point) just because of you, keep up the good job! 👌👍🥳
Wikipedia says that the Macan S uses the VW EA839 engine.. so it’s the same engine as in the S4/S5/SQ5 and also shares components with the 2.9 V6 from the Cayenne S and Pan S and RS4.... so apparently, it’s not a Porsche engine
Nice car Nick!
@Nick, you actually got it WRONG on the engine, the OLD Macan S engine was Porsche developed, while this new engine is Audi/VW developed and is shared across platforms.
I’ve heard from a number of sources that the next gen macan will be electric only
Hoping you review the new 718 GT4
A friend had precisely this question - what do I lose buying used? ... forwarding video to her now.
I get asked car questions a lot ... I'm a true gearhead living in Manhattan. Eh, there's always Turo.
Was that a Gameboy there at the end?
Such a 180 degree change of your opinion of Macan. Back then when u drove macan on the track day you said it’s just dumb to call this sport car of suv, now u said u r a proud owner and so much fun. U r welcome
How do you know this will not change in 2022?
Sorry Nick but that is not a frameless mirror.
Make Sense pretty close 🤪
You should do stickers for the store
The 2018 model and below had the porsche engine and 2019 and newer has the audi engine. Just want to correct you on that
One big down side - generic Audi single turbo motor vs Porsche engineered twin turbo motor of old model. The old engine took very well to an ECU tune, but according to GIAC the new ECU is pretty much locked out to tuning.
Nick, please verify your information. The 2019 & newer Macan S has Audi’s 3.0 liter single turbo 6-cylinder engine. The 2018 & older Macan S actually has Porsche’s 3.0 liter twin-turbo 6-cylinder.
vockey11 Thanks for bringing this up and that is what I have learned about the engine for the 2019 models as well. The 2019 refresh is actually less Porsche than previous model years with the engine being a shared 3.0 liter from VW/Audi instead of a Porsche designed like previous gen. I just hope Porsche will bring us something special for the next generation (2020/2021).
Nick, I know a guy in Portugal who took his Porsche Macan Turbo (the previous model, not the new one) to these specialists in raising horses: www.vcpower.pt/ and went from 400 hp to 1000 hp, with the introduction of new Turbo and remapping of the ECU. The car is insane! Every time he calls it, it shakes everywhere. It has a colossal force. But it spends so much fuel. It's the reverse of the medal.
Awesome bro! From Akld NZ!
