You are most welcome! I'm very glad to hear it was useful... I made another video more recently with tips to save when buying from them, you may find it of interest... And let me know how it goes, if you do buy from them.
From the moment I saw the very first BackMarket ad years ago it struck me as a terrible idea just on the face of it. In my book, unless the *battery* is replaced, the device is not meaningfully "refurbished". The value of the most mind-blowingly awesome second-hand gadget in the world is undercut by the simple fact of its lifespan being tied the (unswappable) battery, which is subject to diminishing cell capacity and eventual death.
In 2021 or 2022, some kind person removed my iPod Shuffle from my coat pocket in the cloakroom at work. This distressed me a lot, but I was absolutely devastated when I went online in order to purchase a replacement, only to be informed that Apple had stopped making them and that therefore this would be impossible. This is what led me to place an order with Back Market for what purported to be the same device. What was delivered was not an iPod and was not even made by Apple, though it had had a small Apple logo somehow superimposed onto it. Further, the quality of reproduction it gave was so appalling that it could never be used. The nearest comparison I could make would be that it sounded like on old 78 record played on a wind-up gramophone, but with a stylus which is hopelessly worn. I was really too upset to complain, so I just put it away and have never used it.
I'm sorry man, that's a real series of unfortunate events... Have you considered ebay? No warranties but you generally have pictures of the actual item you are ordering... I guess you probably don't need an ipod anymore in the era of smartphones 🤷♂️ but maybe just for nostalgia's sake...
@@askholland Hi! This would seem to be a very good idea, but the situation was really a little more complex than this. The work that I did made the risk very high of smashing or losing a smartphone but at the same time people at the job had to be able to reach you when they might not actually know where you are. For this reason I only carried an old school Nokia about with me during work. Thanks for bothering to suggest though.
My wife didn't know it was a reseller site and ordered me a phone . Let's just say it's an expensive paper weight. Backmarket is a scam or at minimum a mediator for scammers
I'm very very carefull about third parties on backmarket. I bought two note 9s but gave up when 2 months later both their internal hardware failed and went into complete shutdown and became bricks.
Good that you got a refund, but that's a shame. Thankfully I haven't had to return one, I imagine some of the refurbishers can be quite a pain to deal with, I'm a little surprised you had to go to them in the first place, i thought returns were through backmarket themselves?
Same experience! The first time I bought from them the phone arrived with a battery problem and there was no way I could return the product. so I have never gone back there.
I bought my first phone from Back Market and it is NOT the model I ordered! Now I'll see how the return process goes. Hopefully not too much of hassle but annoying since they didn't send me what I ordered. Ordered from Decluttr and they sent what I ordered. Don't think I'll be using Back Market again.
So I bought a phone from Back Market and Decluttr. Back Market sent the wrong model. BUT it was a relatively easy process to return it. Decluttr, on the other hand was a NIGHTMARE! Still ongoing.
Sorry to hear that, it's always a pain when they mess up, and you're the one who has to spend time fixing it... What went wrong with Decluttr? (I don't think we have them here in the UK so this is purely curiosity.)
I am missing part of my order and get no response from anyone. I probably will never order from back market again since their help center sends you to the same place over and over.
don't use backmarket unless you want to get ripped off, terrible service. You can't blame a customer if the item was sent that way and mind you I complained the very day I recieved it.
I’m so skeptical, I wanted to buy a 12 pro and my option was swappa becuase ik someone who bought from there but then I see ur video and checked black market out and they’re cheaper than I expected. I’m worried about 2 things, I pay and it comes in worse condition than I agreed or it takes too long or doesn’t arrive.
Thanks for watching. I think you can rely on Backmarket to step in if either of those becomes a problem. I don't really know about swappa... I need to look it up.
Thank you for the video! You have 5 followers now! Considering buying some tech from them, since the quality of these phones was not bad at all, can you share the sellers from which you order please?
Thanks for following! Yeah, the phones weren't too bad, I'd say my best experience (the s20 ultra) was from a seller called 'Uber Link Ltd.' Good luck, and let me know how it goes...
I had a very bad experience with this company and I don't trust them. They messed me about giving me wrong information. They then told me I need to send them a copy of my driving licence or passport before they would take payment from my card! Unbelievably bad customer service and I won't have anything more to do with them.
Omg me too! They took my money out of my account even though they said my order was canceled 😞 so I might have to file for fraud with my bank at this point cause seems they stole my money

Backmarket sent me a cracked phone with loose adhesive and when I tried sending it back for a return they sent it back saying it was not included in the warrenty.
I'm sorry to hear that, that's a real pain. I dunno where you are based, but there are consumer protections to help with that kind of thing here in the UK, normally writing an email quoting relevant protections is enough to get things sorted pronto... If there is something wrong with a Product in the 1st 30 days, the onus is almost always on the seller to prove it wasn't present at purchase...

I think I got scammed by them. Bought an excellent Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5g for 530. After only 2 weeks I noticed heavy brightness differences starting, then one morning, a stress crack going from the right on/off button towards the middle. no drop or bent or anything. they refused warrenty with the reason "cracked display" and offered me to sell it to them again. now, 2 months in, I have it back, the crack is now curving downwards, growing. and the display gets greener daily. I am now back on my note 8 and the "new" one is back in the box. I also tested the display: it is in fact not 120hz, but only 60. I also think the camera is a cheap fake since it has heavy problems with any focus. Any ideas?
Sorry this got caught by RUclipss filter for some reason. That's awful, I don't really have anything to say to help, maybe someone else can weigh in... You know what, if you can figure out if it is actually a non original display that should force backmarket to accept it... I don't know what consumer protections are like where you are, but if you have been sold something other than what was advertised there may well be something that can be done.
Always buy the accidental drop and spill insurance they offer for $25 for 13 months or $35 for 24 months. So worth it . Yes you still have to pay like a $50 fee to repair your phone but at least you aren't' out hundreds or more and can relax knowing you are covered.

Hi, I don't think there is really any worry of scam, if you are not happy with the phone you can always return it for 30 days I believe. And if there is anything wrong with it, it is covered by their 1 yr. warranty. If small size is most important to you, have you considered the iPhone 12 mini? So days later, I just ended up just not wanting my thing anymore and bought it off in a better site, which was even closer to Sweden and not somewhere from France, which took so long
Back Market's web site doesn't tell you which version of windows you're going to get. I contacted help and they were no help. They told me to contact the seller. What good is a middleman who can't answer a basic question? I mean, imagine Best Buy telling you they don't know what version of windows is coming with the PC you just bought. THEN back Back Market wanted to know if I liked my experience with them. Imagine that! THEY want INFO from ME! Good grief -- how clueless they are.
I hear what you're saying...I have not bought things a few times because the details were lacking... But, despite that (and the way they present themselves) I think one should think of them as more akin to an 'Ebay', a very light handed middleman who don't handle the goods themselves (I'm not even sure if returns go through them)... If their prices were much higher than other refurbishers then I would expect better service, but as they're not for the most part, I'm willing g to cut them some slack here...
@@whizzard Back Market brags that they adhere to a "rigorous vetting process" and that they "work hand-in-hand with professional refurbishers"...but they can't tell me which version of windows comes with a machine? And let's get real here: I wrote code for 35 years -- it's a simple task to provide attributes in a database table, and they certainly could have allowed for a field that holds a value to indicate the OS version. My god, it's design & coding 101. Was there no user testing pre-implementation? It's pathetic. You're free to make excuses for them, but I won't do so.
Well, I'm no expert on Iphones, but my best guess is the original battery may have been replaced with a generic battery.... I don't know if this is problematic beyond the points you have mentioned... Hopefully someone else can weigh in...
afaik yeah the battery must've been replaced and they opted for a 3rd party component meaning apple may refuse repairs (not sure if all or just battery) But that's pretty disappointing since there website claims they use all genuine apple parts, now im more apprehensive..

I am joined at the hip to Back Market. Have purchased 2 hi end Samsung phones from them. Both arrives rapidly and were in EXCELLENT condition . Love these guys! Just remember - Black Market doesNOT TECH the goodies, they resell. so whining about B.M and an unclean phone is rather unfair to B.M. R/e packing - TASCAM uses the same "shock absorbing sleeve" method to ship multi thousand dollar hi end recording devices ... never had issues there. the "sleeve" takes a great deal of the shock element out of shipping.

back market is a real site and they ship your items to you but these items are replicated they don't use original parts. if you want extra proof get a real iphone vs a back market iphone and put the 2 phones on a regular call and look at the font sizes on the regular calls and compare the 2 phone. Not only that when you facetime someone they don't use the regular layout and these go for all phones sold on this site it's a scam for the iPhones to be this fake for this high of a person is ridiculous. even when its updated to the newest version its still the same replica layout !
Your first hint that backmarket has nothing worthwhile to offer. Is that all of their videos on RUclips? Have no opportunity for you to offer a comment.
I bought in early June, and I think prices in general have gone up (with the overall economy not doing so well more people are looking to buy refurbished...) That said, the prices often fluctuate significantly over a few days, so keep checking it and it'll probably come down a bit.
Also search the model you want, and sort by 'lowest price first' they don't always show you the listing with the best prices first... I can see the s20 ultra for just under 310 currently. Which ain't great tbh, but is a little better.
I decided to go with Back Market because of the warranty. They have 1 year. Gazelle is only 30 days as far as I can tell. Just ordered a phone. Will see how it goes. UPDATE in comment below.
UPDATE: I needed two phones. I ordered one from Back Market. The other a couple days later from Decluttr. The Back Market phone is NOT the one I ordered. I specifically ordered a T-Mobile phone and they sent me a factory-unlocked one. Decluttr DID send the one I ordered. Now I'm pissed, because Decluttr HAD two, and now they don't have any more. I'll see how the return process goes with Back Market and hopefully Decluttr will get more in. I hope the return process goes smoothly.

Hi!
I'm sorry to hear that, what's wrong with it? And have you tried returning?
I'm very very carefull about third parties on backmarket. I bought two note 9s but gave up when 2 months later both their internal hardware failed and went into complete shutdown and became bricks.
Sorry to hear, I have had that with an old s4 before (not from backmarket), have you been able to return under warranty?
@@whizzard I got a full refund but a very bad customer service with the seller
Sorry to hear that ☹️ Try making a stink on twitter... Sometimes that's the only way to get through to brands...
are you missing something major or just a cable?
don't use backmarket unless you want to get ripped off, terrible service. You can't blame a customer if the item was sent that way and mind you I complained the very day I recieved it.
Sorry to hear that, man. Did you ever manage to get it sorted out?
I’m so skeptical, I wanted to buy a 12 pro and my option was swappa becuase ik someone who bought from there but then I see ur video and checked black market out and they’re cheaper than I expected. I’m worried about 2 things, I pay and it comes in worse condition than I agreed or it takes too long or doesn’t arrive.
Thanks for watching. I think you can rely on Backmarket to step in if either of those becomes a problem. I don't really know about swappa... I need to look it up.

I'm sorry to hear that, that's a real pain.

Probably less powerful than the 11 pro, but smaller and newer...

My god, it's design & coding 101. Was there no user testing pre-implementation? It's pathetic. You're free to make excuses for them, but I won't do so.

im thinking of buying an ipjone 11 pro, im worried but after seeing these comments i might do it. i lost my phone and have already used the applecare theft and lost to its capacity so it wont cover anything.
I have overwhelmingly had good experiences with them, especially phones, but is there a particular reason you'd prefer the 11 pro over the 12? It's only a touch more and I generally feel the year newer is worth more than the 'pro'... Especially if you're not getting one with a replaced battery...

@@whizzard The title of the video
@@footagecatchers705 i asked the question, i didn't call them a scam...
Is just phone sales trustable?
In sorry, I don't understand what you are asking?
@@whizzard “just phone sales” is a store that sells iPads and iphones, are they trustable?
@@MYBESTSHOTS obviously not, if they sell more than just phones 🤣
No, sorry idk ive never bought from them... they on backmarket uk?
@@whizzard i think so, they have a physical store too… in the netherlands
@@MYBESTSHOTS oh, interesting...
I watched this video twice?. So how is Back Market a scam????
I appreciate you watching man, who said they're a scam? 😂
1:36 am i the only one that going to talk about that excellent is cheaper than good?
Actually because of the way individual sellers set their own prices, this happens quite frequently...
They stole my iphone 12, I have them the phone and never got paid.
I don't understand, are you a seller?
@@whizzard Yes I sold an iphone 12 mini. Still to this day never got paid. Sold the device 2/18/23.
@@logical-perspectiveculture2695 sorry to hear... are you an individual seller, or do you sell many phones there?
Do they do trade, or buy old phones
I think as part of a purchase they offer that now, possibly only in some countries...
So can i buy a ps4 from there i live in greece???
I don't know if they are good value, but there does appear to be a Greek version of Backmarket...
@@whizzard are they used?
@@aggelos6768 yes everything on black market besides the accessories are refurbished which means used but restored
@@Vex22778 exactly as @Aggelos said.
I'm really thinking of buying my dream phone on back market and these reviews seem promising please tell me if I should buy from there or not! I've seen a lot of reviews of people getting scammed out of ridiculous amounts of money and I've also seen a lot of positive reviews so please tell me if I should buy from the back Market!!
I don't think you are likely to get scammed, though some people seem to have had hassle with their service...
@@whizzard okay, I just don’t understand why companies would scam people knowing they could get Into what I like to call headache problems ! Anyways thank you for the response!
@@Cat_gato1 Yeah... Good luck and let me know how it goes if you do buy from them!
@@whizzard Thank you! & I will!
@@Cat_gato1what was the battery health
