I've recently started with your video series as I'm going through a process of learning Fusion 360.
The biggest issue with watching older videos, as others have said, is that the software development process has obviously progressed to improve the overall UX. Though in all cases so far, it has been easy to quickly adapt.
Furthermore, it's great to see videos like this where you encounter an issue, as you did with the fillets, to show that the process isn't always plain sailing.

I'm only fairly new to cad and even newer to fusion but your videos are teaching me so many things and how easy fusion is to use ! I was using turbocad 17 but once i tried fusion 360 i don't think i could even bother playing with TC17 again ! I seem to find doing the fillet operation last seems to be easier for me anyway .

Brilliant...I wanted to re- make a box on my 3D printer, I bought a plastic box which was 200 x 120 x 60mm deep but wanted extra 40mm on depth (100mm) re-modeled in Fusion, but, there was a 1mm lip on top of box as there was an "o" ring in the lid couldn't find a way of doing that was going to leave until i saw your video ... worked like a dream...Brilliant...John UK

I was doing what you were doing and taking notes as well. One thing came out different - I got an "Orange Line" over my entire time line with 2 time items having a Blue Line over then (the original browser BOX and later on the Sketch on the box bottom for making the dividers), not yellow, but orange and no time segment was highlighted. I also had to "flip" the direction in the WEB feature to make it work.

Hmm, I am not sure what would cause that. My thought was that you had Component Color Toggle on and that is why your timeline had different colors, but I can re-produce that.

My first thought to model the O-ring would have been to place a sketch on the top flat edge of the container. I would've then projected the edges and then offset them to the appropriate amount and then just extruded them in the negative. I like your way better though. Its simple and fast. Thanks this was helpful.

@@cadcamstuff Just one thing, bearing in mind I'm very new to fusion, when I try to add the little offset @ 9:50, then try and dimension it, after adding the 3mm dimension, then trying to add the angle, I get a warning saying 'adding this dimension will over constrain the sketch, choose OK to add a driven dimension' and there is no blue box to type into. I've no idea why, or what the second part means.

Lars. The indent didn't work for me in the newest version.
Web also changed; now found in solid; can't execute from there. Must re=select the sketch, select each line, go back to web, select depth flip extrude direction. then finish. Much more complicated now.

Hi Lars, Another great video. I wanted to ask when would you roll back the History Marker to make a change versus just going back and editing the specific feature directly without rolling the History marker back? I ask as I have seen in your video as well as others times when both are done but I am not clear as to why or when you would have to use one over the other.

That is a great question! I don't think I follow a specific pattern. But, If you just need to go back and edit a specific feature, you can just edit it. When you scroll the timeline bar, it could be because you want to roll back before a specific section to add something.

So if I understand you correctly, Rolling Back allows me to add a new sketch, body, etc to the design and inserts it into the timeline at that specific point. Where as, Going Back and editing a specific feature could be simply making a change to a dimension or the radius of a fillet?

I'm guessing the Offset tool wasn't a thing back in 2018? Creating the cut out for the o-ring could be achieved a lot easier be sketching an offset from each perimeter line.
Autodesk has had offset since at least the 1990s. There are a few reasons you wouldn't want to use offset for something like an o-ring groove, unless you are super religious about being strictly parametric. In this case, if you did an offset and then the accountants came back and said to make that top 7.8mm instead of 8mm so we can save $0.000002/case, you run the risk of the groove size getting moved around. O-ring grooves typically have some very specific geometry as well, rather than just square. By having that geometry already modeled in the sweep profile, you avoid having to go back and add it to the square groove you cut with an offset. Lastly, he said this was to be sort of an introduction to using sweep. I would have constrained the center of the groove profile to the center of the groove face rather than a dim from the edge, but otherwise this is a good way to do it.

Lars, how do you measure the groove so you buy the correct length o-ring?
I do not know how Lars would do that but I tried Inspect / Measure selecting the O-ring body. This delivers the area to calculate back the length of the cylinder. Alternatively you look into properties of the component O-ring

I have a question though, I did a sketch I meant to put on the centre plane but instead did it on the face/edge of the box, how would I move that sketch to the centre plane without deleting and redrawing?

I'll try to catch part 2 live but in case I don't... I would expect to need to design the groove to fit some existing o-ring length, not be just some arbitrary length. I realize using a cut gasket would simplify this but the title is "o-ring" ;)

I have never designed something for a specific o-ring length. You can easily order this stuff in whatever length you need. Or, as I have done one low quantity part. Cut to length and then good old super clue.

Hi Lars, Just wanted to ask if I wanted to make a box with removable inside partitions, how do I go about designing the removable partition. The web feature automatically make same solid, it would be good to have an option to have a separate body after web operation.

I know this is an old video now but out of interest how would you work out what size oring would fit in the grove. As obviously they are round (length that is not CSA)

It's interesting doing these videos 4 or 5 years later after the developers have changed some core functions of the software, like the fact that the shell command no longer likes it when you do this, it fails. For me, I would rather filet the sketch in the beginning than after the extrude. Can't filet the corners of a center rectangle to 12 for some reason though.
I wonder if it's because it would not be able to hold constant thickness if your sketch has the 12 radius. Everything has to solve in the end.

Newbie question - why does my work space look different, i have create instead of model and i don't have a sketch section. Also when you have created the box you press q and your box rotates to an angle so you can view the extrusion unfortunate mine does not its stays flat so i have to rotate the origin to see it.

I would love to see you do some tutorials with the woodworker in mind. Furniture and Cabinet building and or some small woodworking projects. Lar explains every move he is making in Fusion 360 in a slow and methodical manner that allows a new user to better understand his moves. I will check the DN Handcrafted video ....... When you press Q for press/pull how does it automatically got to an orthographic kinda view? Mine just stays there and i have to orbit.
Having some problems... the web command to create divisions are not working as shown. I don't get the blue arrow pointing upwards, its always to the side (parallel to plane) and when I pull it, it just creates a flat face. I have tried flip direction in the tool settings but get this error: The Rib can not be created. Ensure profile curve can intersect body, or flip the direction.
Got it! Looks like i wasn't sketching on the face but on the plane...

The best resource is the Parker O-ring Handbook. For each oring material they sell, the publish the dimensions of the male and female part for static or dynamic sealing. It's best to pick an available oring and design your part to the grove dimensions they spec.

what is the device on the back, the one with a screen, metal finish ?

Fairly new to Fusion 306. I modeled a drawer assy similar to the one you did. I now want to generate an independent copy of the entire assy, but to now avail. I tried copy and paste new, but the new copy still affects the other copy when the new component is changed. It is not unique or independent. Is there another way to make an independent copy of and individual component and/or an assy? I also tried making a new component from the parent and dragging the other components into that one to eliminate clutter in the outline tree but couldn't do that either. Can you give some help on these? Thanks..
Hi! Just paste it as "paste new" and not as "paste", so it will generate an independent copy of it and any new changes will not affect each other. I hope it helps.
Thanks, I did that (paste new) but it did not create an independent copy. So when I made a change to the component, the other one changed too. Maybe it had some constraints that prevented the original component from becoming and independent one?? If so I don't know how to see and delete those constraints.

Thanks for all your informative videos. I understand about copy and paste new, but when I selected the first component in a drawer assy (with dovetails) and did the copy and paste new, it did not make an independent copy....very frustrating as to why.

I don't know why your videos' quality is getting lower gradually. Couple years ago used to be 1080p, but now 720p. Kinda devolution instead. :)
Make sure you check the gear icon in the lower right of your window. RUclips will lower the resolution if they sense an unstable connection
@@cadcamstuff I don't think that's the issue. I am getting the same problem, but in the resolution list - 720p is the max we can get for this video - not a problem for your most recent clips.
To be honest, even at 720p it looks like 320p (for live video, screen capture seems ok). I would assume it's Lars's camera that is not that sharp as we would expect. All his streams seems to be out of focus and blurry. But as long as screen is sharp I don't mind seeing blurry face talking ;-)

Very good tutorial but for someone who does not speak your language you speak too much
I really appreciate your tutorials but sometimes as a beginner it's hard to follow along because you will say to do a particular thing and then you'll do it but you don't tell us what exactly it is you did to accomplish the task. I then have to pause the video, rewind, watch again trying to see where your mouse cursor is when you did what you did and then start just randomly pressing mouse and keyboard buttons trying to guess what you just did. Highly frustrating at times.
