    Pro Tip...you should have pre-spun the sensor in the opposite direction, the same number of turns it takes to tighten the sensor. By doing so, the sensor wiring will not end up all twisted up.

    We had this same problem on a 2016 Sprinter when the AdBlue warning and engine management light came on each trip after about 70 miles, and continued to limp mode. We called out Mercedes breakdown 4 times and took the van to our Mercedes main dealer where we spent several hundred pounds on their suggested cures. In spite of that, the problem continued. Having watched your video, we carried out your suggested cleaning of the Nox sensors which has completely cured the problem. Thank you for sharing this video and solving the problem with our van, at minimal expense.

    I used your procedure to clean Nox sensor on my low mileage Mercedes Vito crew van. Only hitch for me was getting the sensor out of the exhaust, I had one of the sensor extraction sockets but it was not a tight 22mm fit and turned on the sensor bolt, I was afraid of rounding the bolt. Eventually applied a little heat to the exhaust and it turned OK using an open 22mm spanner. The rest of the job went exactly as shown in the video. I found that the fault codes did not reset until I had taken the van for a run - about ten minutes - then they all reset and fault light now gone from the dash, also MPG has returned (increased) back to pre fault performance. Thanks for the video, simple to follow and saved me a lot of money had I taken to the dealer.

      I took me 20 miles, 1hr 20 or so of driving (lot of congestion here) or about 8 miles of steady driving with the sensor warmed up for the 'check anti-pollution system' error message to go away. (That's after replacing sensor, not just cleaning it).

    Great video! The reason for the increased fuel usage with a faulty NOx sensor is that the car will go into a fixed mode trying to reduse the NOx emissions. NOx is created by pressure and heat, running richer will cool of the engine and reduce NOx and that is what the car will do to mange legislation. A NOx sensor allowes the engine to run leaner.

The only thing I did different was use plastic baggies and twist ties around the sensors to hold the Injector Cleaner in place. Thank you for your video, the idea of just cleaning a carbon "infested" sensor for the 1/100's cost vs having the dealer replacing it really appealed to me. I own a 2014 GLK 250 with 50k on it. As the story goes the CEL light came on, scanned and found NOx sensor fault. I started removing it using an 18" bar and suddenly "successfully" snapped the removal tool into two pieces. What now - I was thinking. Well I resorted to my 14" pipe wrench which did the trick, no problem. I took both sensors out, soaked them for 24 hours, flushed and reinstalled them. I then turned the engine on, ran it but the CEL only would go out after erasing the fault code. So far so good after a week and 100 miles.
    I'm now a happy subscriber.

    I think one of those, the most rearward, is the soot sensor. The other is Bank 1 sensor 2. Bank 1 sensor 1 should be upstream. Also, the Mercedes diesel exhaust sensor are VERY fuel sensitive. If you use Top Tier brands of diesel, like Shell, Mobil, and Sunoco, you will have fewer problems. If you use cheap diesel from small stations, the fuel can be dirty with paraffins and other contaminants. These engines require the absolutely most clean full synthetic oils because if any soot escapes from lesser quality oils beyond the rings into the exhaust, it will foul the sensors. Even regular Mobil 1 is too dirty. If you know that even traces of Mobil 1 in the exhaust is too dirty and will foul the exhaust components, just think what dirty fuel will do from Bubba’s Truck Stop. Also, soak those sensors with PB Blaster overnight, start the car for 5 minutes, shut it off and soak it again with PB Blaster for a day. Then they will come off with a crescent wrench and a couple of hits with a hammer.

Third day, it went up past the 55 mph for a couple minutes and then gave me the warning and transitioned back to 55. Today, drove about 80 miles, no emissions warning, no reduced speed! At first i was hesitant to bother and just buy a new sensor but with 220K on the truck, what did i have to lose! So far, it might have fixed it!

      Bob - i have a 2012 silverado 3500hd with dura 6.6 LML. only 90,000. just got the service emissions warning, 175 miles til limp. put a reader on it & i'm getting the p2200, 2201,2202 all indicating nox sensor 1 bank 1. my problem is that i live over 200 miles from dealer. was wondering if this worked for you. after cleaning your nox 1 did it indeed clear itself and has it come back? did you have to clear codes manually or did it do it on it's own? man i hate how hard these 'newer:)' trucks are to work on. thanks - barbie

    The Lucas oil is designed to break down the carbon in systems when it is mixed with gasoline/diesel, atomized, and burned. It has no effect on parts soaking in it. The only thing that is removing the sensor carbon buildup in this video is a few seconds of Carb Cleaner that is being sprayed into the sensor. Don’t waist your time and money soaking it in Lucas oil, just spray it with cleaner and blow it out with compressed air.

    Hi buddy, I got a c220d
    Nox sensor issue started 3 years ago and Mercedes accepted liability and replaced. It then needed replacing 2 more times within 2 years. But the third time they made an excuse telling me that the ad blu was contaminated (no idea how) and that may be causing the issue and they didn’t replace.
    Do you think cleaning the sensors will be better or having the nox sensor and the ad blu mapped out of the system would be better(assuming they won’t effect the performance of the car)
    Thanks

    • @millerfamilyfarmtrust6515
      @millerfamilyfarmtrust6515  Год назад +1

      @TheJewelleryWorkshop
      Well, its hard to tell what is causing the issue if it has been replaced that often but as long as Mercedes is willing to keep replacing the sensor, I would let them. Also, there are Lemon Laws that come in to play on items that keep failing time and time again. Mercedes generally will stand by thier repair even after warranty period if they have repaired it once as their view point is it wasnt repaired properly or you would be back with the same issue. I know its frustrating but as long as Mercedes is still swapping out the sensor, why not let them and you can always go the route of Lemon Law if all else fails becuase this is a common problem that has not been dealth with properly. Yes...those nuts are extremely tight as you seen in the video. I was told by another viewer, to start the car and let it come up to temperature and it can help with getting it loose. Really hard to tell as the NOX sensors are "Plug-N-Play" and just need to reset the computer to let it know there is a new sensor. Sometimes, its a good idea to take it to a real Mercedes dealer to diagnose and give you a quote to fix. You can then jut tell the dealer you will need to come back when you have enough money or use the information to fix the underlying problem. Good luck!!

    I am trying that and will see if it works. It is the second time in 2 years we have the nox sensor check engine in 2-3 years and wondering if it is caused by not using the mercedez bluetec. I am using DEF that is supposed to be meeting the iso standard specified by mercedez but do you think it might be the caused or am I just unlucky. Just because of the sensor this 250 bluetec is a nightmare. And Mercedez service is absolutely atrocious. They will charge me 1 hour labor just to diagnose, so about 200 $. Then then probably 1000$ to fix.

    has an electrical fault) And P13DF09. (The adblue system has a malfunction there is a component fault ) and P2BA901! The car drives absolutely fine is this something I could fix any help would be much appreciated or could I use this same cleaning method mabe to clean it

      Welcome Dzgdot,
      I would recommend googling the fault codes to see exactly what we are dealing with and if it is sensor related in the exhaust system. Once you know for sure what you are dealing with then you can google the sensor that is malfunctioning and see if it is the same sensor location that is in this video and if it is, then you can try the simple procedure in the video. OBD2 Diagnostic Trouble Code P220E means that NOx Sensor Heater Control Circuit Range/Performance, Bank 1 Sensor 1 has been detected.
      It appears to be a NOx Sensor issue and you could do this simple fix and see if it resolves your problem and while you are doing this procedure, you can also check the connections as well.
