    I have an answer for you:
    The reason 3-5, especially offsuit, is called "The slingshot" is because players who cold-call pre-flop raises with that hand got hit in the head as children by a rock, apple or some other item launched from a slingshot, thus explaining their play of this objectively terrible hand.
    2 videos in, and the quality of your low-stakes poker analysis is unmatched by any other vlogger. I've recommended your channel to every aspiring player I know, including my own poker students.

    The intro resonated to me as I've had something similar, called it quits at about '14. GF turned into a wife, two kids, completed university and landed in a decent job. Wasn't quite as successful as you but managed to scrape together about a 100k USD at small stakes cash games playing a some hundreds of hours a year. Eventually came to the same conclusion as you though and focused on the family. I've always felt that I didn't fully exhaust my potential and occasionally have similar thoughts that it's now or never. Did login into my old PS account the other day to see that it's not quite as busy as it used to be. It's unfortunate that many countries passed legislation to segregate their markets out of global player pool and I guess the golden days have passed. But I've to say now that I'm approaching 40, that the teachings from poker, the importance of decision making and the process, avoiding result oriented thinking and the ability to withstand emotional pressure is great benefit in the "standard" business environment as well. But anyway, liked and subscribed already after the first vid. I'll be rooting for you and greetings from Finland!

    Thanks for being willing to vlog from the cheap seats. I wish you much success. The game has changed so much in the last decade. 10 years ago, I was crushing the small stakes as a pretty solid rec player when I would go to Vegas. Dealers were telling me under their breath that I was really killing it. Now, with all the solvers and live content, jeez, I gotta tell you I don't know if it's ALL skill, or some amount of variance and downswing, but I seem to get my ass handed to me at every table when I go to Vegas. People are just better than they used to be. I look forward to seeing where your return to poker takes you.

    Seeing you cash out for a >100bb profit is a good lesson. Sometimes I have a difficult time leaving when I'm up. In a lot of sessions I'll swing up over 300-500bb, and then play too long and stack off down to breakeven or a loss. It's hard to set a ~100bb goal when you see a couple racks in front of you almost every night, but I think it's important even if it's less exciting.

    • @kevin.eyring
      @kevin.eyring  3 месяца назад +3

      It would say it’s even tougher leaving when you’re slightly down. It’s easy to leave when you’ve lost a lot, because there’s an existential force telling you to do so. When you’re down 25bb, it’s very difficult to leave because you’re basically giving up and deciding to lose that day, whereas the former that decision has kind of been made for you.

    • @toddfromwork8931
      @toddfromwork8931 3 месяца назад +1

      @@kevin.eyring Yeah it's hard to time your exits on your own terms. I guess it's a discipline thing. Sometimes I try to set a profit goal, but I don't think that's realistic for a game of variance. A lot of the time I leave when I start to feel tired or bored. • @kevin.eyring
      @kevin.eyring  3 месяца назад +1

      Thank you! I do not count tips. I mainly tip $1/hand no matter how small, and a little larger on big pots, and leave something for the cage at the end of the session. For example: if I buyin for $300, cash out for $504, but I’ve tipped $20 over the course of the session, the $20 tips at the table is already accounted for, and $4 goes in the basket for the cage, leaving $200 profit. That make sense?

    19:03 Can you explain to me what such small betsize on this river accomplishes in this hand?
    I would assume that you should bet bigger to fold out Qx, especially a somewhat decent Qx with a spade in his hand.
    Your opponent only having check called the turn and checking the river seems very capped to a Qx holding at best (because if he had a flush or better he would have put more money in on either the turn or river)
    I know by your opponent's speech on the river that he isn't strong
    (because acting strong means weak) but still i think a bigger bet on the river to let him fold Qx is necessary.
    Your thoughts?
    Nice vlog.

    That card club forgot The Cincinnati Kid poster with Steve McQueen. An all-time classic. Rounders is great, but can't forget the early classics! Maverick is another great watch with Mel Gibson, James Garner, Jodi Foster, and lots of other colorful riverboat gamblers....and the 'river' which is where you lose and end up over the rail and in the drink; hence the term 'river' ('turn' is from the 'bend'). Riverboat card games were the cheaters "bread and butter", but to get away once the mechanic was caught they often only had that one extreme option for escape. 🤠💦..."Moist it is fellas! Come and get me...the water's warm! 💨Wheeeeee!".
