This is a great collaboration between Home Free & The Oak Ridge Boys. "Elvira" was a huge hit for The Oakridge Boys in 1981. You can see the great respect these 2 groups have for each other. The Oakridge Boys are mentors to Home Free & it is like they are passing the baton to a younger version of themselves. They have performed together on the Grand Ole Opry. Adam Rupp's vocal percussion is the best in the business. He can simulate drums & any other sounds perfectly. Home Free is my favorite a cappella group. They are so talented yet very humble guys.
The Oak Ridge Boys and The Statler Brothers both influenced Tim's approach to music. Both groups were very popular in the 80s with their country/gospel music.
I'm 54 and the Oakridge boys were a staple of my childhood. This song in particular was fun as we tried with our pre-pubescent voices to mimic the giddy-up bass part. I never imagined that as an adult that part would be within my range! I love this collaboration.
When you stop to consider Richard Sterban is 81 and Tim Foust is in his 40s, Richard was born in NJ and Tim in Texas, would give their voices a different quality. They all sound wonderful. This looks like such a fun song for them.
The Oak Ridge Boys have been around for quite some time. Geoff Castelluci worked on the arrangement for this video. They mention it at the end of the video. Great reactions! Have a great day!
Great reaction!! The Oak Ridge Boys are Mentors to Home Free.Home Free and The Oak Ridge Boys sang another song together with Jeffery East called Beautiful Star Of Bethlehem. The Oak Ridge Boys are a Country/Gospel group started in 1943 in Oak Ridge Tennessee with the name Oak Ridge Quartet became popular Southern Gospel Singers in the 1950’s.Their group name changed to The Oak Ridge Boys in the 1960’s they sang gospel till the 1970’s then changed to country/gospel.They released Elvira in 1981 Here’s a list of the Oak Ridge Boys Duane Allen (lead singer) sitting next Rob Joe Bonsall ( Tenor) next to Austin William Lee Golden (Baritone) White long beard Richard Sterban (Bass) Sang as bass for Elvis for 2 yrs 1971/1972
Richard Sterban was the bass singer for The Oakridge Boys. He also sang with Elvis every night on stage, recorded with him, and appeared in one of his movies.
A huge statement has been reinforced numerous times over the last half dozen years when notorious artists have collaborated with Home Free in singing legacy hits and in several cases have reached out to Home Free. Home Free has shown extraordinary respect to these artists to the point there is mutual respect and admiration that is very visible both ways. Home Free is a very humble group of guys who know how to pay their respects as they showcase these well-respected and well-known artists. Just wow, and we are the benefactors of this wonderful trust as they deliberately give each other and us a chance to enjoy once again a freshness to the decades that gone on before us with a wonderful tribute. Home Free is showing the industry a strong core value of High Regard, Strong Consideration, Attentiveness, High Opinion, and Due Regard for those who have set the stage for the music we enjoy today. Thank You Home Free, for your leadership by action that we all admire and appreciate doing things the right way!!!!!❣
The Oak Ridge Boys have been around for 45-50 years. I was either in my late teens to early twenties when Elvira came out. Back then we had lots of crossover music, so it was played on both country and rock stations. Home Free does a Christmas song with TOB, too. The older guys said they felt like they were handing over the baton to a new generation. Austin had that autographed shirt framed and hung it in his house. Tim said in an interview that he feels pretty masculine most days, but he was intimidated by TOB’s bass. It’s always helpful when you pick out individual items to listen for!
Love this cover and a Geoff Castellucci arrangement. Tim gives Geoff and VoicePlay a shout out at the end of the video. Geoff is a big fan of Tim Foust the bass of Home Free.
The Oak Ridge Boys started out as The Oak Ridge Quartet over 100 years ago. A A capella barber shop quartet, in the 60's (or 70's, I'm not sure) they added instruments to make their music more marketable to mainstream labels, but kept their A capella style throughout. They are one of the all time greatest country groups. Hope you do check them out, and that you enjoy.
This song was a huge hit for the Oak Ridge Boys back in the 80s, and they STILL sound amazing! Richard Sterban, the Oaks bass singer, used to sing with Elvis.
This is such a great collaboration! The passing of the torch from one generation to the next! Home Free recently collaborated with Don MacLean on Vincent and it is awesome! Thank you for your reaction!
ORB are members of both the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Richard Sterben (forgive me, Tim & Harold Reid RIP) has always been my favorite bass.
This really gives me the sense of "Home Free Past" meeting "Oak Ridge Boys future". The ORB's bass, Richard Sterban, sang bass for Elvis Presley early in his career. Home Free definitely collaborated with true country legends on this song--and I LOVE this collaboration❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ #HomeFree #OakRidgeBoys
They are still doing this in their live shows - and Adam is still excellent in it. Well, in all he does, but ... Tim's voice has grown over the last 10 years, too. The Oak Ridge Boys gave HF credibility in the country music space by their 'adoption' and promotion of HF. They welcomed them on their stage, they gave them equal billing at a time when they would have been ecstatic at being third or fourth billing. Th ORB are on their good-bye tour right now, but their tenor had to step down during it, his health wouldn't let him continue the tour. HF did a collaboration with the ORB and Jeffrey East (someone else you should check out) on Beautiful Star of Bethlehem during their Warmest Winter TV special - find the video and enjoy Jeffrey and Austin in their solo parts.
This was a big hit for the Oaks about 50 years ago. Such a nice collaboration. They have another song that’s live during Christmas called Star of Bethlehem. They really like each other. You should listen to one of Adam’s drum solos. I’m partial to one from 2015. It’s older but it’s just him and a mike doing drums. Tim has a lot of fun with this song when they’re live. He gets the audience to participate and goes really low. Richard Sterban the bass for the Oaks sung with Elvis I’m told. Good one!
This one makes my heart happy. Ive saw the Oak Ridge Boys in concert when i was about 15 and again in my 40's. I was thrilled when i learned Home Free sang with them. Richard Sterban is the Oakridge Boys bass and joined them in the early 70's ,I believe. Thanks for the Home Free reactions!
Please, allow me to specify. It's just I'm quite ORB experienced. Richard joined the Oaks in October of 1972, after leaving the Stamps Quartet. So happy he did! Sorry Elvis. lol
The collaboration of Home Free & the legendary Oak Ridge Boys is epic! The singing and harmonies are terrific & Adam's crazy beatboxing is incomparable. They have another collaboration on "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" that's jaw-dropping. Although I'm sure their newest member, Adam Bastien, will be great, Austin Brown is going to be a tough act for him to follow. Thanks for playing this & your comments.
I'm really going to miss Austin but I am looking forward to seeing the new Adam this October. He's not really new though. He was part of Home Free, either an original member of very early in their days. Plus he was part of 7th Ave, the group Chris and his sister Tristin Rupp had right after he left. So Adam Bell-Bastien is just a member coming back home.
Yes, I made a recommendation earlier for Richard.... but SO true that "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" is a "knock out" song. Their harmony on that particular song is much more distinctive. First time I heard it, I became very emotional. Seeing I am a huge admirer of the Oaks, when I see the amount of respect given to them in that Christmas song... it's something special. Home Free were gentlemen enough to give the lead to the Oaks, while taking care of the beautiful surrounding harmonies. PLS DO listen hun, you WON'T regret it!
Grew Up with the Oak Ridge Boys in the 80s, especially growing up in Knoxville, TN and Oak Ridge, TN being about a half-hour drive from Knoxville, and where my dad worked until we moved in the mid-80s.
Another collaboration with a very famous country star is with Kenny Rogers and the song Children Go Where I Send Thee! They have many other collaborations as well. Great reaction!
Oakridge Boys still have it when they sing. Oakridge Boys and Home Free did a great job on this song together. Adam did a great job on beatboxing. Adam is the best beatboxer. The harmonies are great. I love Austin's high tenor. Oakridge Boys been around for a long time. I like your reactions to this song with Home Free and Oakridge Boys. Elvira 😊❤❤❤❤❤❤
I believe the ORB go back to the 50's ... Mostly gospel through time till this configuration and about 1977/78ish? I think. And this song really took off from that time --- and these fine gents have had hit after hit since (basically); Elvira really put 'em on the map --- Richard's bass (over from Elvis' group and JD Sumner) has been the measure since that very song! Awesome & Epic! Be Safe
Look at the lowest picture on the column behind the Oaks singer on the far left (between Rob and Adam) every now and then, the picture is tilted, is straightened, and then tilts again. 😅
Thank you very much for your reaction. Been a huge fans of the Oaks since late 1970's. To really get the grasp of Richard Sterban's talent as a Bass singer, I always recommend listening to "Dream On" (live or album). Not every good bass man can sing lead and/or romantic songs, but HE can. As you noticed, he might not be lowest of singers, but he used to be able to hit an Eb1 from his chest voice with no "Fry" whatsoever (see link). He never used any vocal fry, which is why I am totally impressed and view him as my favorite Basso Profundo singer. Cheers & ty again. ruclips.net/video/ZVLpEDwgdpM/видео.html - Live/Might be pre-recorded.
Mr. Bonsall was 76 and had been with the Oak Ridge Boys for 50 years. They are all legends even for someone like me who doesn't know much about country music.
If you want to hear Home Free when all five sing, How Great Thou Art is a good one. Song and video are great. You will also get to hear Adam Rupp in a brief solo.

Love all the comments about Adam ❤❤
Good reaction! Love Home Free!
Using chocolate as an analogy is great. Since Chance joined I've said his voice is like melted chocolate that whispers!! Nana Karen UK
Yeah, and I prefer "dark" chocolate myself... ;)
Excellent reaction
The Oak Ridge Boys have been singing since the 50's. There have been a number personal changes
Look at the lowest picture on the column behind the Oaks singer on the far left (between Rob and Adam) every now and then, the picture is tilted, is straightened, and then tilts again. 😅
Adam Rupp is very talented with his beatboxing! Have you listened to see shanty medley yet?… He does with the cast net sound beatboxing as well!!
How nice to see you again. Thanks for the reaction. I missed you.
These guys are incredible. This collaboration is awesome! Love your analysis and reaction!
Thanks so much!!

I grew up with the Oak Ridge Boys
Great reaction!
Thank you!! 😁
If you want to hear Home Free when all five sing, How Great Thou Art is a good one. Song and video are great. You will also get to hear Adam Rupp in a brief solo.
They were originally a Christian group. But yes around a long time.
❤️❤️
You really need to listen to Adam Rupp's drum solo
Just look up Adam Rupp drumsolo.
You like key changes, eh? May I suggest the Pentatonix version of "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" from The Lion King?
the Oakridge boys were the ordinal artists for elvira
3 time world champion beat boxer - Adam Rupp
Nope. Adam has never entered a beatboxing championship contest. I will agree that Adam is the best in the a capella world.
