I learned how to workout properly when I was a kid by reading bodybuilding mags. Slow and controlled negative reps and explosive positive reps is how I've always done it but over the years watching people do "bro" reps or half reps for the entirety of their workout started confusing the shit outta me to the point where I wasn't sure who was right and who was wrong. In other words, I'm very thankful to have found this channel and that it exists. I feel whole again.

Nice. Sounds like you followed some Mike Mentzer...with the slower reps. Some of the big names dont like the slower reps and say it can cause an injury..forget who that was. I think Lee Haney. MM was all ab High intensity and then a lil more down time for the recovery, then growth and full system rest. Can also do longer time under tension, but main thing is what works for the individual and how you react and grow. As Mike said, you want to the the right amount to initiate the muscle growth. Main thing is lifting more at next session or another rep at same weight. Whatever that takes, is what is best for the person. I lose motivation i guess, but have been sticking with a split program now for a bit since i was forbidden to lift after a corneal transplant back in May. Using Rocky and Rocky II albums to give me a boost. Always loved the bodybuilding mags and workin on physique but takes dedication...serious dedication.

There is a debate about legumes. Main problem is: the amount of proteins is good, but there are mediocre type of amino acids. Soya is enemy nr 1 there - lots of useless (from muscle building point of view) amino acids, that can't be used in muscle building - bad aminograme. And still you must digest all of it and take care of rather bad byproducts of digesting proteins.

    • @dianapennepacker6854

Milk is god damn God tier ounce for ounce nutritionally. Few things just in general compare to milk.
I'm terminally ill. Had people try to get me off it for some Nut Juice. (Nuts don't have teets. You crush them. Juice!! Not milk!)
Anyway thing is. None of them compare or are misleading, because you actually have to absorb it. Looking at you pea milk..
Then we are figuring out fat from dairy isn't as bad as we thought.
Oh fun fact. Skim milk hydrates you the best according to science after a long physical activity.
It even beats our pedialyte. Turns out all the macros and micro nutrients help, and work together for your body to recover. Although I don't remember if the studies knew what milk exactly had that others don't.
List went Pedialyte, sports drinks, coconut milk and water melon juice, freshly squeezed juices, and then and only thenl water. Which I think was mineral, and not bottled.
Then bottled water. Then Tea, coffee and I think beer made the list somehow.
They did mention full milk was great too, but forgot where on the list it fell.
Just an other reason why milk rocks. For those who are lactose? And those who aren't but want protein? Both Fairlife and Lactaid Protein have 3 grams more protein, are lactose intolerant, and taste basically the same. No difference to me outside a slight texture with Lactaid.
You can even use them in cooking the same. I highly recommend both. Fairlife has less carbs than normal milk too with more vitamin A, and is thinner than Lactaid.
Anyway thought I'd share. Just google "Skim milk found to hydrate the best."
Oh by the way to be fair to other drinks. This was after long physical activities. Probably don't need it while sitting in an office, and forgot to drink.

    • @MB-gm6kg
      @MB-gm6kg 10 месяцев назад +5

Soya chunks (textured soy protein) is the number one I would say - 100g has 350kcal and 50-55g protein. A lot of the staples of Indian cuisine are also great: mung beans, cowpea, soybeans, chickpeas, etc. (Usually around 20-27g protein & 300-400kcal per 100g)
Also, soy milk - I literally drink 1 litre of soy milk a day which has 280kcal and 30g protein.
Cereal grains like oats, rye, and other whole grains in moderation are also good.
When bulking, seeds and nuts are good sources of protein, but due to their high fat content and caloric density, are not suitable when cutting.

Tofu isn't great for protein; I would recommend textured soy protein (soya chunks). It's basically heat extruded soybean meal after soybean oil has been extracted. 100g of the stuff has 50-55g protein and less than 350kcal. Only problem is it doesn't taste as good as tofu. It's also cheaper than tofu, especially if you buy it in bulk from Asian grocery stores.

The scientific opinions are all over the place. I've eaten it sporadically my whole life and never felt ill health. I would avoid fry-lite and those cheaper oils because they're generally lower quality and only useful for deep frying anyway.

So I don’t eat meat or dairy, and finding whole food plant based sources of protein hasn’t been hard necessarily but it was when i was trying to get into a caloric deficit… I had to eat A LOT without having to drink a protein shake every evening. Which I’m not a fan of sweets so that got old really fast. And I don’t like tofu. But now that I am just a couple percentage points from where i want to be as far as body fat goes, I get to eat a ton of food and still seemingly maintain. It would be easier to just eat meat but it’s a moral decision for me.
The biggest increase I saw was actually when I started taking creatine. I didn’t know vegans and vegetarians are seriously lacking in creatine since we don’t eat meat. So after say a month of a solid pre workout meal + drink w creatine, and monitoring my protein intake with majority healthy Whole Foods ( I do eat impossible burgers and meat substitutes that would be considered processed foods, like beyond meats “steak” tips, impossible chicken tenders, Gardein turky or fish, tofurkey ham roast, impossible sausage patties, and various vegan cheeses - not much tho bc of sat fat content percentages ) and yeah, after that month I saw more gains and was able to hit bigger weights than the 3 months before that combined. Not sure if it was the diet and the creatine finally catching up or if it would have occurred regardless, but i was really happy with the results.
I feel like I’m currently plateauing, but I think that’s more due to old hip and elbow injuries that don’t allow for full range of motion under heavy load. Hopefully once I get some stability and mobility/stretching exercises down then I can up the weight. Just scared I’m aggravating these tears in my labral joints in my hips when squatting, leg press, deadlift, anything that involves an almost full range of motion. And my max bench press (1/2 my body weight… weak I know) has shown me my arm not being able to extend as long as the other one (airbag snapped my arm in half at the elbow, had screws and plates in there holding it together) causes a lot of sway to my right side.
I go to PT for the hip currently while waiting on potential surgery but he doesn’t know a thing about weighifting, so he can’t really give me advice on what to do. I watch a lot of Squat University videos tho, thank goodness for RUclips.
To anyone who read all that mess, thanks for listening ❤

I'm vegan myself for ethical reasons. Textured soy protein (soya chunks) is my go-to when cutting. 100g has about 50-55g protein and less than 350kcal. Very cheap too, especially if you buy it in bulk from Asian grocery stores. Only problem is it can be quite bland, but does absorb a lot of water, so if you are good with using spices and South Asian cooking you can make it delicious!

i believe milk is mostly saturated fat, so low-fat milk is the way to go for protein.
also, soy milk is high in protein, no saturated fat, no cholesterol, and high in flavonoids.

@@eternallyminded7 Because they started out eating much worse. Then they ate less because of the hunger suppression ketosis has. Losing excess fat makes them overall healthier, and you haven't done it long enough to see the pitfalls. Like rock bottom testosterone, lack of electrolyte retention no matter how much salt you eat.. list goes on. I used to do it and am doing better with high carb, real foods made from scratch. Soups, stews, oatmeal, fruit, and leaner meat or dairy if any. The family members that would eat butter or fat are the ones getting heart attacks, the ones that used olive oil and less saturated fat like cheese because of lactose intolerance, one's still driving and living alone at 92.
