Nice! These lenses are so much fun to work with. The 50-100 is a built like a tank, but the 18-35 you have to check every now and then for the screws on the focus ring that attach it to the hard-stop mechanism. They can become loose. Best thing to do is take it apart and do it yourself so you can thread the screws deeper into the mechanism and you're good to go!
Great video. Just wanted to add this: T-Stop is the actual measurement of light passing thru the lens while the F-Stop is simply a mathematical equation. So one basically calculates the f-stop and then measures the t-stop based on that. Cheers 😊
@@8lec_R Correct me if I'm wrong but T-stops isn't based off f-stops, but actually measuring the light passing through the glass. That's the point of T-stops, which is to match exposure when changing lenses or between cameras. It's a standard with scientific measurements. A Canon T2 will look exactly as bright as the Sigma T2 even if their optics and coatings are different. A poorly made f/2.8 lens could very well have a T4 or T5.6 if the coatings/elements are bad (like in cheap photo lenses)
@@professionalpotato4764 yea. You are 100% right Maybe I didn't phrase it correctly. What I'm trying to say is that the t-stop uses the same equations that are used in the calculation of the f-stop. Except when calculating t-stop, light transmission is taken into consideration
The best way to check breathing is if you use higher t/f stop of the lens, so the bokeh is not that pronounced, while the breathing is 😉 Man I’m in love with my Panasonic S PRO lenses as there is literally no breathing and all of them are parfocal as well, not mentioning the focus clutch and the adjustable linear throw. I know that the dimensions of those lenses are differen, so we can’t replace them easily like other brands cinema lineup lensest, but besides that, Panasonic did a really great job with those lenses. An oh well, they are also autofocus capable, let’s hope Pany will come out with more decent focusing methods...
I ended up going with the DZO Pictors just because of how long the wait got when I reached out to for the re-housed sigmas. Hopefully that's changed, COVID has slowed down so much.
Have you used the official sigma ones? Because at least from my experience in the early days, none of the rehouse was really parfocal. The Sigma official are though. I mean both lenses are T2...and have a F/2 aperture. One is measurement of the transmission of light, and other is the size of the opening. So it should be exactly the same...no?
Nope. f stop is the ratio of size of front element to the back opening (aperture blades). So if the Sigma 18-35 Cine uses the exact same glass with the exact same front element, it's still a f/1.8 cine lens. Just marked in T-stops since that's what filmmakers use.

@@professionalpotato4764 anyone that cares about light transmission uses transmission stops. Not only filmmakers. My point here is that they called it F2 instead of F1.8 which is a bit odd. As you say it is just a mathematical size, so has no reflection on the transmission. Some F2.8 lenses have 4.2 as their T-stop. Not ideal but true.
Lol i'm dumb. "Iris, aperture, and focus.." Totally meant to say "Zoom, aperture, focus" - and just noticed after watching.. oh well.
LOL it happens...
You can actually take apart the end of the Sigma 18-35mm and twist the end piece around to make it parfocal.

Everyone should own at least 1 cine lens, just to use it and experience it. They're fantastic.
Hi, are you still
Using this lens? If so, how had has it stood the test of time? Or if not, what made you get rid of it?
Yup, I need that. Can I send my lens in to be rehoused or do they only sell ones they already did?
You can send your own in!

Parfocal! I didn’t know that term, but I remember it from the old video camera days of zooming in, focusing, and then recording.
Looking at one of these! Great little review Tommy! That 5% will come in handy!

That thing is so cool! Great video Tommy!
Thanks Kris! Glad to see other talented creators stopping by - love your work!
you had me at parfocal. still a lot of money and the font choice isn’t great. but it is dope !
"If you want clout on Instagram...LOL!" 👍
Do you have actual test footage for it ?
I ended up going with the DZO Pictors just because of how long the wait got when I reached out to for the re-housed sigmas. Hopefully that's changed, COVID has slowed down so much.
The wait on mine was still about a month.. had it since about December.
@@TommyCallaway They were telling me three months at one point, one month is a cake walk in comparison.
One could also use the full frame Sigma ART 24-35mm f2 via an MC-11 adapter
That’s a beautiful option! I’m in love with cine lenses! Nice to see you man. Keep rocking
Thanks Ruben! Likewise. It's my favorite "looking" lens.. perhaps next up would be the probe lens, it's just so unique.
what a coincidence I have an 18-35 that is mint, and was thinking of selling it.. but it still has the vignetting after the conversion?
Such a great comparison!!
Thanks Jake!
not gonna lie, the look of it definitely does appeal more than it probably should lol. probably gonna pick one up though!
I should also mention you can get the body in a a really bright red color too.. it. sounds silly, but looks awesome.
Do you know if does work with a poket 4k with a focal reducer?
Yes, should be the same thing as like a gh5 and reducer, both are m43 sensors if I’m not mistaken. Sigma 18-35 is a popular lens for the bmpcc4k.
@@TommyCallaway Cool is the same. If PCHood does work in yor focal reducer for the GH5 should work for the Poket 4k!
Curious to know if the lens would work on a BMPC 6K Pro, I’ve checked the website but it’s not very clear if it’s compatible.
Cinema lenses are measured with the transmission of light and quantified with T stops. So does PCHood do additional customization to get T stops?
Would be really interesting if you had compared it to the original signa cine as well
Would you say pulling focus is easier with this lens? Due to longer focus ring
Hey Tommy. Curious, Can I still use Circular screw-on filters on this mod? Thanks for the video!
That setup 🔥

Is this lens full frame? Or APS - c , I am Sony user ....
Super35. (aps-c).
is it possible to send them my copy of photo lens and convert it to cinema? ugh! I just bought it today...
Yeah, haha - you can, actually. :)
No. I spoke with them when I got my lens and they aren't accepting shipments at the moment because of COVID.
@@Aaron_Smith_OM Damn. I guess that changes things a bit. :(
You sold the RED? 😯
Yup. I'll be doing a produced video on "why" soon. I've talked about it on my live streams quite a bit.
