The Nazis gave albania Kosovo during the occupation which brought in many families. the remaining serbs were treated like third class citizens in theri own home. For all the people about the casualty ratio: the number this dude put on screen is incorrect. Yugoslavia lost fairly very few men in the initial invasion, barely more than the axis forces that invaded. It was the resistance fighting from afterwards until the end of the war that brought the number up to over half a million
No they still lost way more KIA than the invading axis forces, axis soldier casualties (missing wounded etc….)were 4000, Yugoslav dead alone were 5000.
The real war started only after the official capitulation!!! Hitler's attack in 1941 was also studied by the Americans in 1999, but they gave up the land attack because it was estimated that the federal army would offer too strong resistance and that it would result in a large number of American casualties.
Britain told Yugoslavia to fall back to a defensive line approximately the size of modern-day Serbia since this would realistically be the only way they could hold out for reinforcement to arrive from Greece. Yugoslavia refused, and then this happened
The Allies tried to get Yugoslavia to abandon most of its territory and pull back to Macedonia where they could link up with the Greeks. But the Yugoslavians felt honor bound to defend all of their territory even though they knew it was a hopeless fight.
