It describes how humans and other mammals (such as dogs and horses) maintain some variables within normal physiological values. That is, how the body controls blood pressure, volemia (the volume of extracellular fluid), sodium concentration (natremia, osmolarity), potassium concentration (kalemia), calcium concentration (calcemia), concentration of hydrogen ions (pH), glucose concentration (blood glucose), carbon dioxide concentration (blood pressure of CO2), oxygen concentration (blood pressure of O2) and body temperature. It is shown that the basis of all these regulations is to equate income with expenditures from the internal environment (the principle of balance).
