Lol. I saw a pilots log about potential problems with the plane once that reminds me of this. The pilot had written in the log -
"Sounds like mice banging on engine with hammer."
The mechanics replied to the log with -
"Found and took away hammer from mice". Lol. Still makes me smile but first time I saw it I just laughed. Especially cause it was 100% legit paperwork from Delta. Lol.

As I understand it, an STC is like finding not only the blueprint for a Ford F-150, but also the blueprint for the factory, the chemistry formula for the steel alloy for the frame and rubber and literally every scrap of science needed to make a Ford F-150.
Which is why an STC is so significant. It's not just the tech in question, but also the tertiary and secondary techs that come with it.

Yes. As I understand, it is unlocking a whole production chain. It does not mean you understand it or how you would go about to improve it (The last one is tech heresy anyway, so do not try!). But when you activate it, you know what to do.
I think it is meant to be vague on how it does it. Suggesting it everything from just a lot of blueprints and instructions, to a full-blown advanced AI that sets it all the steps for you as a hyper-advanced tutorial wizard.

Older cherub lore has it that, given that its 40k and things are bad, the infant mortality rate is so high. Meaning that all these dead infants unknowingly committed the sin of not giving the Emperor their life, so every dead infant was made into a cherub as a form of protection of their otherwise innocent soul so that they could serve the Emperor even though they never truly lived.

The scariest thing about the flood is the fact they both A) learn everything from things they infect and B) are older then the forerunners mean that at their peak they can use the "it's basically magic" tech of the precursors. 1 spore can doom a world and if the imperium dosent IMMEDIATELY exterminatus that planet the flood WILL win full stop

Just a little fyi for the mechanicus game, a really important thing to do is that when you find those terminals that give you currency when you scan them you can and should also destroy them afterwards to also reduce the awakening, this will both make the current mission you're on easier and also let you do more things and pick up more power ups before having to continue the story because the global awakening reached 100. When i played i kitted out a priest with as many movement buffs as possible and gave him the skill that boosts movement when only wielding melee weapons (the arc scourge counts as melee) and his only job was to run up to a terminal, scan it, smash it and go back out. As far as gear goes you can pick and mix the clothing and weapons and stuff like that to your heart's content but i have two very big pieces of advice. First of all, try to find AoE weapons as soon as possible. They really make things easier for you since plenty of enemies like scarabs come in high quantities but aren't too big themselves, and also even a weak aoe is enough to kill a downed necron, and also most aoe weapons have a single damage value that they apply to all enemies so things like canticles and blessings will boost that attack on *all* targets, aka a blessing that will turn a 10 damage single shot attack into a 20 damage single shot attack will also turn a 3 damage aoe into a 13 damage aoe. Secondly (might be even more important), if you find a mission that gives "cognition mechadendrites" as a reward do that mission *immediately* and then equip one of those bitches on each and every single one of your soldiers *immediately*. They reeeally help with the CP economy (especially lvl 2 or lvl 3 dendrites) thus letting you pack more guns and bigger guns and use more special abilities and let you go completely nova with everyone on your team on a single turn, which often trivializes encounters.

I kinda have to make a comment on the nuclear stuff I'm not extremely informed on the topic but I am aware that well we're on the cusp of fusion reactors right now, we also have a breeder and recycler reactors in the fission department that no one is talking about. It might be hey stay away from this thing for so many generations and then throw it in this old reactor that is designed to react with that stage of the isotope as far as our actual long term storage in dealing with the repercussions of our early research goes. If we don't even progress to the point where what we consider unprocessable nuclear waste now goes the same way as yesteryear's radioactive carbon waste. (Seriously look this stuff up we're starting to take old waste and being able to power newer reactors with it, a lot of these newer reactors need a little bit of uranium to get the magic going but once it's going we're throwing in "waste" as the main fuel source.)
What I'd want to do for a long lasting tech knowledge retaining religion/ implant into religion, is how to operate the recyclers and the safer reactors. We've got some these days that don't generate a lot of power but literally can't melt down because physics, setting up future generations being able to know how to turn those on in an emergency and how to feed the byproducts into reactors that eat it and operate them safely. That should be the priority. My hope is that we can start getting more fool safe reactors and reactor designs, to the point nuclear-electric cars, jets and planes are only a problem if someone puts a bomb/ grenade / bunch of uranium anti material rounds in their reactors. At that point in nuclear technology it would be less established religions and more just traditionally passed down knowledge on how to operate stuff, like mechanically inclined fathers will do to their kids when it comes to cars. The only difference is maintaining those nuke cars would involve singing a song about how to put on the lead armor before you open up the reactor bay.

I’d love to see ya’ll thoughts on all that. The six major saints, their orders, all that. Most podcasts skip it.

there are actually several wars on earth that even for 40k standards took a little while. each of the punic wars of rome against carthage, the 30 years war, and to some extend the cold war. during these times, major military advances made absolute leaps and bounds, even to the very end. and all lasted way longer than the horus heresy.
in the punic wars, rome discovered this whole sailing thing (pretty neat, now you can move on the water) and improved upon the carthaginian ships almost immediately to use what they already had. and they learned seafaring basically from scratch.
during the 30 years war to my knowledge europeans invented the first actual rifles (instead of just carrying a literal handcannon) and made a bunch of progress in the art of organizing a big army.
and during the cold war we got the bare bones of what would become the internet, space flight and nuclear power for civilian purposes. all basically from scratch and old left over WW2 things we all had lying around.
but at least in the punic wars and the cold war, the actual civilian application of the inventions came after the wars had ended. which in 40k it just never seems to do.

If ever GW writes themselves into a corner where *Nothing* the imperium has could possibly save them no matter the amount of pain and suffering, they can pull out some Dark Age tech that balances the scales juuuuust enough the suffering continues on all sides.

Which leads back tonyour points on religion where they understand applying this special smoke and oil keeps the machines running

Another big reason they use Servitors instead of AI-
Programming even a simple machine (not an AI, just a series of specific stimulus and response, i.e. "if heretics close = YES, gun.exe. if heretics close = NO, locomotion.exe) takes a TON of time and testing, whereas humans they take almost innately know how to walk, shoot, fight, produce things. Why waste the time making programming for machines to follow when you've already got something fully capable of it? You just need to trim off the excess code (speaking, thinking, blinking, responding to pain) to make a very efficient automaton!
Also, one of my favorite theories as to why their religious rituals actually work is that it's just a needlessly complicated version of basic maintenance. I remember hearing that one of their holy texts includes the verse, "when the light turns green, press the power button."
Or just stuff like the holy oils for your gun just being... well, gun oil. That holy scepter you wield in the ritual is the cleaning rod.
    Praise be to the Omnissiah.

The flood in WH40K is a damn nightmare. One hive city alone would be able to spawn a gravemind or worse. Plus they would be able to abuse the bureaucracy beyond any enemy they have faced. More biomass, more intelligence, if you don’t handle a flood outbreak immediately they end galaxies. The reason they are so easily dealt with in the games is partly plot armor, but also was incredibly phyrric. The original near galaxy sized infestation was starved by their food sources nervous system being wiped out, leaving them paralyzed and unable to eat.
The game’s infestations were small in comparison and dealt with rather rapidly.
The flood are one of the most dangerous ever in sci-fi, and quite frankly I believe they are the only faction in existence that could take on the WH40K empire and come out on top. They “need biomass, but also infest technologies, they were able to infect AI, and are faster than tyranids in spreading. While being intelligent enough to outmaneuver combat specialized AI that was able to command entire fleets of combat ships by itself, and I’d the flood couldn’t beat it, they infected and outlasted it.

The Isaac Newton quote is not standalone and has a fuller context. When Isaac penned that line he was in a scientific feud with another member of the Royal Society, Robert Hooke. Hooke was trying to leverage standing off some questionable contribution to Newton's work. With a shallow read it looks like he is acknowledging Hooke's work. However, Hooke was a very small man and had previously been publicly disparaged as "smalle of body, smaller of mind". Isaac was not being gracious and to today this skillfully worded insult is found engraved on English currency.

At 4 minutes "the Flood from Halo" I feel like the Flood just gets their spores in one Space Marine it would probably be over for the Imperium. I think if they even just got a bunch of Guardsmen it would probably be called done right there. They'd fight like hell and the Flood would probably have a bad time but I think it would win in the end. But the only true way to stop the Flood is to starve it to death. Hell it's STILL alive in Halo lore after surviving the literal collapse of the Galaxy and watching its rebirth, then getting blasted over and over and over with system sized explosions.
Essentially, the Flood is just like the Tyranids in the aspect of just eat, grow, adapt, repeat.

I'm not gonna lie the imperium. Does kick the snot out of like 70% of scfi And I'm just gonna say it Star Wars I wanna say gots like one faction And it's barely even cannon That would stand a chance against the imperium. Its a very big if But if darth reven with the starforge And a bare minimum of a decade of build up. That is literally the only Star Wars faction. I think that might stand a chance. That's a nearly infinite source of capital ships, starships and droid fighters to fight on the ground. And I think him stands a genuinely good chance of winning at least until one of the chaos Gods got tired of him breaking all their toys.

When it come to war and technologies, my understanding is this:
1: the more important wining is, the creater the application of technologie is. In pre-colonasation america, there was war war/battle but they were mostly fouth for honor exlusifly. But the européen, for exemple, fouth for winning and it doesnt matter how (mostly).
2: war accelerate ANY technologie that give an advandage (when winning is the most important thing), not just anything that help you kill. WW2 saw a boost in radar and radio because communication and knowing were is your ennemi is just as important, if not more, than a better gun.
War are, however, are not good always good for the discovery of something entirely new or the understanthing of the universe. They’re good for the aplication of knowledge, not so much for the discovery of new thing or the understanding of how the world work.
This is not to say that the scientific working for the military wont try to understand how thing work, but that when they do it, it is in order do better untilise it.
They’re will not try to understand how the sun work unless it has something to do with weapons (or anything that might help in it).
They wont find out that antimatter exist unleast they accidentally make some during a test or something and if they do, they will not try to understand it unleast that knowledge is important for whatever they’re tring to do.
(Also for Oppenheimer, he might not realize what he was doing MEAN. It something to know you have made a bomb with a force of x gigajoule, it something else when you see it in action. Like, he didn’t just made a big bomb, he made a bomb so powerful that it made a earthquake, a fucking sun and leave beind a kilometers talle muchroom cloud and he was at the front row when he saw it)

Star Wars vs Warhammer. Blasters cannot shot through any obstacle, metal, concrete, even mud sometimes... Lasgun, canonically punches through concrete and can severe limbs, also it's light, not plasma, so lightsabers which can deflect blasters have 0 impact on lasguns. And if lasgun can full auto, star Wars dudes fucked.

I'm not sure of how true this statement is, but last I heard nuclear tech was REALLY underdeveloped at the time of WW2. As far as Oppenheimer and his cohorts knew, the moment they set off the first test, the entire world could be consumed by nuclear fission. They knew it *probably* won't happen, hence the test happening. However it was a non zero chance. Meaning, due to the war, even if there was a possibility in their minds, the nuke had to be made. We know now it isn't possible, but the tech for studying all that as well as time to study in general was very much not around during WW2.

The burning of Alexander's Library was the worst lost of knowledge in human history. For context as to how bad it was; before it was burned, the Romans knew how to make concrete. After it was burned, the whole world lost that knowledge, and it took 700 years to relearn it and the method of how it was done wasn't discovered until June of last year... Let that sink in...

The entire Imperium united couldn't handle the Star Ship Enterprise-D alone. They don't have a single weapon that could bypass it's shields, and the Enterprise doesn't need the Warp to get around. Warhammer 40k has impressive scale and wild lore, but the power scale of it is well beneath a lot of scifi.

Are there normal humans on it? Are they all bureaucrats? Is there any nature left on it or is the whole planet just one big city at this point? The way I like to think of STCs (and also explain the lack of knowledge) is that the STC is a big 3D printer, you push a button and a tank plops out the other end.
The problem is, just because you can push the button doesn't mean you know how to service the tank.
So the mechanicus had the Hayes manual somewhere except they don't understand WHY they have to do the certain things, so they pray, oil the thing with the sacred oil, pray some more, change the air filter, pray more.

I was an AdMech character in a "Rogue Trader" game. It was a blast!
On the outside, he was a total heretek, but he made great strides in his travels.
    1) he befrended a man of iron and got him to pimp out our ship with an errorless teleporter.
    2) he found low-level AI trapped in a shoulder mounted plasma pistol and saved it from getting scrapped. His "plasma parrot" is now his trusty sidekick.
He also build a war chassis (so to speak) he would slot his torso onto (leaving his augmetic legs behind) and ride into combat. Imagine a scorpion centaur with chainsword pincers and a plasma cannon (one step higher than a plasma gun) tail. He also had his torso, so he could fire a rifle he made (see #3).
    3) He forged an STC fragment containing his design for a plasma rifle that fused the Imperium's power and the Tau's control over plasma. This would effectively upgrade The Guard's weapons to something stronger than the humble lasgun. He sold this fragment to a manufactorum, since he couldn't buy said manufactorum. However he does get royalties from their sale.

While that is correct multiple religions do that, also it’s unexplained whether they all mean the same thing. Usually they refer to the emperor as the omnisiah and the machine god to be something different. They even think the void dragon shard beneathe mars is the machine god which is more than lightly true. Bc the void dragon is the ctan of machines so it does make sense.
