I can only imagine how efficient Candlekeep's card catalogue is for them to be able to have even a hope of fulfilling the 'bring a book we don't already have' tradition. Having worked at a library I can personally attest how hard it is to audit the stacks even with a regular schedule. It's probably magic, a set of tomes that auto-catalogue every bit of writing that enters or exits a tower.
Story time: My first character I ever played was a Gnome Bard named Gerebo the Clumsy (I had rolled a 5 and put it in dex, but had a decent amount in the other stats). He was a librarian of a small town, and the BBEG burned down his library. He spent the entire campaign gathering new books and his big goal was to start a new library to help keep knowledge alive and available. The DM ended up doing a 10 year time keep, and then decided to roll percentiles to see how much of the land’s knowledge I had gathered. I got 97%. Unfortunately that game stopped a few sessions later, but I have always kept Gerebo and his Library alive over the years. The safety protocols of Candlekeep are eerily familiar to what I have in my library. The only major difference is the city that expanded next to the library is not locked to those without knowledge, but rather built into a mecha of adventures due to the library always looking for more knowledge and updated copies of books and scrolls. To find that this place I have built over the years has a Forgotten Realms counterpart is both really exciting, but disheartening because it has so many better security protocols and safety measures than Gerebo’s Tower.
My gnome wizard getting kicked out and having to boost after an ambush in BG1, before getting some muscle in the form of a miniature giant space hamster and taking on ALL the gnolls. Good times.
The Jansen family owns a tome of great value that consists of a collection lesser tomes spanning 101 volumes concerning the fact, not fiction, of Candle Keep being a proverbial palace of a fortified gate concerning the upper, under & lower dark as well as the world above from hemisphere to hemisphere......& beyond. The Time of Troubles was a horror for far more than Abeir-Toril. According to Jan Jansen Araushnee The Spider Queen Lolth is at the center of it all since time before reckoning. Solinari, Nuitari & Lunitari agree. 😶 This tome of great value concerning The Planar Sphere.
Modular nature of this book is also VERY good, because there are a lot of reasons a campaign may already lead the group to the great library... so now there is a 1-shot you can throw in for the appropriate level!
The Lord of Murder shall perish, but in his doom he shall spawn a score of mortal progeny. Chaos will be sewn from their passage. So sayeth the wise Alaundo.
Im here on a mission! on my first game, my dm helped me build a character and they just decided candlekeep as my characters homeplace in a throwaway comment (i said 'oh maybe hes from a little town with a little library!') Bruh
Have you guys just given up on fixing the Psionic Spell casting from Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything Aberrant Mind subclass? There is still no way to swap out Psionic spells on level up even though the subclass should level up. New features and options are great but existing features should work the way they are intended. Allowing people to just edit their known spells directly would be enough to fix the issue for the Aberrant Mind, Clockwork Soul, and all other classes/subclasses with similar features.
But the lore they look for are those from the Netherese or the Mulhorandi. Or anything from the Elven kingdom of Cormanthyr. Which is now known as Myth Drannor.
replying to my own comment....those that possess incredible eldritch knowledge would be baelnors. We could also go so deep as to look at some of the elder fey. So the eladrin? (sp)
A more accurate place for Candlekeep in Eberron is the Library of Korranberg. "The Library of Korranberg is the single greatest repository of knowledge on the continent". SMH. It's so annoying when the company (WOTC) owns the world and can't do a basic search for its own intellectual property for marketing its book.
I find that many WotC writers, let alone these new contractors, aren't particularly well versed in the lore of any of the settings. There are exceptions, of course, but they often don't have the deep knowledge of many fans I know.
Short form content could more easily lend itself to better functional design, but I’m not that hopeful it will be better other than as an slight incidental byproduct. Until there is a fundamental shift in the woeful functional design of their adventure books, I’m not remotely interested in running Wotc 5e content.

Can't wait to check out how to run mysteries. I feel I'm already good at this but it's nice to hear another perspective.

That's why my bard WRITES a book anytime he had to do research there.
@@WexMajor82 Publish or perish, right?!
They have magic on Faerun. That might prove an advantage.

Justice Arman! What a great guest to have on! Hope you guys get more of the contributors for the book on!
Last time I heard of Candlekeep, I was playing as the Child of Baal and talking with Imoen.

This tome of great value concerning The Planar Sphere.
This reminds me of Borges's "The Library of Babel" short story

That was 20 minutes of quality D&D discussion.

Gotta say I miss Mr. Hulmes telling me to preorder now. Will he be back eventually?
Is there in the book a Lore chapter dedicated? Brand new Lore?
Most likely get your hopes high for that I am looking forward to that as well
Welp, it's only been a few days since the first announcement and people are already hating on the book.

elven eldritch knowledge(pardon)
Nice!
Cthuhu it was Cthuhu rising and they are the one!
No bad books. Someone has not played in the second adventure!
Does anyone else think Todd looks bored or mad?
To get into Candlekeep you must just produce original knowledge that is not possessed by Candlekeep or the knowledge of those within.
Adrian Abdel had better make a surprise appearance. I always hated the end to his character arc.
But does someone need to present a gift every time they go to Candlekeep.
According to the lore, yes.
