I believe onion stated in a longer video that he wanted to pivot away from making 6 second shitposts, but nearly his entire audience watches him for that reason. Essentially, he is content locked to making shitposts. His method to getting out of it is to gradually slow it down, but completely changing your content style on RUclips is a death sentence. I still agree with you, but he's aware that it's a problem.
a lot of people are content locked, there's a guy i watch who's pretty smart when it comes to youtube and truthfull the only times i get any views to begin with is when i use the tips he gives his fans. the issue is that he's right, and what i mean by this is that he has stated numerous times that you're only going to get people to watch what you make if you do what everyone else is doing better. and once you do that you cannot go back, as the algorithm has sorted you for one particular audience.

@@SSS333-AAA Oh absolutely. I'm afraid that I might get locked too. I made one video covering a content farm channel, and it performed by far the best out of everything I've ever made. I wouldn't say it was enough to get me locked, but I don't want to have to pander to talk about weird sus channels. I don't think it's healthy for me or anyone watching the video. I think the problem with RUclips recently has been the lack of individuality in content these days. People no longer watch for the person, they watch to either fill up their dopamine receptors, or for the style of content. There is no appreciation for the creator anymore. I'm just afraid that I'll be another victim of this rabbit hole. I know a RUclipsr named CG plays that's been locked into making geography gaming videos. He's tried to quit multiple times yet can't seem to get away from it. My rant was way worse lol, but I absolutely agree with what you said.
One thing I'll tell you is to be cozy in some way, and to be authentic with your approach. DO NOT try to be someone else. Take care man.

Yeah, I use to like his content but after awhile it just lost its pizazz and wasn’t so special since everybody else is doing the same and it just seemed as if he was just doing it more for money now.
Same for Masteroogwgay and Speedmcqueen, they repeat the same jokes over and over again. Masteroogwgay used to be good but he is unfunny and just boring now.

I don't think you can purely blame this on One Giant Onion, it is more the fault of RUclips's algorithm.
And some of his other videos, like his Tuscany Documents channel is genuinely amazing.

A much better example is SpeedMcQueen. The content can be funny at times, and the channels usually serve as a ground for the same time of style of memes, but his channel is what I hate most about modern memes/comedy on RUclips.
He makes 10-20 videos a day, all regurgitating popular memes you’ve already seen or memes that have already been used, with something changed slightly different, if even, which takes no effort at all. Yet, they make a bigger channel than a lot of people who put in more effort, as well as make profit.
I did enjoy watching him at a certain period, but their stuff is literally just whatever’s popular or some regurgitated meme. I respect the hustle as obviously it works, but I just hate that it gets so much more attention than a lot of channels who put in more work and creativity.
Edit: Why I think SpeedMcQueen is a much better example is there is no soul put into his content, and the literal only goal is to create as many videos as possible, and I presume make a greater profit. While The Great Onion might repeat the same joke, it is still original, unlike SpeedMcQueen’s which is just popular tiktok audios he uses. He posts like 10 videos a day, so it’s obvious he’s not trying to make quality content.

My bad, that’s not what I was trying to say. I thought you were trying to say that his content was bad in the first place because it was just a bunch of sexist jokes, which I replied to with highlighting the keyword, jokes, as these are simply just jokes to appeal to a certain demographic.

It's actually insane how much his content deteriorated, and that's saying something given that his previous content relies heavily on repetition. Him and a similar channel, MasterOogway, both got so popular rapidly and ended up doing/saying the most absurd things possible to stay relevant

Man's honestly had a lot of potential. I initially thought the videos were likely fine despite never having seen them (which luckily kept them filtered out of my feed), but seeing it for what it is makes it much more apparant that he was better off with the old onion bit. It normally sounds a bit nostalgia-blind to say something like this, but that was a genuine performative art that was well respected. That's something not everyone can think of, let alone perform consistently. It's like what Sournale said, he's talented. He just chooses not to make good content.
