So you're keeping 3 eggs, and 2 kettles, and getting rid or the Rec Tec? I'd definitely get rid of an egg or two first. I am with you on the charcoal thing. I used to have a gravity smoker that made some awesome food but it was just too big so I sold it and went with a Yoder YS640. For all the great reviews I heard about the Yoder the temp control is pretty awful, and I can get temp fluctuations of up to 30 degrees from one spot in the grill to another. Not sure if the Rec Tec is the same, but while the pellet smokers are nice for their versatility, and true set and forget, the flavor from charcoal and wood just can't be duplicated.
Wow I can’t believe the Rec tec is getting the axe. Do a brisket paper wrapped add some beef tallow when you wrap. Send me the Rec tec when you’re done with it.
I am currently selling most of my grills. I have had up to 19 smokers/cookers. I will probably hold on to a kettle, Pellet, offset, and 1Drum cooker. Still watching
damn! now that is a lot of smokers! It's tough to part ways... but sometimes it has to be done! thanks for watching... have an awesome spring grilling season!
Just an FYI, I had to move for work twice in the last 6 years and both moving companies told me they will not move egg type cookers. Both said they are too fragile so keep this in mind "in case". They did move my Rec Tec and Weber Performer.
don't second guess... I have the RT-700 and it works great. The noise complaint is a joke. Only noise you hear is the fan running at times.. Also, I've had mine to over 550 degrees and it has seared meat just fine. If you want more, get the sear kit, it works great... I got rid of all my grills and just kept my 4 from recteq, well 3, the matador isn't a grill...
The rectecs are great... I just love the flavor from the charcoal smokers more. If it was a smaller grill, I would keep it. I really just want to clear some space for the future.
That goes to show that pellet smokers just don't create the same flavor as charcoal/wood. They are just convenient that's all. Nothing against it, but man the flavor is underwhelming.
@@Disastrousmedia I thought the same thing until I tried cookinpellets and lumberjack brands of pellets with the addition of a smoke tube. It's a gamechanger.
Good choices, I recently got a Big Green Egg myself however I find myself gravitating back to the Weber Kettle with the Slow n Sear in it . It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks lol. Good video!
Wow, tough decision. I got rid of my large BGE when i bought a recteq RT-700 last summer. I like the convenience of the pellet grill vs the BGE, but the egg does do some things better, pizza for one. I also have a Weber Summit gasser and a 36" Blackstone, looking to add a wood fired oven at some point. Need more space for that one and to get my wife to buy off on it too. Thanks for the great videos!
I would still like you to do a video smoking a pork butt in both the pellet grill and the green egg and compare the flavor of them before you get rid of the RecTec please.
if it does not happen... I can tell you the smoker flavor is definitely stronger in the green egg. you will find the seasoning actually stands out more in a pellet smoker, over a charcoal smoker. in a green egg or others, the meat takes on the flavor of the smoke more and dulls the seasoning a little.
I'm at just a kettle right now so this is helpful. I am thinking just for functionality I am going to add a Weber 335 to the deck. After that I'm thinking about a Summit Kamado to take the place of the kettle. Hoping with those two I am set for a good while making food for the family.
I have a Recteq 700 and really like it for pellet smoker. I do agree with you though in your case. I will try charcoal pellets to see if the flavor is similar to charcoal grill. Had a Kamadi Big Joe and loved it. Precise and super efficient. I was going to add a fan/ controller until it got destroyed in a storm. I have a Weber Genesis and use occasionally but it a great grill. Thank you for your reviews. You might miss your Recteq one day!
I subscribe to the belief that you can't have too many grills. You have more than I do. I don't use my Weber genesis much these days and recently added a flat top to it and I really use it for that for smash burgers etc. Fun. You made the decision that I would have made. I use my Weber/vortex kettle and Kamado most. I am waiting for delivery on my Kettle Pizza. your review was very good and swayed my that way. Thanks. You didn't mention any blower controls. I use a Flame Boss 500 and love it.
I owned my recteq bull for 3 months and I'm already selling it. It doesn't taste much different than what comes out of my oven. It's definitely convenient, but if I'm going through the trouble of cooking outdoors, I want to enjoy my food. I have a Kamado Joe and I love it, I'm planning on buying a Big Joe after I sell the recteq. Nothing beats charcoal and real wood.
I have a Weber Genesis, a Kamado Joe Big Joe and a Bronco (the smaller one) plus a Black Stone Pizza Oven (which sadly is no longer made as it is the best and cheapest gas pizza oven ever). When you start looking for your 2 replacements I have a couple of grills that I would suggest you consider. I've never used or seen either in person but they are completely different from all the ones you have. First is a Hasty-Bake. They have been around forever and there is no equivalent to their concept. The second is The Good One which is another unique but intriguing design... sort of off-set meets straight grill. Looks very cool and highly functional.
right on... I have checked out the hasty bakes before. I found them interesting. I do not think I have checked out the Good One yet? I will have to take a look. Thanks for the input!
I agree, pellet grills are too loud! How about some chickens on the barrel smoker. And by the way, if you decide to get rid of your Big Green Eggs, you can ship one down here to Indianola. 😊
I thought about a pellet grill - smoker but decided to stick with charcoal and wood, Ive also had different smokers-lang-humphrey-brinkman-wsm and gravitate back to the wsm due to it's simplicity and price-performance
Great Assement. I'm not fond of pellet grills for noise possibilities of breakdowns. Does it affect the enamel at all. I mainly use sns with drip & griddle and aura kettle system, using these keeps grill clean, undamaged. Are there other kamatos you would consider.
For Kamados, I think you cannot go wrong with Kamado Joe or Green Egg. Some of the other new ones should be fine too. They all have similar features. If you want a good all in one package with accessories included, go Kamado Joe. If you want to pick and choose your after market products, Green Egg is the way to go. Either way, you will end up spending about the same in the end. I do find the vortex does something to the dampers on the bottom of the kettle. I am not sure if the heat by itself, or all the drippings combined with ash? I love the results though... so I do not regret it.
I can see dumping the PBC. Not that crazy about mine either. I'm surprised you're keeping the gas over the Rec Tec. But I understand how the noise would be annoying
I have 4 mains, Weber summit gasser, Weber performer with folding table, WSM, and lastly, the Smokefire. I love all of them for different reasons. If I had to get rid of one right now it would be the WSM, cuz I like the lazy set and forget of the Smokefire! I have never used a green egg, but they seem really expensive and heavy.
What modifications did you make to the PBC? I think I can see a Weber damper/vent on the lid and a thermometer? Did these improve the PBC in your opinion?
I just added a weber vent on the top to allow more air flow and added a port to slide a temperature probe through. The vent added some control, but its not perfect my any means. I would go with the smaller Bronco Drum smoker as a comparison of the same size.
oh... its a simple but magical little device that allows you to cook hot and fast with indirect heat. this is a wing video I made a year or two a go... ruclips.net/video/st_CVXFk_Ac/видео.html
I understand some folks are upset by the decision... but just living out my backyard life and what I enjoy most.. I will try to keep the good recipes and techniques flowing regardless
Damm hate to see the Rec Tec go, but you definitely have too many lol. For me, between the Bull, Genesis 2 and my weber kettle I have everything covered.
RecTec! show us how much you can smoke on it and then show how well it maintains the temp. You can keep the temperature fluctuating Green Egg and send the RecTec to my house. I'd love it more than you :)
I had a blackstone, but found I did not use it too much. I liked the results, but I did not love getting out the extra tools and keeping it clean. maybe again someday down the road....
The Rec Tec... really? I have a large Costco gasser and a Rec Tec 680 I got in 2014. I did have a Weber Kettle that I did a lot on but once I got the Rec Tec I never used it again and sold it. First..... I just did a 13-Lb turkey on the Rec Tec (in the freezer since Thanksgiving). I was a just a Kroger brand, 8% solution..etc. I spatchcocked it, put butter under the skin and seasoned the outside (no need to brine since it came that way). Set the Rec Tec to 300 for about 3 hours (Bear Mountain “Bold” pellet blend which is oak, mesquite and hickory) until the internal temp was about 160 then raised the temp to around 400 for 20-30 minutes. It came out juicy AND the skin was pretty crisp! So it can be done. And yes I have grilled steaks and lamb chops on it by setting the temp to about 425, again they were great. For me I like the almost “set it and forget” ease of a pellet smoker. Yes, the “smokiness” is not as strong as other cookers, but thats fine for me. For me charcoal became a pain but I have to admit for steaks and quick cooks it’s the best. However I always hated that after the cook my charcoal was still plenty hot, yet wasted away unused. With a pellet you only use what you need - no wasted “fuel” that has to cool down for hours until you can dump it out. One issue with the Rec Tec seems to be uneven heat and seems to run cooler than the readout. I’ve put both an air probe in as well as one of the those cheap dial oven thermometers and those temps read about 15 degrees less that the Rec Tec. Otherwise I love it and it does have the largest cooking area of all the grills you have. I know the Big Green Egg is quality, but to me I don’t like the idea that if I need to add more fuel I have to take out the food first (same with the Weber). So I say, ditch one of each.
You could do a brisket on both of them. A comparison cook. You could also mention to your wife that you are getting rid of two of your smokers. Now, let’s talk about all of these shoes in your closet. Fair is fair.
It’s an electronically controlled wood fired oven. If you are into bbq you come for the recipes and you adapt to what ever you are using to cook it. They are all tools I’m subbing
She's pretty tolerant, that's for sure. Luckily I have a little income from youtube and my blog to make some purchases... or I would have less in the backyard for sure!
It was tough but I follow a lot of BBQ channels and I just couldn’t justify keeping a channel that was getting rid of my smoker. Great channel but for me I’m all about pellet grills and I like watching people cook on the platform I use.
Buddy I’m in the same predicament I own about 20 or so . I gave away about 7 -10 to Family .. But it’s hard . I have replaced a few with newer models hoping my wife doesn’t notice .. Good look deciding
I subscribed because of your RecTeq 700 reviews, so I guess it's time to evaluate all my RUclips subscriptions and get rid of a couple.
got to do what you got to do...
People are butt hurt over these comments. This is the entertainment.
Given your choices, I'd keep the Rec Tec. I love mine, as do my friends, family and neighbors. Smoke in Rec Tec, then sear on a grill. Easy.
Keep all the grills an extend your patio. Problem solved..
The patio would have to get pretty big! I have been wrestling with this decision for a while.. so it's time.
Implement grill grates and Recteq is amazing for crisping and searing 🤗
So you're keeping 3 eggs, and 2 kettles, and getting rid or the Rec Tec? I'd definitely get rid of an egg or two first.

2nd vote for brisket! I could definitely improve upon my 1st cook on video
Oh No! Your Rec Tec has to stay! That’s why many have subscribed !
Sorry! I will try to keep good recipes and techniques coming regardless of the grill

Had a Rec Tec 700 Bull, Sold it. Worked fine just love wood or charcoal flavor.
I am with you... something about the charcoal grills that keep you coming back to fire them up! Thanks for watching

Rec tec! Cook something fancy. Something you would serve on Mother’s Day since it’s coming up and I need ideas.
nice idea... see if I can throw that together in time. and I will see what others vote for
PBC's portability gives it a nod as well. I've taken it to soccer games and done 6 slabs, not many others can do that volume so easily.
getting rid of two grills, huh? yeah... you're just making room for two new ones :D
Sad to hear you are dumping the RT700 one of the reasons I subscribed to your channel.
i hear ya.... just going with my heart on this one
I was thinking of getting a recteq .you now have me second guessing .......by the way you have a great back yard
Don’t second guess this. It’s a great smoker and grill. It is not noisy or annoying. I had another brand of pellet grill that was much noisier.
don't second guess... I have the RT-700 and it works great. The noise complaint is a joke. Only noise you hear is the fan running at times.. +1 for brisket on the Rec Tec. Wow, you were so stoked about it when you got it. I still love mine. Doing a rib cook in a couple of days.
That goes to show that pellet smokers just don't create the same flavor as charcoal/wood. They are just convenient that's all. Nothing against it, but man the flavor is underwhelming.
@@Disastrousmedia I think the addition of a smoke tube can make a huge difference. But, you're right, it's not quite the same.

thank you! hard choices. love the weber kettles too... always great results and easy to setup
Rec Tec!!!! I own the RT 700 and love it!
glad its working great for you... I have nothing bad to say about them... just moving a different direction
I'd get a tel-tru for your bronco. Amazon has them. Works well on my bronco. I think the longer stem helps a lot.
Good tip....thanks! I will go that route if I replace it

Thanks for watching... and understanding the tough decision this is!
I understand why you chose the PBC because you have the bronco pro
I’d like to see another cook on the rt700. Only reason I’ve found/watched/subbed ur channel!!
plan to do at least one more... most likely a new an improved brisket smoke
I agree with Darin, please do a pork butt or a complete pork hind quarter on the RT700.
Man, I hate to see you stop doing Recteq cooks.
hey, sorry to disappoint.... just going with my heart on this one... I try to keep it authentic
I would still like you to do a video smoking a pork butt in both the pellet grill and the green egg and compare the flavor of them before you get rid of the RecTec please.

Out of all the grills ive owned and tried i always go back to my 1991 red weber origanal kettle.
weber kettles are great... thinking of trading one of my 22" for the 26" or whatever the next size up is.
I'm at just a kettle right now so this is helpful. I am thinking just for functionality I am going to add a Weber 335 to the deck. After that I'm thinking about a Summit Kamado to take the place of the kettle. Hoping with those two I am set for a good while making food for the family.
I would think those two additions would round out your collection quite nicely!
I would like to see your last cook on the Rec Tec, cook a chimney full of lump charcoal in it for use in the Big Green Egg.
ha ha... man that would really make a few of my followers mad!

That Rec Tec is nice and all, but I agree that Charcoal is king!
Maybe replace the old kettle with a 26" !
A 26 would be nice for big wing cooks. Might have to do that at some point if I do not find something else out there?

If I had to get rid of one right now it would be the WSM, cuz I like the lazy set and forget of the Smokefire! I have never used a green egg, but they seem really expensive and heavy.
Nice collection you have there. I would try a green egg sometime if you do not think you are moving. They really do hold temp nicely.
Agree with PBC.
Make a packer brisket in the pit barrel cooker.
pit barrel got retired to a friends back yard... but hopefully still making good BBQ there
Enjoy all of your grills. Grilling and smoking are wonderful hobbies. Best wishes.
I have had them all. Get a Pit Boss pellet grill with sizzle zone and get rid of everything else.
You really chose the pit boss over all of them? Interesting
Also, I just got a gmg jim bowie and I'm thinking of returning it. I get way better flavor from my charcoal/wood smokers.
pretty much what I have found. got to do a little work if you want the big flavor
The recteq 1250 fixes your complaints
you are totally right... I think they nailed most of them... which is great for future customers
What is the Vortex?

Weak sauce. I found you and watch you because of the Recteq.

Next you’ll be giving away your kids! It’s hard to do, I’m down from 6 to 3 but I think it’s the 3 I can live with.
6 kids is a lot! I'd definitely have given away some at that point too. 👍🏻
always a tough decision!

that's a nice collection for sure! many folks would love to have those 3 grills!
Pretty much all my stimulus money 😅 figured I'd knock out all the basics at once!
RecTec! show us how much you can smoke on it and then show how well it maintains the temp. You can keep the temperature fluctuating Green Egg and send the RecTec to my house. I'd love it more than you :)
I will try to address the side to side temp testing before it hits the road... thanks for watching!
Keeping 3 eggs and getting rid of the only pellet..... just get rid of everything that’s not an egg and buy 6 more eggs.... that’ll be so fun
just making some room for something in the future. out of curiosity, what is your go to smoker?
Holly Mackerel. Here am I agonising over buying a smoker to complement my Weber Q2200, and you have nine grills! What am I worried about?
and I am not even close to some others I know on youtube and facebook... with 15+ grills... yikes!
Can't you just add a handle to the top of the Weber?
I think I could... but I'll keep rolling with it the way it is
No flat top?
I had a blackstone, but found I did not use it too much. I liked the results, but I did not love getting out the extra tools and keeping it clean. maybe again someday down the road....
You started your channel on the 700. I would keep it for nostalgic purposes!!
its just so big... need some more room for new toys
I vote recteq. This is going to sound weird but how about baking something on it? A bundt cake or something of that sort?
hmm... yeah... I will probably have to send her off right.... we a big hunk of beef or pork
How much for the Rec Tec?
I would probably throw in the grill cabinet if you wanted to pay full price for the grill. You would have to pick it up though. I live in Iowa
The Rec Tec... really? I have a large Costco gasser and a Rec Tec 680 I got in 2014. I did have a Weber Kettle that I did a lot on but once I got the Rec Tec I never used it again and sold it.

rectec 700 prime rib roast.
I think brisket is going to be the last cook. I am going to put everything I got into this one!
Subbed! Great video, brother! Keep up the awesome work!
thanks! I appreciate you watching
You could do a brisket on both of them. A comparison cook.
You could also mention to your wife that you are getting rid of two of your smokers. Now, let’s talk about all of these shoes in your closet. Fair is fair.
Sell me that rec tec if it’s still available
my brother in-law is supposed to pick it up any day now... but we will see. are you in Iowa?
tell a Russian which grill is better to buy 5770 ... 5755 ?
Rec Tec .... Full Brisket...invite all the neighbors
1st vote for brisket!

@@Gecko88 I just enjoy rec teq vids. My butt is very sore if you’d consider rubbing some bbq sauce all over it. No preference of which kind.

RecTec - Beef Wellington!
9 grills ? You must have some special sort of a wife!
She's pretty tolerant, that's for sure. Luckily I have a little income from youtube and my blog to make some purchases... or I would have less in the backyard for sure!
Sad for the RT-700
we had some good times together... but she's just not the one for me 😔
This is like Sophie’s Choice, but with grills.
always a tough call!
Last cook on PBC.
I’ll take them all LoL
As you say they are family.....time to change wife 🤭😉
Other option is to give up of Rec Tec and barrel cooker.
pretty much! I guess I will keep the wife!
40-50lb whole pig on the Recteq.
that would be a good one, but I might have to wait to build my first pit for the pig
Wow I only watch for the Bull.
yeah, I know some would be upset... just going with my heart on these decisions
none!! He who dies with the most grills wins!!
ha ha... love it
Noooooooo
It was tough but I follow a lot of BBQ channels and I just couldn’t justify keeping a channel that was getting rid of my smoker. Great channel but for me I’m all about pellet grills and I like watching people cook on the platform I use.
all good man..... have an awesome fall grilling season when it arrives
Chicken wings
Buddy I’m in the same predicament I own about 20 or so . I gave away about 7 -10 to Family .. But it’s hard . I have replaced a few with newer models hoping my wife doesn’t notice .. Good look deciding
finally someone with some sympathy! lol. 20 or so is real problem... wow! Which one is your favorite?
Ask her to get rid of half her makeup lol, see how that goes
Easy choice - get rid of the wife!
