Just scored a used table and was trying to figure out the best material to set the egg down on without damaging the wood. You nailed it by sharing the Granite base and the metal nest, which is what I'm going to do now- THANK YOU!!
Love your grill cabinet videos!! Appreciate you taking the time to make these videos and sharing your knowledge and experience. Will be trying to build my own soon!!!
Great video!! Thanks for sharing. On the table with the XL and the ample space in the back - what is the total table depth. Also, I love the open front of the tables exposing the front of the BGE - and issues you've found with it being open, or all good? Building a table this weekend for my new XL and fired up. Thanks!!
from memory, its about 40" deep. I do have overall dimension descriptions on my blog searedandsmoked.com/grill-table-plans/ for each table plan. I love the open fronts on them. Makes moving them a lot easier when needed. If you have them placed securely on the green egg "feet" it works just fine. Just check the feet once a year or so for any movement. You will love it!
Great video! I noticed you used both the metal stand and the ceramic feet to raise your egg(s). My table, like yours, is open in the front and I was wondering if you had stability concerns with the egg tipping forward. Thanks!
i get this questions a lot. i have not had any issues with tipping and stability. wind is not a factor, so the only other time it could move is opening and closing. So... as long as you are careful there, its not an issue. I do recommend checking the feet once and a while if you are using the ceramic feet, as those can wiggle a bit over time. the metal nests work great, as the eggs cannot escape that setup.
Hey great video! I'm in the Des Moines area. I am about to build my second stand and am wanting to do an open side like you have vs a hole in the center of the top. I am worried however about wind blowing it over. Ever had this fear? Thanks!!!
I have never had one try to move that much with wind or anything. If you are in the middle of the country with super high winds, maybe that is a concern. If you are in a suburban backyard, I would not worry about it. I have had a few of these setups, and if you have them in the green egg "legs" or table stands they are fine. nice to have another central iowan on the channel! thanks for watching
All European-style hinges have hight, depth and lateral adjustments. I believe that what you mean is look for hinges that have cam adjustments for these adjustments. If they aren't cams you typically have oblong hols, or what I like to call "Slot Technology", which can be a pain. Salice hinges are my go-to, but for this application I would recommend finding a stainless steel version. Great series. Scott
Sounds like you know your hinges! You are correct... I do not like the slot technology... hard to adjust. Love the euro hinges after finally trying them a few years a go though.

Hello - thanks for the video. Have you had any issues on with the wood slats on the sides on the egg getting too hot/burning? In other woods, did you consider using a non combustible material on the insides of the shelf next to the egg instead of the wood?
You can certainly go that route and use aluminum flashing or corrugated steel, or anything else more reflective. I used aluminum flashing before as an easy cheap alternative when I built around a gas grill. As long as you have the egg elevated off the granite you should be OK. If you have the grill ripping hot, I would never stray too far from it anyway. If you are smoking in the 300 F or less temps, you should never have a problem from my experience
I would not feel bad about that.... my first table was pretty crappy. I wish I had pictures of it so people could see what my first build was... but it was before this youtube channel and when iphone pictures even sucked. no matter what I build... there is always something to do different!

Do you have a link for that grill grate holder mounted on the front of the table?
send me the time stamp from the video and I'll take a look. I don't remember a grill grate holder off hand.
1:15. Mounted to the wood under the granite.
Hi - great tips.. what the spelling of the sealer you mention? penal??? thx
Penofin Ultra - Transparent Cedar Color is my fave

Is there any place that sells them premade?
there are some. more and more each year. google challenger green egg cabinet and that might get you want you want.
Once I found Penofin, that's all I use on my outdoor pieces.
love the stuff... seems to last longer than other things I have tried
I built a truly awful table/box/cart for my pizza oven. My secret, I did almost everything you say not to do!😂

If I came up with a video of anything I built, it would be a "what not to do" video.
wait.... you built something? ikea?
@@Searedandsmoked ikea AND so many other things!
