For those who don't play chess or know the move sets. For context each piece has their own unique move like the rook (the tower) can only move straight; left or right, forward and back (also a there's a pun there in his quote). The knight movement forms the letter L.
i just realized that 1:48 - 1:58 are 2 bosses which were unused before the dlc was even created. which if you think about it seems pretty cool how they readded them to the game.

It’s also that when cuphead loses, he’s “Trapped for the night.” Just imagine you being trapped in a dream forever with a skeleton in the background rocking back and forth, An angel, and a demon trying to burn you alive. The music is just horrifying and I don’t see people talking about it for some reason.
Theres a secret phase for the dogfight boss that has it's own unique death screen. You can get to it by not killing the pups in phase 2, instead bring their health down till their jetpacks start spewing black smoke instead of white. Once that happens then the alt phase 3 begins, and like I said, it has it's own deathscreen. Awesome vid though!
I just realised the King's Gauntlet puns are based on chess- one by one by one by one, your chance at victory is done: Pawns can only move one space forward A W for me and an L for you: Knights move in L shape (also clever to make the horse a knight) I've got you beat from every angle: Bishops only move in a diagonal angle beating you was straightforward: Rooks, only moving in straight lines, up, down, left, right Too little, Too late, I dare say that's checkmate: How chess ends, in a check mate, especially if it's a Queen And i guess for the King, there isn't really any pun here, though there is the fact that you go to each boss one at a time, fitting for a king to only move one space each turn-

Fun fact: in the Howling Aces, the small dogs shoot the letters b,o, and w. But you can see every time they spin there is different letter making a pattern. And depending on if they bark bow or wow, that’s the pattern the letter goes

When playing the Moonshine Mob I didn’t fall for the fake knockout only because I watched RUclips before playing because I wanted to see some things before playing without spoiling it and saw the knockout screen for this and thought it just had 2 knockouts or something like a custom one so I didn’t stop shooting because I thought instead of it being fake it was just a cool custom one lol
i still prefer cuphead. the only thing i like about ms. chalice is her double jump. dash parry and invincibility roll is not really in my style. especially the roll... maybe the reason we like her less is we've played as cuphead for the whole game so it is hard to get used to play with another character
I know the Secret Devil fight is probably referencing something else, but all I can think of when I see the death message of that boss is King Nothing by Metallica.
