Hi! Sorry for the late response - please see above for my suggestions. In short: find a Jeep specialist mechanic in your area / country or a good Jeep online forum. They are filled with knowledge and information! :)
Hi Jason! Greetings to Maryland - my favorite state since John Waters is from Baltimore. Even if it were available imagine the hassle of hauling it from Northern Europe to the US... ;) I just found out it's from 1989!
Well, I am kind of partial to this Renault engine that is attached to this lovely vehicle. BTW, if you speak Arabic, be sure to check out jeep_cherokee.92 on Instagram. They post videos of driving these creatures all around the desert!
Hello sir. I just picked one of these 86 Cherokees up with the 2.1 Renault motor. I am looking for any information I can find on the motor. The previous owner suspects that the motor is seized or the timing belt needs repaired. Could you point me in the direction of information on this particular engine?
@@moejr14 I suggest you find a local Jeep specialist who knows about these things. I have one here in my area, who is basically the go-to man on everything Jeep. Also online Jeep forums are great (we have a local forum in my country; there are also international forums available) for asking about information. It's like a distributed brain of Jeep specialists!
@@TheTechnicalWizard Yes, the 2.1td is really reliable, doesn't have any weaknesses. Mine has 317k km, but the engine has been mounted on many other Renault vehicles and they rarely had problems even after 500k. I'd say the VM 2.5 TD engine is more notorious for its reliability issues.
Sure, Renault made Diesel engines for Jeeps in the European market. This one is probably the most cost-effective Jeep engine ever made, using approximately 10 liters per 100 kilometers.
It's built like a tractor. Sounds like one, and pretty easy to repair stuff. Not like a V8 at all, or a bigger engine, in that I hauled a camper last summer behind one, and it is not ideal in hauling heavy stuff at all. But looks cool!
@@jeepzen1937 The cast iron sleeves were sagged driving to cylinder head gasket issue. I had to raise the sleeves by adding shims between sleeves and engine block.
Very nice and rare! Mine is '89 XJ but 4.0L, has Renault electronics.
sounds exactly like my hydrostatic john deere
That's so right, Nick! I call it my little tractor! :D
Nice Jeep!
I’ve never had a chance to try the 2.1 TD XJ and I’m really curious. Mine is 2.5 TD.
It's a cool tractor! At the moment outta use, as it's -10 celsius here in Finland. Waiting for the spring!
Nice. I use mine every day and also for offroading. I like these tractors a lot. 🙂

@@V8AmericanMuscleCar Awesome! Mine is for daily use as well. At least in warmer weather. Stay safe + keep offroading in beautiful Croatia!

Yo le estoy poniendo a mi zj 97 un motor Daihatsu dl diésel 2.8
It’s a Renault motor only 86bhp and 135 ft lb torque so must be fairly sluggish. Those motors go on for ever though.
I had an old friend that imported one from the French island of Martinique to America it was cool I liked it

Is it all mechanical? Can't you turn up the fuel pump and the boost to get more power out of it?
you could but the engine itself has a lot of reliability issues that make it not worthy

390 000 on the meter; however, the engine has been replaced by a one that has 270 000 kilometers in it. Thanks for asking!
