Have always really enjoyed the pluckiness of the Hofner. I'd like to think that during the 60s, it is a staple for basses to have that pluckiness, gives the song a more exciting feel for its thick mix. Kudos into getting Paul's energy in his bass playing, he does tend to be aggressive in his early bass playing.
An interesting thing, that I think people usually don’t realize, is the number of famous bands in which the bassist is the “main” guy or one of the “main” guys in the group: McCartney (Beatles), Bruce (Cream), Sting (Police), Wilson (Beach Boys), Waters (Pink Floyd), Simons (Kiss), Lee (Rush), Lane (Small Faces), Fraser (Free) !
i’ve always loved that little jump up to the fifth he does on the third verse, in the run between D and Em, it’s such a tiny change, but adds more energy to a part i’ve always thought really drives that song. Only Paul could make a walk up into a hook i swear
Great videos, Paul is a very good bass player, I am a beatle fan. You all are also very fine musicians, congratilations. Saludos desde Sombrerete, Zacatecas México.
It’s sounds like it’s tuned pretty sharp. In the same way Paul tuned his bass on I’ve Got a Feeling. I could be wrong though considering my sense of pitch
It’s a really nice bassline to play. For me it’s not really so much about what he plays as it’s fairly standard “with a few nice extras thrown in” but it’s how he really hammers the strings and uses his fret fingers as almost mutes at times. You won’t find many tracks on 63 where the bass is literally being beaten to within an inch of its life like Paul is doing on this one and for me it’s part of what makes the song really drive. Thanks for the video Neil!
Thanks, and Im glad you recognize how much he uses his fingers as mutes! Higher than normal action helps with this as well, when the action is too low its very difficult to cut off the sustain as much as he does.
I love how the bass isn’t the best quality. It makes it much more accurate as the bass wasn’t that high of quality in their early songs. On their later songs when they started dubbing instead of recording live together, the bass was higher quality.
This was fabulous!!! Magnificent darling lemme tell you.... your hands up close are impressive. Dahling I don't say this to everyone, so believe me when I tell you, you look mahvolous just mahvolous
Interesting. I always thought Lennon's rhythm on this track was done in a rough strumming manner. But the way you play kind of gives me the vibe that Paul was the one doing the rough playing with his bass.

aggressiveness was necessary, as the guitar tends to dull the bass
I like the bass chords. Powerful sound.
That was the 1st time I heard a bass play power chords. I don't know of many others that did it in 1964.
I always loved concentrating on Paul’s bass listening to it.

Literally same
All my loving was the first song I learned on bass

Love the sound of a Hofner. Great video!
The bass oh paul great thanks for this amazing song. First number ❤one in Anerica.
Terrific 👌 as always Niel, you never let us down

Excited to hear the isolated Rickenbacker.
Both of em
The penultimate bar is similar to the ending of the song Twist and Shout.
GooD)))))))
Both are in G so you're right

I read somewhere that his bass was way out of tune when they recorded that on the roof

John was definitely the roughest, but they all definitely MADE their strings make a certain sound.
I always thought there were bass chords in this song during the “and when I touch you I feel Happy inside “ part
Great 5 A pluses!
Fuckkkkkk. That tone.
Great !!!!!
Can you'll please make a video of Wait from Rubber Sole. Thank you so much.

I agree
Beatles bass lines are great for beginners and just fun to play for any kind of player.
FINE
It's Bloody Fantastic! :)
Beautiful Höfner! Which model is it? I'm whinking about buying one.
It’s a 93/94 v64
I've got 15 different basses and you really can't get that sound with any other instrument.

anyone knows how can i play this with acoustic guitar?
Yeah
If you're wondering if you can play the Bass bit on a Guitar, I don't think it's possibly sadly
You can just play this, but it'll be an octave higher
Fender sound vs hofner sound
where’s the power chords 0:50?
He doesn't start them until the second half of the first bridge: ruclips.net/video/qNygogjAbZU/видео.html

Jajajajajajaja.....deberás siento q casi truenas el Hofner x lo ridículamente q le das a las cuerdas en ciertos momentos!
