I’m not sure about in Texas or in the south but here on the east coast (VA/NC) we use those reels on surf rods for casting fish finder rigs for Cobia, Big drum etc from the pier or surf. Usually spool em with 20lb mono with a 40-60lb mono shock leader so you don’t break off while casting.
I own that seigler in the video and I used to have 20lb suffix tritanium but wanted to try something different for line casting tho the spool housing kept lifting up I am still able to cast 150 yards using hollow core but for my good old fathoms, squalls, and Akios I use 20lb mono with SaKuma shock leader
That's about the same we do for distance casting competitions... and that is where I also go the idea of being able to do the same with braids so that way we can start fighting bigger species from shore with plenty of backing and also faster .. once it heats up enough I will be going back to thw beach to continue this series of that so we can cast bugger baits targeting bigger catches.. looking for Jack's over the 3 rd bar over here without getting wet to cast
I had one of those got rid of it same issue. The one screw it has on the gear housingbis just not enough. Plus the reel was just loud on its own. Was not impressed with seigler. 450 for a reel with issues ill stick to Avets.
@@TeamHardLife cranking is fine on the reel no issues what so ever I’m guessing probably only on the spooling machine it moves around but I’ll reach out to seigler see if it needs any tightening in the bolts or something

@@TeamHardLife I wasnt ragging on the reel like someone mentioned maybe just needs to be tightened up and some blue loktite. That wobble you found probably would have never presented itself if trying to spool it by the customer. Nice catch.
We use 80# or 100# top shots of braid for all our main lines for any casting reels.. and leaders range from 100# -400# mono and cable depending on what we are fishing for. Same here we like to horse them in to catch more per hr.. per leader and helps us improve our abilities to land fiah safer for release
@@HookNinjaaaa what are you fishing for? If your fishing bigger sharks and rays over 100lbs then 80 and 100lb topshots are fine. Its too heavy for any other inshore fish though.
Yes however using the heavier lines are only for my leaders which can range from 8-10ft for casting for sharks from the piers and or 4-6ft on the beach ...in the bays 200# mono is the heaviest we will sue because we also grab the leaders to pull fish up if net isn't available.. also he heavier mono helps with the leaders lasting longer when hitting the rocks or barnacles at the pier pillons..

@@TeamHardLife I use 60lb diamond hollow core with 100lb topshot I have it on a 10’steadfast ml I cast 6oz and fishbits are mullet heads and 4oz that seams to be the ticket it can outcast my avet sx are my Penn Fantom I’ve stopped a 34”red in it’s tracks at Indian point and they have a quick line retrieve for when your fishing around rocks

i use strait 80lb on my reels also and 100lb mono leaders it might seem over kill but i can horse in alot of my fish
We use 80# or 100# top shots of braid for all our main lines for any casting reels.. and leaders range from 100# -400# mono and cable depending on what we are fishing for. Same here we like to horse them in to catch more per hr.. per leader and helps us improve our abilities to land fiah safer for release

Yes however using the heavier lines are only for my leaders which can range from 8-10ft for casting for sharks from the piers and or 4-6ft on the beach ...in the bays 200# mono is the heaviest we will sue because we also grab the leaders to pull fish up if net isn't available.. also he heavier mono helps with the leaders lasting longer when hitting the rocks or barnacles at the pier pillons..

@@TeamHardLife I use 60lb diamond hollow core with 100lb topshot I have it on a 10’steadfast ml I cast 6oz and fishbits are mullet heads and 4oz that seams to be the ticket it can outcast my avet sx are my Penn Fantom I’ve stopped a 34”red in it’s tracks at Indian point and they have a quick line retrieve for when your fishing around rocks
