  • I hope you found these exercises helpful! They were inspired by Joseph Stemple's Vocal Function Exercises. I recommend doing each exercise twice, two times per day.

    The O exercise brings back memories from back when I did theatre, and we'd all do vocal warmups backstage. It was at an ampitheatre, so the audience could hear us from the other side of the stage and they always thought we were insane

      I used to be in theatre too back in the day haha. A lot of the exercise I work on with clients come from a mix of traditional voice therapy, singing & theatre :)

    Sweet mother of Cronus, thank you for giving us an exercise that's actually easy- I'm so frustrated with being told to "speak from the diaphragm" or make a dog panting sound that will freak the neighbors out...

    Oh my god I'm so tone deaf; how do you go from the piano note to saying "e"? It sounds totally different

      A reply a year later but hopefully this might help someone: I recommend closing your eyes and.. well most of pitch matching is listening. Once your voice matches the pitch you can hear a sort of blend. I recommend just trying to match the pitch of the very start of the note). It might help to slowly slide down/up to a note you want to match, if youre unable to match it
      This part may be confusing but this is how I learned: W wasnt sure how to match pitch. What i did was listen to the note and visualized it as a line at a certain height (higher pitched notes at higher levels than lower pitched ones), and tried to get my voice "line" to match the "line" of the note.

    Dang it! My stupid "after music school" brain automatically run these notes an octave higher, gosh, how to undo it? lol

    Can we have a playlist with the sound of the notes? I know nothing about piano and notes and can't find them in the app

    • @jordanrosscommunication
      @jordanrosscommunication  Год назад +3

      Thanks for your feedback! If you can't find an app with the notes displayed at the bottom you can use a virtual piano online (www.onlinepianist.com/virtual-piano) select "sustain" and "letter" notes at the top. I'll work on creating some more content with visuals.

    i can just barely hit the f3 and i'm 15, is that normal? thank you for doing these videos they're helpful

    • @jordanrosscommunication
      @jordanrosscommunication  2 года назад +27

      It's totally ok that you were unable to hit F3. Everyone's voice has different ranges, so don't force yourself to go lower than what is comfortable for you at the moment. Pitch is only one aspect of voice. Soon, I'll be uploading more videos on intonation and resonance that you can incorporate at a pitch that feels comfortable for you.

      Don't worry about that. My lowest seems to be E3 but I'm already uncomfortable at this level, so I'd stick to F3 myself too. Since I produce quite enough buzziness (vocal weight) it still sounds rather masculine.

      If i'm reaaally pushing i can get to g3 but no lower and im also 15

  • @Poulpystudio

    Is there a way to have a more masculine voice without lowering it ?

      Intonation is pretty important. like the parts of the phrases you put emphasis in.
      try to keep a steady pitch throughtout the sentence, ending phrases on a higher note makes you sound more "feminine"
      I think pitch variation is what makes a voice more masculine or feminine (think of the gay accent)
      I tried this, and keeping my voice monotone did a lot for masculinization!
      Though I get how that can be something that you don't want, an emotionless voice can make you come off as unaproachable.
      (Sorry If I made any mistaskes, english isn't my native language.)

    If I did these exercises do you know if it would affect my higher range as well? I'd love to be able to do both! Thank you C:

    • @jordanrosscommunication
      @jordanrosscommunication  7 месяцев назад

      Hey! You can explore higher ranges too. Here's an example exercise:
      C3, D3, E3, F3, G3, A3, B3 (going up the scale)
      B3, A3, G3, F3, E3, D3, C3 (going down the scale)
      Feel free to explore ranges outside my suggestions. Just want to be mindful that you're not squeezing/tensing your muscles when practicing :)
