My good friend died from Covid. His wife gave me his radios. I have my extra license so I have my homework cut out for me to learn this radio. Glad I found your channel
I remember Rod when he was at AES in Euclid! Helluva nice guy, and very knowledgeable too! Anywho, WHAT A RADIO! I'm using a 'lowly' IC-756 Pro3 (love it)!
Hook up an antenna and lets see what the radio sounds like. Also, with an antenna hooked up, we could have gotten a better idea of how the display performs with live signals.
Ridiculous that in 2020 the display is pausing and updating. Looks to me a throwback to thron from the 80's. Also is the price connected to the size of the box? Seems it was made bigger to justify the price versus function.
hello, very good explanation, I have a question if I wanted to connect my MFJ 962E External Antenna Tuner is it possible either to the radio or the FPS 101 speaker power supply? Or would I have to get an external power supply? Many Thanks in advance
Hey man! I'm gonna GIT ONE!! I CAN'T WAIT!! My shack's gonna look SO good, w/ my 101MP & my 9700, I'll be busy FOR THE NEXT 10 YEARS just getting to know these radios! I've got the antennas to back em up, heh heh heh, & I'M GONNA USE EM, BAYBEE!! Then a computer AND I'M IN HOGGGG HEAVEN!! THAT'S AN EXPEEEESSSION!!! YEAH!! And 50 TOKENS FOR THE LADY! UH HUH!!
I'm suprised that the "feet" on the radio, power supply and speaker do not have the gold band around the feet to accent the radio and price tag. My Yaesu FT-920, SP-8 speaker and Quadra amp do. And those are 20 years old.
The major problem here, is that you can't buy the radio without the speaker/power supply. Otherwise, I would pull the trigger in a New York minute. I already have "studio sound" with a Mackie board and studio Phille monitors that delivers incredible audio, and my entire shack is powered by dual 6 CS 21P tended Rolls batteries. In any event, great radio....
Holy Snikes! It seems like you'd have to have a computer science degree just to operate this monster of a radio! I like Yaesu radios, however, why does anyone need a "3D waterfall display?" I bought an Icom 7000 in 2015-16 and it has features that I have not even tapped into yet! Seems as though upgrading my station is going to become a major financial expense that I will have to somehow justify to my wife!
Quality of the audio from speakers very flat and ugly. Id you use dnf in ssb it distort. The coax gear for second reciever is a total mess. I own it and i miss my old 9000mp
Best concise overreview of 101-MP on RUclips. Thanks Rod - KB3H
Wow, thanks! Glad it was helpful. Thank you for watching.

I just wanted to say this was very well done and very informative. Thank you for taking the time to do such a great video.
BTW I think the power connector is the same one as used on my TenTec Paragon.

Thanks for the video. Though, I'd really like to see what ports it has on the backside.

Great video! de W2CSI
Had it, hated it, sold it...went full SDR no regrets
That is not the way to use a preselector ( VC tune )... you are de tuning the front end...
