- What gives you a sense of awe? You might imagine standing on a wide-open plain with a storm approaching, or holding the tiny finger of a newborn baby. That word, awe - the feeling of being in the presence of something vast that transcends your understanding of the world - is often associated with the extraordinary. But you don’t need remarkable circumstances to encounter awe.
You can find it every day, often in the humblest places. Staring up at a starry sky; looking at a sculpture that makes you shudder; listening to a medley of instruments joining into one complex, spine-tingling melody - those experiences remind us that we’re part of something that will exist long after us.
Luckily, we don’t need to wait until we stumble upon it - we can seek it out. Awe is all around us. With a little intentionality, we can reclaim our sense of wonder in the everyday, ordinary moments of life. Perhaps awe, while an ordinary response to the extraordinary, is also an extraordinary response to the ordinary.

As she spoke I was full of curiosity about her. Your film didn't show her hobbies or cooking, but I did love seeing her exercise. However, her advice to 'Go slow' for longevity was so simple yet it really resonated with me. I quit an unsustainable career at 53 and moved to a cottage in the woods near a sweet village. I'm 72 now and when she said 'Go slow' I breathed a sigh of agreement. I've been slow living for nearly twenty years and have no health problems yet. What gets me out of bed when it feels like everyone in my circle of intimates is suffering is my piano, which I started learning to play when I was 66.

I do agree that living in the moment,going slow is good for one. Playing piano or any instrument is a wonderful solace, whether you’re experienced or beginning--you have to be in the moment and not think of anything else. It’s been mine for many ,many years.

One day my adult daughter and I were talking about aging and I said to her ‘I feel like I’m 7’ and then she replied ‘well I feel like I’m 5’. And we have kept it going all these years. She’ll ask me something like - ‘well why did you do that’? And I’ll reply ‘because I’m 7’ and then we laugh. We should all keep that child like wonder through our golden years and beyond.

My mom lived to almost 103. One of 13 Italian children. She ate right and kept positive. She had her marbles and her humor at the end. I miss her so much. I will see her again in the new world.

I turned 81 this year. I recently received word that my college roommate died this year. Seems like just yesterday that we were a couple of 18 year old kids starting out in life. A life is such a blink of an eye. Looking back on my long life I would suggest two worthy goals to strive for in a well-lived life. One is to be a good listener. And two is to be a good "noticer". When I wake up each morning, I say to myself "Yay! I still exist. I get another day of conscious awareness. I get another day of hundreds of thoughts to enjoy" Death doesn't scare me because when my brain dies, I won't know I'm dead, just like all the billions of years before I was born..

Did anyone else smile, cry, or laugh when watching this? I felt all that. What a wonderful being who knows what life is about. Key is being grateful. While she informs us to "take it slow," my 96 y.o granny told me to "never stop moving." She had this little picture in her kitchen that said "Don't wait for your ship to sail in, swim out after it." In terms of her advice, I know its truth because when we stop moving either physically or mentally, it is a form of giving up. Our bowels shut down, our muscles atrophy, we are prone to pneumonia, and mental lethargy, and so much more. In some ways this woman reminds me of Granny.

I was, for years, drawn toward the static idea of "spiritual freedom". It was a catch-phrase being tossed around in the 70's & after, & I gravitated toward that 3-D "freedom" idea but never reached it.
The wording "spiritual liberation" is an action term (to me) that my heart had never contemplated but that I had always needed to recognize and to act upon to help me fulfill my purpose in living the slow-life to my current age of 92.
How grateful I am to find it sequestered here in a beautifully simple comment in this awesome realm of beings opening their hearts so comfortably.

I watch this having just lost my mum at 89 so in her 90th year. They look very similar, quite simply beautiful . My mum had dementia which meant she very happily lived in the present moment. She lived with me for her last 6 years and she taught me to slow down. To watch the birds, to notice the trees or the flowers. She was grateful for every day. We can learn so much from the elderly. And it hurts when they leave.

I work with elders who have dementia and Alzheimer's. I treasure every moment with them. Their precious memories that remain are so amazing and i am privileged to learn about their lives, desires, hopes and fears. ❤
I teach Chair Yoga to those with Alzheimer’s (early stages but honestly some are pretty progressed). We make sure to have laughs every session no matter what. I appreciate every moment with them!

My grandmother was 97 when she was hit by a door at the nursing home. It broke her hip, dad did not sue and would not hear of it. She was a little Italian lady who had dementia for ten years. My mother also had dementia for ten years, she passed at 85. Daddy had his left eyeball replaced with a marble, he is 87. I cannot imagine being that old, but I did not imagine being in my 60's either. She's right on and groovy. God bless her ❤️🔥✨️

It sounds like she reinvented her childhood, reclaimed her inner child and her authentic self.
Her wish of dying in awe will come true, because the way in which we live is the same as when we die. As a bedside companion for Hospice, I learned that these kind of people just surrender to death and die in a very dignified way, as if knowing they manifested all the love and light, while on earth! Thanks for such a beautiful video.

As a Christian, it is easy to see the beautiful wisdom she shares as a gracious gift from God. I love how she sees the world. She is beautifully and wonderfully made like all creation.
That is all you got out of what she had to say? What about the joy, light, wonder, and thankfulness she spoke of? The connectiveness of all of us. This woman is wisdom, humbleness, and graciousness at its best.

She got me, when she said that she's like the compost pile, on her way out. It's touching and refreshing, to hear someone talk about the death that is near, it's so taboo in American culture, hardly anyone talks about leaving. Wonderful, I don't know how I landed here but I'm glad I did.

This lady reminds me so much of my mother who lived a full life for 93 years on this wonderful earth. How wonderful to be looking and sounding like this at 96! I can only hope to live happily that long.
