But then I learned the proper way to use the ingredient from Dr. Dray. The influencer had been using it wrong which is why it didn’t work for her. 🤦🏽♀️
Thank you so much for these "is it safe" makeup videos. I'm a former makeup artist and now an EMT. Being an EMT has made me gun shy with so many thing I did before lol. I didn't want my makeup to down with this ship. I've always been a bit of a germaphobe when it came to my make up and tools. I always used single use wands, disinfectant my tools between clients and would use a blending tool so not to double dip into any eye color or lip product. However, there are just some tricks that I would be lost with out.
That's so great that you are so careful with your makeup. You have to check out all the bacteria I found growing at the makeup counter, makes me never want to ever try on makeup in a store again! And, you're right to be a germaphobe. You probably kept so many of your clients eyes nice and healthy! ruclips.net/video/zzInY7BnXck/видео.html
I got intense and frequent migraines out of nowhere. I went to various doctors and finally was diagnosed with dry eye. I realized that months before I got a makeover at my favorite Mac store and was tightlining my eyes daily. I got treatment for the dry eye (plugs) and the headaches went away. Be careful with eyeliner so close to your eye.
Love it! I've been tightlining for years and most of my friends thought I was crazy for sanitizing my eyeliner before usage! I don't tightline as much now but I know I was doing something right! Lol 🙂
My eyes actually get watery when I tightline. I thought it was from the brand I was using, but it happens no matter which brand it is. They don’t hurt or feel irritated, they just get watery.
Exact opposite but still problematic. Instead, adheres nicely BUT it blocks the meibomian glands - Eyes get so dry but no amount of eyedrops help much and it makes me very overly sensitive to light, feeling fatigued, and trying to make myself cry sometimes just so I can feel moisture in my eyes again.
the watering is actually a sign of "dry eyes," since the oil cannot come out of the glands into your eyes to keep you tear balance correct...the oil helps the tears stay "thicker" and more long-lasting. Without the oils, our eyes will get dry and your eyes will start watering to compensate--- making more tears. I had the very same issue. I had to stop tight-lining my eyes.
Thank you! I’ve been wondering about this pretty much ever since I knew tightlining existed. I ran the concept by my neuro-ophthalmologist dad once and he basically equated it to those little metal inside-the-eye “tattoos,” called all of us idiots for doing stuff like this, and then said to “do what I say” and wouldn’t explain further. I never found another doctor who I felt would understand the concept enough to explain the risks without being so dismissive. Thank you!
Wow this was so helpful. I did not know about the oil glands. I finally understand why some of my pencil liners give me dry eyes and others dont. I used a shimmer eye pencil and thats practically putting freaking glitter in my eye! Never doing it again
Great content. I have been tight lining my eyes for 60 years & I have been very fortunate to have never had a problem. Thank you for your very common sense approach instead of just saying don’t do it! Keep up the good work. Greetings from Cornwall UK

I started tight lining yesterday and did wonder how it can affect your eyes since mine get very watery when I do it. Thank you for sharing! Now I’m not sure if it is even worth doing it. I went 15 years without it. Lol
Now I know why my mom always says not to use eyeliner. I always thought she just didn't want me to use makeup on my eyes and that she was making it up. So happy to know(:

I’m Arab and I have a deepest eye, my grandma also told me kohl is healthy and looks beautiful 😂 I honestly get more iterated by kvd and Sephora eyeliners than those local ones I used back home. Now that I live in the US, my eyes are so irritated 😣
My eye doctor chewed me out for tightlining. I’ve been doing it for over 20 years and had contacts for just as long and NEVER been told about this before. It was a new doctor for me but i was ticked. I have changed my mascara to a less flaky one and stopped tightlining, but I feel like I look so different in a bad way. Good to know it can be safe especially if I want to get dolled up for date night or something
I love the way you stacked your necklaces or those pearl pendants? Our eye health is so important and any kind of irritation doesn't feel too good, so I try to keep mine healthy as possible. Btw, I love your brows. Tfs

Hi Dr. Rupa Wong! Please kindly share the name of the eye makeup (Eyeliner/Eyeshadow) you used to tightline/waterline your eyes in this video. Love your makeup! ♥️
Doctor thank you for such valuable information. It helps to have a female doctor to guide us women through our makeup application. I just started doing upper tightlining because I lost Vision in my right eye with an optic nerve issue and cannot get the eyeliner on the same way ice when I had sight in both eyes. I am diligent about using a good eye makeup remover in the evening and warm compresses to make sure all of the areas are cleaned well. All eye makeup is changed every 2 months. Thank you for the tips and the close-up look at your eyes
Hi Amy - I'm so sorry to hear about your optic nerve disorders and resulting loss of vision. I cannot imagine how tough that is. Thank you so much for your kind words.
I love that this was so informative and that you're a tight-lining fan. Really unique perspective. I use to always tightline, but I was gifted a glitter eyeliner set a few years ago, and just went for it without thinking. My eyes have not been the same since. The glitter eyeliner did something... Feels like chronic dry-eye, and the mucus production, especially at night when I'm tired, is MADDENING. So what is your stance on magnetic eye-liner?
Try hot compress over your eye for 5 minutes then massage your eye glands there's videos about it it helps get the gunk out of the glands. Magnetic eyeliner did it to me that's what I was told to do.
This was so helpful. I wear RGP lens and used Indian kohl in my waterline so many times, only to feel my lower eyelid puff out after a few mins. Now I know why! Thank you.
Thanks so much for such a helpful video from a medical perspective. Tight lining has always instinctively felt wrong to me. I have several large, expensive eyeshadow palettes. I’ve heard RUclipsrs say that they’re powder so they’re good for years and years. How long are these palettes actually safe to use?
Tight lining is NOT the same as putting the eyeliner on your waterline. Tight lighting is when you fill in any “gaps” between your lash roots. So it look like a solid band.
This information is so useful and thanks to you for that! Could you make a video on eyeshadows and what are the differences between regular or mineral eyeshadows? Are mineral eyeshadows actually better for the eyes or is it just greenwashing?

I'm so glad I found this video! I have dry eyes and always tightline my upper lashes. I never realized I was making the problem worse. I use Xiidra eye drops. Not sure if they help much. I'm buying the We Love Eyes cleanser. I double cleanse at night. I first use a cleansing balm to remove all my makeup. Then I use a foaming cleanser. Is the balm ok to use on my eyes? Thank you for this helpful video!!
So thankful I found your video. I’m fighting my 3rd sty. I’ve never had a problem before. I got my first, 3 weeks ago, underneath my eyelid on my left eye. Very painful I might add. Well, it healed. Now I have one on the left eye, but at the bottom this time. And, I have one on the top lid of my right eye! My goodness, do my eyes ever hurt. I always tightline my eyes. I’m going to throw away my liner. Yes, it’s an old pencil. And I’ll be throwing away my mascara and primer as well. Although they are not old, but may be contaminated now. I’m also going to start cleaning with the alcohol. Thank you!
0:55 Most make up artists use the term tight lining to refer to putting eyeliner on the base of the lashes, not on the water line... it's two different techniques
Just found your channel and wanted to say thank you for sharing these videos. 🤗🌟💕 You’re educating us and providing helpful information to prevent injury. I’ve since reduced the frequency of tight-lining whilst keeping my tools clean. Much love & blessings. Xx
Makeup terminology and application can be so confusing sometimes. I thought tightlining was putting eyeliner at the root of your eyelashes, outside of the waterline but not quite where the eyeliner line goes. And I thought that doing your waterline was what kohl/kajal pencil were for and that it was actually good for avoiding infections (isn't that why Ancient Egyptians and Indians started doing it?). Turns out I was wrong on both counts, and that even eyeliner can end up in your eyes at some point. I'm so grateful for videos such as this one that set things straight once and for all, and help you do things safely.
I use an oil cleanser first, lathering up my whole face for 1 to 2 mins focusing on my eyes. I softly wipe with a makeup eraser (basically a microfiber cloth). That usually takes care of it all. But if not, I use a Q Tip dipped in Micellar Water around the edge of my eyes and carefully through my lashes. Then if there's anything in the waterline, I wipe it with a new Q Tip dampened with plain water. Since I only use gel on kohl pencils, it's usually half gone anyway.
I'm so blessed to have come across your channel. I lived this video - thank you! I have VERY sensitive eyes and can't seem to find an eyeliner or mascara that doesn't make my eyes water and smudge giving raccoon eyes. Can you recommend one? Also, I have had a stye that has remained for months now ~ should I be concerned? It was there for my last eye visit, I just forgot to mention it - but they didn't either ~ yikes!
as someone who’s been doing this for a while (not even realizing it was a teal thing someone did) i never thought about this being dangerous in any way, thanks :)
Your video was very informative. Thank you. I've treated chronic dry eye for over 20 years. I've found warm eye compresses morning and night as recommended by my opthalmologist to most helpful.
I know this is an old video, but I'm commenting anyway. 😜 I've seen a bunch of your videos now and I can confidently say that I've learned something from each that I've been wanting to know for a long time. And sometimes, these have been questions that I've actively searched for answers on in the past (to no avail). PLEASE keep making videos. ❤
this was sooo helpful! Thank you, I do have one more question, how do you completely remove eyeliner from the waterline? I use eye make up remover and it removes eyeshadow and mascara. I also go in with a qtip and remove the eyeliner from the waterline however it doesn't completely remove it! when i wash my face the eyeliner runs into my eyes!!
Dear Dr Rupa, thanks for the sharing! What is your opinion on lash serum? Those that promise to lengthen and make lashes fuller..are the ingredients harmful to our eyes? Thanks 😊
This video was very helpful. I do have allergies, in general, but this video explained why most liners dry my eyes out so much that my eyes become irritated. There's only a couple brands I can tightline with and even then, I don't do it days in a row. I found out waterproof liners are the most drying for me, again this video explains why. So what I do is not put the liner directly on the waterline. I put the liner moreso along my lash roots and smudge with a brush. It gives me the same effect. Great video. Thank you!
This video is SO helpful. Thank you so much Dr. Wong. I was wanting to learn how to tightline, but I am glad that I now know how to do it in a way that is safer.
This vid. just popped up in my feed, and I’m very glad that it did! Great info. about how tightlining can affect the meibomian glands! I’m wondering if years of using baby oil to remove waterproof mascara might clog them up, as well?
Thank you very much for this informative video! I love love loveeeee your channel. I have suffered with chronic blepharitis for years and it’s pretty well controlled when I follow the prevention regimen and don’t wear any makeup. I have been listening to your videos and hope it helps me find a way to safely wear make up again 🙏🏻
Thanks Penny so much for your kind words. Blepharitis can be debilitating. I'll be sure to do more videos on that topic since it truly does affect so many and I completely understand wanting to resume makeup. I just did one on styes and makeup too.
Thank you...for all your advice. I have lined my eyes for years and now I am getting styes😢. This video really helped ... more help than my own eye doctor 😂!
So glad I watched your video. Have sensitive skin to begin with - with eyes easily getting red/teary with wrong products. The tight line is a great method for those mature, however watching this I don't want to take the risk. Thank you
I really appreciate all of the information that you are sharing because no one really talks about it!!! I have sensitive eyes and I'm learning a lot. One question, is it ok for the eyelash cleaner to have parabens or should this be avoided?
You are sooo sweet and beautiful and btw your skin looks amazing you should do a skincare video !! I commented before and you answered me so politely ! I asked about the Rimmel lash accelerator mascara and serum I am using both right now . Lately my eyes are in turmoil but not from those products I don't think anyway. I use so many products at night and I think I got some essence in my eyes and the veins in my eyes became very inflamed . I need to be more careful !! You should also do a video on just the basics of healthy eye care mine are currently red and suffering and I am not sure exactly why ! I am not trying to be bossy tho lol just ideas. Thank you for your videos !!! God bless you
i am new to you youtube and enjoyed your factual sharing/comment/advice as true blue professionals instead of beauty bloggers who are generally sponsored.
Great video. Thank you! Glad I never tightlined. Looks so good on others but always makes me look like a raccoon. Also, couldn’t help notice your bracelet stack are those custom or something we can purchase?
haha. yeah, I get the raccoon look too sometimes, but people do that on purpose too! Just smoke it out with a little shadow underneath and voila! Yes the bracelets are custom. These super sweet woman who makes them in LA - only $40 each! and she does gold, rose gold and silver. With and without charms. I just text her, but let look up some other type of contact info for her.
I enjoyed your video. Very helpful. What is your opinion of false eyelashes? I'm assuming the glue is toxic, but if done correctly, could it be ok on the eyes?

I'm buying the We Love Eyes cleanser. I double cleanse at night. I first use a cleansing balm to remove all my makeup. Then I use a foaming cleanser. Is the balm ok to use on my eyes? Thank you for this helpful video!!
Thank you so much- this was so helpful for me- very clear and understandable
I'm so glad!
Thanks, Dr. Rupa! My own opthamologist would not have the time to go into such detail!
You're most welcome! Thank you for watching, Florida!
Thank you for the safety tips. I’m almost 60 and I have never tightlined my eyes. I’m just trying to learn how.
Great video! So what eyeliner do u use to tightline??
Hi Dr. Wong - I just came across your channel and I love it! Thanks so much for all your amazing videos! 💗
Great points for those of us who don't know - ty!
Thank you!
Ugh, styes are awful. So sorry! I hope this helps. Thank you for being here!
Thank you so much for your time and effort for your every video. Please keep doing educate us. 😊😊😊👏👏👏
Can you pls recommend an eyeliner that is safe to use in the waterline. Thank you so much!
Thank you for this information! Beautifully done and informative.
0:55 Most make up artists use the term tight lining to refer to putting eyeliner on the base of the lashes, not on the water line... it's two different techniques
Thanks for sharing that!
Just found your channel and wanted to say thank you for sharing these videos. 🤗🌟💕 You’re educating us and providing helpful information to prevent injury. I’ve since reduced the frequency of tight-lining whilst keeping my tools clean. Much love & blessings. Xx
Loved loved loved this video! Thank you for sharing your voice!
I love your lip color. Can you share what it is?
It's Charlotte Tilbury Pillowtalk (liner, lipstick and gloss). Here's my affiliate link. I love it! lipstick: bit.ly/2NWaDCT
Can you show how to remove eye make up and especially if you tightline your lower eyelids how you clean those.
Ohh this is super helpful and interesting, thank you!
Thanks for your professional insight into beauty!
Love this video!! Love your highlights and eyeshadow!!
Thank you so much!!
Thank you doctor! 💕 Kim
Thank you!!
This was very helpful! I have dry eye AND blepharitis so I have definitely learned not to thightline. Looks good but it´s not worth the hassle!
Exactly! Plus the particulate matter that gets into your eyes too!
Thanks so much! This is exactly what I needed to hear! I'm actually going to be posting every week now (my New Year's Resolution!)

this was sooo helpful! Thank you, I do have one more question, how do you completely remove eyeliner from the waterline? I use eye make up remover and it removes eyeshadow and mascara. I also go in with a qtip and remove the eyeliner from the waterline however it doesn't completely remove it! when i wash my face the eyeliner runs into my eyes!!
great advice thanks regards liz from UK 🇬🇧
Very informative 💜 what eyeliner do you use?
Thank you! I use Thrive.
Best video ever 😍
This video was really helpful and informative - thank you!!
Dear Dr Rupa, thanks for the sharing! What is your opinion on lash serum? Those that promise to lengthen and make lashes fuller..are the ingredients harmful to our eyes? Thanks 😊
Joey, here is a video I have posted about my favorite serums.

Hi Dr , loved your video tips. Which eyeliner pencil would you recommend that is smudge proof? Thanks.
Great video and advice, thank you!
Thank you so much for educating all of us!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this information!
Thank you!
Thank you so much for caring and this video!!
This video is SO helpful. Thank you so much Dr. Wong. I was wanting to learn how to tightline, but I am glad that I now know how to do it in a way that is safer.
TYFS!! Great advice and I’m so glad I found your channel!! You’re so gorgeous btw!! Have a great day! ~Alli~😀🌸🦋
This vid. just popped up in my feed, and I’m very glad that it did! Great info. about how tightlining can affect the meibomian glands!
Thank you, very informative!
Very helpful. Thank you very much! ❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🏆
God bless you
How on can you start wearing eyeliner on your top lid after having a chalezion I love all your input very helpful
Can you do a video on how to care for styes and general eye care
Absolutely!
I have sensitivity to makeup. Is there an eyeliner that you can recommend for me to try on my waterline? What do you use? Looks beautiful. Thanks!
Hey Stacy! Thanks for your comment. I am making note if your suggestion and will look into sharing eyeliner recommendations!
Great tips thank you so much!! What do you use for teeth whitening you have beautiful teeth?
i am new to you youtube and enjoyed your factual sharing/comment/advice as true blue professionals instead of beauty bloggers who are generally sponsored.
Great advice thank you..
Please recommend a nascara and pencil eyeliner for very sensitive eyes and skin.
I just text her, but let look up some other type of contact info for her.
is it ok to use eyeliner, mascara, any side effects or any chance of eye diseases?
I enjoyed your video. Very helpful. What is your opinion of false eyelashes? I'm assuming the glue is toxic, but if done correctly, could it be ok on the eyes?
