@@DrRupaWong I would love to know why only Italy offers a certification for a product being tested for nickel or cobalt?! These companies make BILLIONS on beauty products but don’t want to spend < $100 to test for amounts of nickel or cobalt. I think they DO know how much is in the products and they don’t want us to know.
Over 15 million Americans have at least a contact allergy to nickel, so I am 100% sure that nickel tested products would sell well!
I got not only the True Tests for contact allergies, I went to a rare specialist in Seattle (now retired) who did extensive contact allergy testing on me, hundreds of them on my back. It sucks because I had systemic reactions both times. Very ill. The CAMP list he provides of supposedly “safe” products is of little help for nickel or cobalt because these things are NEVER seem on Ingredients lists, they are INSIDE mineral or plant based ingredients. Only way to know how much is to test. I wish someone would market nickel and cobalt tested makeup here in USA. I am sure it would sell well!
Look up skinfitique…sold on Amazon. A kit of products for those with nickel and cobalt allergies. I use the makeup remover and the protective lotion under eye shadow . Everything else I order from Europe. www.Ecco-Verde do a search under “nickel tested” to see hundreds of safe products

My eyes watered so much that some days I felt like I had “tear rivers” coming out of my eyes. I am beginning my journey to better eye health and I’ve had success with laser and red light treatment. After one laser and 5 red light treatments, my doctor expressed the oil glands on my lower eyelids. They were severely blocked and it’s made a big difference. Thank you so much for all of the info about makeup choices, like most consumers, I had no clue about cosmetic labeling!

I never knew mascara and other eye products could/would contain nickel! I’ve known I am allergic to nickel for literally 20 years and now I understand why so many mascaras were causing me so many issues!! Thank you!! Now I’m going to google safe mascaras, do you have suggestions?

Lovely to see someone addressing one of my biggest bug bears!! But... my eyes water, burn and turn red as soon as I get near them. I've tried to very gently brush just underneath my lower lashes, but my eyes still attack me! I've tried everything! I just have to go without!!!

Hi Rupa! I never really leave comments on RUclips but your videos honestly have been life savers for me. I have struggled with extremely sensitive eyes and dry, atopic skin for years but it was only last year that I began developing sensitivity to my usual eye makeup, to the point that I now only wear makeup for special occasions. I managed to develop awful conjunctivitis and redness around my skin, but thanks to you I feel more informed and confident (and less alone in my eye makeup struggles!). Thank you so much for sharing your expertise! Love from Scotland 💗

Rupa thank you for this video. I like Molly have a right eye blindness that was caused by Bartonella (from a tick bite) and now an inherited narrow angle glaucoma. Needless to say, I have a lot of sensitivity. I use only three products and never stray from them. I use no eyeshadows, crazy lashes or lots of products on my eyes or face. I am so concerned with the influencers using so many products just to get ready in the morning, Please everyone do not take your vision for granted. When it is gone its gone. Always looking for a pure eye makeup remover, still using coconut oil or vaseline and a soft warm washcloth . I am thankful and filled with gratitude that I still have great vision in my left eye. Not worried about looking high end. Thank you for your info....what a gem of a MD!!!

Best info online Dr! Makeup solutions I've discovered: Switching from pencil (cream/wax) eye liners to liquid which stays put without migrating into my eyes. NEVER tight lining. Using high quality matte concealer (Tarte or Urban Decay) with sponge point and staying 1/4" away from upper AND lower lashes. Applying Almay mascara only on the tip half of my lashes. Using Magnetic Demi lashes if needed. I only wear eye makeup for special occasions and carry OCuSOFT Lid Scrub pads in my purse everywhere I go. My Dr. recommended a daily supplement of Norwegian Cod Liver Oil to help oil gland production and not getting my moisturizer too close to my eyes! All working perfectly!

Hi Rupa, I had been wearing the same E.L.F. cosmetics for the last 13 years with no problem, until this year when I developed an allergic reaction to it. I started to develop red scaly skin on the eye lids, very painful burning sensation when my eyes would water and touch my skin. I went without make up for two months and my skin started feeling better. So, after not wearing any makeup, I decided to give it a go. Things did not go well, I woke up the next day with very swollen skin surrounding my eyes, nose and mouth areas. The skin was very red and inflamed. The inflammation did go down by the following day, but unfortunately I developed extreme swelling of my upper lip. So much so that it was almost impossible for me to drink. I took some antihistamines to help settle it and by the next day I am recovering again. Usually take about a week for all symptoms to fully disappear. I am no longer using my old makeup and have since ordered new makeup to try. I'm only on day 4 since my last reaction, so I'm going to give my skin plenty of time to recover before introducing new products. Thank you for all the wonderful info in your video! I'm happy to know now that these allergies can pop up anytime, even after wearing the same products for so many years.

I stumbled across your video and I seriously couldn’t be happier!! I had to give up makeup for like 3-4 years because I was dealing with contact dermatitis with painful blepharitis every single time I would try to play with my eyeshadow. It freaking killed me bc I’ve always loved makeup. I seen your video about eye allergies and you pointed out alcohol!
Girl!!!!! Everything began to click! I used rubbing alcohol to “sanitize” all my pallets because I would use it on my nieces then spray it so I could avoid contamination the alcohol itself was the culprit the whole time!!!! I would use it to spray my brushes too so I would just be rubbing my eyelids raw with rubbing alcohol even though I thought it evaporated it out it still was enough to irritate my eyelids!
I tried makeup a chance again I could cry!😭🙏🏽 I have had one breakout bc I forgot which pallet I’ve spritzed with rubbing alcohol but the your recommendation of You & Eye cosmetics saved my eye from the blepharitis getting to a horrible aching point instead just swelled and irritated with a little bit of an itch.
Seriously thank you so much for you sharing your knowledge I’m able to wear makeup again 😭🙌🏽

Thank you for the video! I've been makeup free for 2 years after I was forced to stop when my eyes couldn't handle anything anymore, and prescribed steroid treatments made my skin even thinner. I am now in the process of trying to strengthen my skin and find products I tolerate.
I have an autoimmune disease and proven allergies to nickel, copper, MI/MCI (often a substitute to parabens!), corn (starch), wheat and likely more that haven't been tested. On top of that I have atopic sensitive and very thin skin, and dry sensitive eyes that don't allow me even to wear contacts and water even from wind or strong enough fan/AC. It really is a struggle to find products that don't swell my eyes shut or make my eyelids burn and flake, even many prescription eye creams give me bad reactions, but found Avène soothing eye cream to work for me for daily moisturising.

    Yes! Yes! Yes!
I’m so sensitive to fragrance with my nose, I just assumed my eyes were having issues with that, too. I had no idea there was so much more to it! I quit wearing all makeup bc I was so sensitive all over to it. And it makes so much sense to have eye makeup developed by eye docs. Why did that take so long to happen?! 🤦‍♀️
Now I have a plan of attack!

I am so happy to come across your post. I have been struggling so much - thinking it was just something to accept as I am getting older. Because of my age and for insecure reasons I try to put a bit of make up on before o go to work. I am not into make up - keep or minimal and as natural as possible but I also have very bad eye sight and so, even with a x10 mirror, I struggle. I use a dry eye spray which is good but almost as soon as I put anything around my eyes ( and I so want to try help with the wrinkles and hooded eye lids ) my eyes start watering and then I have to use Vaseline on them to help or the constant drying them causes inflammation but the vaselaone wipes the eye shadow away and I look worse than before . I hate it. My self confidence is the lowest it’s ever been . So thankyou for all the advice - I need to look for similar products in the uk bit information is power, right ? ☺️

I have gone through makeup and wasted so much money on products. Thank you so much for this. I plan to follow exactly what you say and hope to finally be able to wear make up without being uncomfortable.
Now follow up question- should you do anything differently when you are wearing contacts with makeup? I was using waterproof so nothing flaked into my eyes. For me it was worse when I would try to wear makeup and have my contacts in too.

I never used to have reactions to eyeshadows. When I went to the Caribbean a few years ago I started having reactions to makeup used on my lids. I switched products, made sure I kept my brushes clean, and still no luck. Whenever I know I have to wear eyeshadow(very very RARE), I make a sacrifice for puffy eyes in the am. Mascara and eyeliner doesn’t cause any reactions, but powders and creams always do. It’s very interesting bc if I would use these shadows as makeup to any other parts of my face, no reaction would occur. I know you did mention lids are the thinnest layer of skin on the body, so that does make sense. I’m excited to try some of your techniques and recommended products! Thanks so much for the info !!!

I’ve been through the overly sensitive eyes saga. I’ve been a long time Molly subscriber. Something I’ve learned is contacts aren’t for me. I still haven’t found an eye makeup product I can use constantly. I’ve resorted to using my glasses full time.
Thank you for doing this video. It gives me hope that maybe some day I’ll be able to use contacts again…. I m not a candidate to lazar type things due to an eye disability… I’m so used to using corrective lenses that it’s very normal for me.
I will say I’m very allergic to many environmental allergies that the thought of using other stuff isn’t even in my bin of things that caused my allergies in the first place. I’ve tried so many brands over the last 20 years that I’m not really willing to try “other brands”. I’ve been “stuck with” MAC brands cosmetics. They have been a fail safe for me over the years.

Ever since I had microneedling sessions for my undereyes things went bad because they were done wrong and ended up damaging my skin. It’s been over a year now but the majority of my undereye area still turns red very quickly when I wash my face or apply cream, anything which applies a bit of pressure ends up making it turn red and looking irritated. This never had been the case before those treatments were done. I can’t even apply my favorite eye masks anymore because all of the sudden two hours or so later the area gets itchy and turns red and very swollen. Almost like an allergic reaction when i never reacted to these masks this way in the past. It’s very disheartening and I cry a lot because of this. I did those treatments because i was unhappy with the darkness under my eyes. This was always something I struggled with and felt very depressed about. Microneedling this area definitely did help and improve my skin there a lot! At times they’re barely noticeable anymore besides on the corners. I was looking forward to go through all of the needed sessions and felt happy for once about seeing these improvements. But thanks to the last two badly done sessions I have this sensitive redness now and I’m scared it might never go away again.

My liner and shadows fall down to lower lid. I thought it was because my eyes water and lids are oily, with or without makeup due to allergies so I got waterproof liner. I can only wear for a short time then my eyes get red and irritated. I will try the hot towel to clean lids. I find cream shadows avoid powders getting into the eyes.

I appreciate this video. I do makeup videos and often mention having sensitive skin, sensitive lids, allergies, etc.
I know I'm allergic to Nickle. Any time I hit pan in a powder product I throw it away, because if I keep using it my face breaks out.
My lids don't tolerate pressed pigments, at all. My lids become inflamed, painful to touch, and my eyeballs swell. These effects last up to 3 days. I don't know the exact names of the pigments to be able to point them out in the ingredient list, so I count on the brand stating there's pressed pigments in the palette. So, then I know not to purchase it.
"Natural" or "Clean" isn't always good for me because I have allergies against some natural ingredients.
Yeah, and I was never impressed with "Opthamologist-tested" or "Dermatologist-tested" because the product wasn't tested on me and everyone with sensitive skin or eyelids don't have the same sensitivities.

I didn't realize it was in some eyeshadows either. I did know it's in a lot of pans. Meaning, when I use a powder foundation, blush, highlighter, when I hit pan it breaks my face out and I throw it away. I never hit pan on an eyeshadow, though.

I have severe facial psoriasis, before I never had reaction but suddenly it kept feeling like I’ve been staring so to my eyes wide open at an AC unit with heat at full blast. My eyes sting, burn. Feel like they want to water but I can’t cause it’s so dry. All this time I kept assuming it was psoriasis even though I didn’t see any psoriatic lesions there.

I went to an eye doctor and he wanted me to use a hot steam towel for 10 minutes twice in a day and clean my eyelid for two weeks. I actually did it everyday for 2 months because my eyes still felt dry. Unforntunately, I one day found some bumps under my eyes, so I stopped my routine. How often do you recommend to do a hot pack on eyes? Do I need to worry about bumps under my eyes?

I can't put anything on or around my eyes. They swell up and get gooy with inflammation. Even wiping my eyes causes inflammation. I deal with severe allergies and I have woken up to my eyes being glued shut from inflammation. I also have processing disability. My left eye is legally blind from lack of processing. I can't see light, colors and details in my left eye yet my eyes are very healthy. It's my brain that is different. I also have a none verbal brain I don't have verbal thoughts and I can't process speech. I use other processes to translate speech. I can't even use hypoallergenic products. I just keep everything simple. I quit wearing makeup and any metal. I don't put anything on my body that flares up my inflammation. I do know that mineral makeup is good for me but it's a little more expensive than other makeup products. I use to use a mineral makeup brand but I can't afford it anymore. I also got puffed lips from lipsticks. I couldn't believe it how bad it was. My lips swelled up and turned purple after I put on my favorite lipstick. Oh and eye drops don't help me because I am allergic to them. My doctor tried treating my eye allergy and inflammation with drops. I learned not to touch my skin and eyes and try to keep clean by washing my hands. I don't use fancy soaps as well. Dove white bar and jell body wash work well for me.
