I have a sensitive skin, sensitive soul, sensitive eyes, sensitive hearing…. I’m pretty much one big raw nerve.
So well put 🙌🙌💚
You are a hsp.
@@tnt01 Indeed I am. 😑 it’s exhausting.
@@miltoncat me too.
💯.... me too!!!
I have sensitive skin, and the only thing that seems to work for me is keeping my routine extremely simple. I cleanse, use adapalene gel, and a moisturizer and in the A.M I cleanse, moisturize and put on sunscreen. My sensitive skin does better with less extra steps.
Me too. But I'm on the sensitive and oily side. So I need to use a mild toner to calm my acne.
Same same same!! I used to loved using so many products but I wasn’t looking at what my skin really needed. This summer it really needed a cleanse, vitamin c and spf during the day. Saved me so much time 🥰
yes sometimes simpler is better as opposed to a 10 step routine
I have sensitive, dry, acne prone skin and also follow a very minimal face care routine. Night time: aloe, adapalene and shea butter. Morning: the Burts bees 2% salicylic acid spot treatment, aloe gel, and the babo botanical spf50 sunscreen stick. I have found the Burts bees salicylic acid spot treatment to not be too drying or irritating for me.
I’ve found less is more for sensitive skin. Sometimes I even take a break for a week or more from all skincare products. My skin loves that!
Rice berry face wash is my go-to for sensitive skin. I've tried countless others, but none have the same impact on my acne as rice berry. My face feels moisturized and glowing after each wash. I also use rice berry vitamin C face serum in the morning, which is pH balanced.
The first thing I value about this rice berry face cleanser is its soft nature. It completely washes my face without removing important moisture, leaving my skin being fresh and refreshed. In contrast to other cleansers that are harsh on dry skin, riceberry face wash preserves a delicate balance that effectively removes dirt and oil while maintaining my skin hydrated.
I was let down with the face wash from mamerth as it didn't solve my acne. Switching to riceberry face wash did the trick and reduced my pimples.
I've just entered my early 30s and here is what I've learnt through trial and error (happy to see I have tried a few things Dr Idriss recommended.
WHAT I HAVE LEARNED TO AVOID:
* Fermented toners like Missha's, just can't seem to handle them
*Anything with beads or worse grains in it
* Strong acids or anything that is marketed as being strong/gives dramatic results like peels
*Hot water on my face in the shower or at the sink, I use warm only
* Regular use of cotton pads, the rubbing multiple days in a row is irritating
*Fragrance, including masking fragrance, essential oils, perfumes etc where possible. I do have the thick Ceramidin in the tube but if anyone knows a spot on dupe without fragrance please let me know!
* Anything with menthol or weird cooling or even warming sensations
* Hyaluronic acid where possible, I just don't think the Melbourne climate is humid enough
* Drinking a lot of alcohol or applying drying alcohol containing products
WHAT MY SKIN LOVES
* Just a splash of water in the morning, no cleansing twice a day
* A simple routine, only one active in rotation at a time (e.g. retinol OR vit c, not both)
* Double cleansing with a cleansing oil then a gentle second cleanser
* Not exfoliating more than twice per week and using PHAs to do so.
* A very occlusive moisturiser like QV or Ceramidin with ceramides and shea butter applied to damp skin
* A 'baby' retinol like the Neutrogena silver jar that isn't super strong.
* IN WINTER layering moisturisers (so a lighter one underneath a thick one)
LOVE this list. Especially the what my skin loves.
This is my skin as well. My skin loves lactic acid but I can only use it twice a month
When you say 2 moisterisers, are the different
@@Banana11128 Yes, I first apply one that is a bit more runny then on top another that is thicker
@@imyourhappydrug thanks
I have atopic sensitive skin for 34 years. I wash my face with a simple, gentle cleanser without any fragrances or alcohol (drying alcohol) and moisturize, that's it. Sometimes it feels very boring, but "nothing happens, but it doesn't bother my skin" is very important to me.
What cleanser do you use? I have been on a hunt for a gentle one!
@@bellam4094 I'm in Japan, so I may not have a much useful information, I use Japanese products for sensitive skin. SHISEIDO 2e, KANEBO freeplus, Kao Curel.
What cleanser do you use?
How long did it take you to get a normal skin
You’re the best. The way you inform me makes me feel so confident in the products I use/buy and am not beholden to market scams 🥰
"My cellar water" is what I call wine.
LOL, LOL, (-:
🤣
LOVE!! Lol
I Love this! 😂👌🏻
Best comment ever 👌🤣
I love that you recommend affordable options and not just crazy expensive products, having dermatologists like you and dr dray on youtube has helped me find products that don’t make my sensitive skin freak out and has helped me keep my skin clear!
Thank you so much for making this video! What I love about your videos is that you recommend the same products over and over. You really make navigating skin care easy. Some other You Tuber's recommend new products everytime they make a new video. There is no way to keep up and it gets confusing and expensive.
Thank you so much for understanding that sensitive skin is more than a challenge. The video was so helpful.
Dr Idriss is hands down one of the best Dermatologists online who explains everything so easily when it comes to treating skin! Obsessed with your content! 😍🙌🏻
Dr. Shereene, thank you for taking the time to educate us. It's very much appreciated.
This video helped me understand I probably do have sensitive skin.
I'd love it if you'd give more cruelty-free product recommendations as it's so hard to find ones that will not sting.
Thanks a lot and lots of love from Israel 🧡
You are literally the highlight of my Saturday morning 👏🏽❤️
Love that you made a video for sensitive skin . Please make more of those . ❤️
Your video on glycerin was a life saver. I cut HA out after that and my sensitive skin improved overnight. THANK YOU
Always brightening my Saturday with your videos! ❤️
finally someone explain sensitive vs sensitize skin, thank you dr shereene for the explanation!!
Thank you for all this info! I've had sensitive skin the last 35+ years! Your comparison to sushi restaurant during pregnancy is spot on. The quest for skincare is neverending. I sometimes find over the course of time products become irritating eventually or products get discontinued.
Right now I struggle with hyaluronic acid as it seems it is all the rage and in just about everything!
I had watched this video, twice!!.my sensitive skin toddler doesn't let me finish it... thank you Dr. Idris.
Thank you so much Dr. Idriss. My skin can drive me mad. It will go along fine, not reacting at all, and then something will happen and my skin will freak out. The Aveeno Calm and Restore products have been amazing, especially the cleanser. Thank you for looking out for us sensitive souls.
Adding all to my cart! 😂 Sooo thankful for this video! Vanicream has changed my life and I am so thankful you mentioned it several videos ago.🎉
Your honestly my favourite part about my weekend ( except no work and math 😅) I absolutely love watching your videos. There sooo informative, and u just have this beautiful personality. Honestly my biggest fear is that I’ll wake up one day and your videos won’t be hear… I mean your giving us all this knowledge for FREEE!!! And helping sooo many ppl with their skincare/ self care journey including myself. Your the reason why my skin is looking soo much better and healthy so thank u ☺️😁🙏
Your videos have educated me to understand my skin is actually very sensitive especially now in full blown menopause. I wash at night with Clinique Take the day off. Don’t wash in the am. Skinceuticals trilipid is amazing. So many of the products you mention are not available in South Africa but slowly I’m finding the right balance because now I know what to look for. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 😘 it has given me a simpler routine that my face just loves.
I APPRECIATE YOU SO MUCH for making this, my skin is getting more sensitive with age and I needed this video!
It would be amazing if you did a video on Perioral Dermatitis. All the different potential aggravators etc as there is so much bad info out there and I trust you so much! I've been battling it and eliminating so many things from this area of my face and I still get unending flare ups, I have no idea what I've missed or misunderstood! Much love from Aus
Finally! I've been loving centella asciatica products... It has been a game changer for me...
But I've been doubtful since i haven't heard anything thing from dermas about it. But I've been sticking to it.
I think you're one of the few who've mentioned it! Thanks very helpful!
I find this video extremely helpful and it’s interesting that we don’t have to spend a lot £ to have a great skin but especially to calm our skin down so , thank you so much for you time trying help us all with sensitive skin xx
When you know most of the things she's talking about and use most of the products she mentioned, because you're an avid Dr. Shereene Idriss follower! I'm so proud of myself T^T
My sensitive skin thanks you!
I would love to see your updated personal morning/night routines!
You make my saturday!! I loooove your videos and you!! Thank you for making the time in your busy life for us. 💞😄Saludos de Chile!!
What a great video! Thank you. Would love to see something similar for dry, sensitive scalp issues.
I'm so happy to see a video on this topic.. Love!
I LOVE you, never miss a video, so excited for this sensitive skin video (cuz I am one of them) but really would like products/treatment for blackheads!
Thank you SO MUCH Dr Shereene for all these amazing videos that you are making for us!
I am an Esthetician based in Greece, i've been in the Industry for about 23 years now, 12 of them selling drugstore based products and dermatologicaly recommended in pharmacies and for me being a skincare advisor ,having the perfect dermatologist sharing her knowledge with us,has improved my knowledge and understanding of the nature of/and science behind the skin SO MUCH!
I love how informative you are, how down to earth ,how educated, and last but not least, how funny you are!
I wish I could work with you!
It would be a dream come true!
Love you and keep them videos coming please 🙏💕
Thank you so much for this video. You help me understand my skin better and it makes a huge difference. Merci!
I have sensitive skin. And a makeup artist once told me to put vaseline or baby oil on my face at night and i was shocked.. and didn’t do it. But yesterday i did and thank you (and him). I love skincare and watching and reading about it so the bad rep for petroleum jelly made me stay away from it for so long.. even though I’d read about it’s benefits i would not dare to use it on my face. But coming from you, gave me confidence. So please make a video about misunderstood people ingredients like alcohol and petrolatum.
This literally helps so much! I'm so glad someone finally understands. I will walk into a shop and I'm like too scared to try something because I'm afraid it'll make my skin worse and it'll hurt.
The comparison of being pregnant in a good restaurant and trying to do skincare with sensitive skin is spot on. I'm allergic to topical Vit E (tocopherol) which is in SO many products. The Japanese sunscreens have saved me and keeping my routine simple. With advice from you and a few other good youtube Drs I've been able to use tretinoin this year (4days a week)!
Do you have any recommendations for a good Japanese sunscreen? And are you able to use them around your eyes?
@@sakshivinod9465 I love canmake mermaid and Isehan Kiss me mommy. Both are alcohol free and have such a great texture so it's easy to reapply throughout the day. I can use these under my eye and brow without a problem.
@@sakshivinod9465 Curél is also a great Japanese brand designed for sensitive skin and they have a few sunscreens as well which are non chemical
I was using vitamin e oil on my nails and it gave me so much eczema on my fingertips.
Me: has very oily and resilient skin which even managed to withstand accutane with comparitively little dryness or irritation
Dr Shereene: uploads a video about how to manage sensitive skin
Me: so interesting and relevant to me
We can all have sensitivities to things on occasion ...
... says the woman who used to use P50 and retinol in the same routine! My skin is quite resistant, I don't have to baby it.
Except when CeraVe reformulated their Hydrating cleanser, and it **burned* my face in the shower! [Not a real burn, but it felt like that.] Whatever they did to it DID NOT agree with my skin. I did baby my face for a few days after that, and the cleanser went right back to the store's returns desk.
Thank you for this video! I love the Vanicream cleanser! I'm going to try Vaseline under the eyes and on the lids before bed after Tretinoin. Im 57 and have dry sensitive skin. Love your channel!
Dr Idriss, we need a how to boost collagen video!!
I wish I was in NYC so I could book an appointment with you!! I love your content and know that you would recommend treatments that would be beneficial rather than trying to sell treatments for a profit. You are the bomb!!!
Sensitive all!❤
Thank you for all you doing!
This review was very helpful... thank you. My skin is very sensitive... I don't use anything that has any hint of fragrance including my laundry soap, bath soap. My skin care routine is very simple. I use the Neutrogena Ultra gentle daily cleanser ♥ This cleanser is so gentle, removes my eye makeup nicely without any irritation. I also use the Marcelle normal skin micellar water to remove my foundation, then I use my gentle cleanser afterwards. I moisturize my skin with CeraVe Baby lotion ♥ Sensitive skin needs TLC to be happy. Take care everyone :)
Yes watching with happiness - this is ME 🙌🏻💝
Can you discuss if different kinds of facial oils (grape seed, rose hip, etc.) are really that different in terms of effect. If so, how !! Also, are there any good specific brands or oil mixtures you would recommend?? Is it better to use one kind of oil rather than a combination or formula?? Does it matter where/how it’s sourced, whether or not it’s cold-pressed, etc. ?? Thanks so much. I’m an esthetician I’m school and obsessed w not only your content but your whole personality, aura and vibe!

I wait every Saturday for these videos! 😘😘😘
Great video thank you for all the product recommendations!
I have extremely sensitive skin that has allergic reaction to any kind of perfume/fragrance or essential oil in any kind of product that is supposed to apply on skin (from creams, shower gels, deodorant, you name it). I have to admit that it took a long time for me to realize what is triggering horrible reactions on my skin (my skin starts with itching, getting red with strong burning reaction that develops to swelling and changing texture - that happens immediately upon aplication, and always lasts for a couple of minutes that seems like eternity). I agree that it is very important to know your skin and to know products that works for you and what to avoid (I will never just blind buy a skincare product, no matter how promising it sounds or how good marketing is, I always ended with burning and swollen face and the product is just a waste of money).
Thank you for recommending Aveeno oat line, it is fantastic! I also love and use Cerave and Vanicream brands, La Roche toleriane line and Cicaplast, and will definitely try some new recomended products from this video 😊
Omg you explained how i feel about mu skin from time to time..like i got itchy then redness...i do think i have sensitive skin but sometimes i dont but thats because i dont do skincare often...i still dont know the culprit..it doesnt happen often but once it does, its annoying...so i used aveeno lotions
You’re speaking all my struggles!! I’m also allergic to every single sunscreen I’ve ever tried :( including mineral ones! What do you use?
@@sanaasayedd for the sunscreen, I have great experience and repeated multiple purchases of Paula's Choice skin balancing moisturiser spf 30, and for the more affordable choices La Roche Posay Anthelios Dry touch spf 50 and Garnier Ambre Solaire Fluid spf 50 - but my skin despite being very sensitive is combination type. I've never bothered with mineral or chemical filters in spf, rather I'm looking and preferring the texture that will be wearable throughout the day, to be tolerable for my sensitive skin and to match my skin type.
Thanks Doc,just restocked my Vanicream yesterday ☮️💟
Thanks so much for highlighting our gentle facial cleanser!
Please a video on how to repair broken skin barrier in depth for different skin types!!🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
I love your videos!!! I’ve learned so much from you. I’d love to see a video on peptides!
Good morning Dr Idriss!!☀️🤓💛
Have a great weekend!
Thank you, so helpful. I picked up the LRP B5 balm today and after one use, no issues! Hoping it helps my rosacea, acne prone skin. My skin seems to hate everything, so thank you for this video!
I love you how you explain so well I’m have dry, sensitive and redness on my cheeks thanks so much your recommendation I will definitely look into the products 😍💖
I feel this video so much. I literally have every aspect of sensitive skin that you listed. It’s so scary to try stuff cause most stuff burns cause of my rosacea. Even finding the basic stuff is super hard.
Rosacea is the worst!
So informative as always - thank you Dr. Idriss! I especially like that you mention more budget-friendly products, not only the expensive ones. Cannot get much more inexpensive than good old Vaseline! I'm sure the expensive products are great, but outside the budget for a lot of people. (-: Would love if you could do a future video sometime on menopausal (and sensitive) skin, I feel like my skin has gone haywire in the last 2yrs (53 yrs old) and has every problem, especially super sensitive and rosacea-prone. Thank you! Love from Ireland..xx
Same. A lot of the “holy grail” products for other sensitive skin people burns my rosacea skin :c
@@haileywaybright8945 same here! I haven’t even found my holy grail products cause mostly everything burns. Cerave burns LRP burns. Vanicream and dove soap is the only stuff I have found that doesn’t burn. 🤷🏼♀️ I hope your able to find your holy grail products cause I feel your pain. It’s not fun.
I tried pure glycerin no mineral oils and zinc in baby cream. But it varies between skins. I tested and it works.
Thank you for this! My face has been a burning itchy red mess and started recovering with the aveeno calming line
Great review ..... I use many of your products mentioned & like below keep my routine very
simple!
That Aveeno serum has done wonders for my nose & surrounding skin while suffering from a recent sinus infection!! I highly recommend for sore noses!!
I just recently bought a jar of Vaseline and it has worked wonders for my sensitive skin.
Yess omg, i just wondering when will you update again and then this video appear 😍😍😍
Thank you as always DOC💕💕💕
Thank you for this. When my Lupus is in a flare I have to be very careful what I use but when I"m not in a flare I can use a few things but still have to be careful and not use too many products. The less I use in a routine the better off I am.
She is telling the truth about people just jumping on a product and then dont know nothing about there skin but like giving products bad reviews .
My skin has always been sensitive but after getting diagnosed with hyperthyroid it went wild. I can only use some products, no fragrance and my skins was so dry for monthssss 😭😭 this video was great
The introduction story with being pregnant and not being able to eat everything was so spot on! 😅 So true
thank you so much for this video! I was hoping you can make a video for foundations/makeup for sensitive skin
Thank you for this, I have lupus ( and several other chronic illnesses but that’s the primary ) and I experience all of this.
Dr. Shereen your videos are always so entertaining to watch! And informative at the same time.
Really loved the products but sadly as a person with oily skin (with crazy oil glands!) which is sensitive at the same time. It's SO difficult to find soothing / anti inflammatory ingredients in the right consistency (gel / essence / fluid lotion).
Do you have any tips for people with oily, acne prone skin that have a sensitive/reactive skin?
My skin is fairly sensitive. The L’Oréal Paris vitamin C is the only one I’ve tried that I can tolerate. And like you mention- it’s like a make up primer! I love it! I have to rotate it with days I use tretinoin. My skin can’t handle both on the same day yet!
Ooooooh I’ll have to check that vitamin c out.
Love your videos Dr. Idris. Can you make a skin care tip video specifically for combination skin, please and thank you.
I discovered I've become allergic to lavender when I used a "relaxation mask" at a school relaxation event and it burned and I turned BRIGHT red for the rest of the day. It was not relaxing. I'm more careful with ingredients for my poor sensitive skin now. Great tips as always!
I’m allergic to lavender too!!! It’s in so many “sensitive” and “anti redness” products. I always want to use the dr jart products but I think they all have lavender. I can be sensitive to a bunch of essential oils and citrus oils too. Not like EXTREMELY sensitive but it kinda has a cumulative effect. For my whole life I chased what was making my skin so reactive, dumping on “natural” products from the health food store. They were def the problem!
linalool (in lavender) is a common trigger
One of the best sunscreens for super sensitive skin is the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Hydrating Sun Cream SPF50. It's very hydrating, but one of the only chemical ones I can use without my face burning, stinging or going red. I also love the LRP Cicaplast Baume B5!
This is just what I need!
Yaaasssss, thank you Dr Idriss!!!
I have been waiting for this one girl. ✨
Me and my sensitive soul/skin 😳
Thank you for the time and the thought you take to make these videos! I have learnt so much and excited to learn more. 🙏
Thank you so much for recommending the Triple Paste cream. OMG, my new holy grail! I moved to Wyoming recently, and my face was peeling off.
Thanks for the recommendation on vaseline. I have a very compromised skin barrier on my face and have found putting it on top of my extremely eczema prone areas after moisturizer at night has been helpful. Thanks for mentioning aquaphor as well, I had an immediate reaction from using it, because of lanolin. Excellent, informative video. Thanks for doing this super helpful work.
Hiya , hope is ok to ask but what producs do you use ? Thank you Lisa
MORNING our beautiful Little Nerd! hugs !
Omg thank you. That la Roche Posay cicaplast baume seriously saved my skin this past time my moisture barrier was damaged. It's really great.
How long did u use it for please? Been using it for a while now
I have eczema so I’ve always struggled with keeping my skin in control. To this day I try my best to take care of my skin- but nothing works..and I’m toooooo scared to try new products because I’ve broken out so many times in the past. Thank you so much for this(;
Salt.xo eczema bar and citrus bar. A good moisturizer
Wonderful tips here Dr. I have craizy sensitive skin. These tips helps
Dr. Idriss you are a fantastic communicator...thank you for teaching me about my very sensitive skin..how can I incorporate anti-aging products? Procedures into my perimenopausal sensitive skin?
I'm a Fitzpatrick 1 and have dry, rosacea-prone skin, and I have been loving the Skin Fix lipid restore body lotion. I use it on face and body, and it is really nice and moisturizing without being horrifyingly greasy. It is fragrance free, has ceramides, colloidal oatmeal, and rice bran oil, and you can get like a 10 oz tub for $45, which isn't super cheap but is worth it (at least for me) because a little really does go a long way and it's just so nice. Also been having good luck with Nivea's spf 50 water gel -- it is a non-US chemical sunscreen (made in Japan) and it does have hyaluronic acid, but it's fragrance free, leaves no white cast whatsoever, and man does it feel nice and hydrating on the face. I have also had success with Dr Different's (Korean brand) retinals; my face can't quite handle Differin but retinol does very little for me, so I'd totally recommend those.
I love all your skin care advise, it’s the highlight of my Saturday. I would love know if you use your phone to do your videos??? I love your format! And the advise. Thank u! Dr!
I started using Aveeno Serum and Avenoo Oatgel Moisturizer😌so far I like the effect on my skin, it leaves me a smooth feel in my skin😊
So happy to see you cover this topic Dr Idriss. My brand formulates for sensitive skin. I prefer the wording ‘no added fragrance’ over ‘fragrance free’. ‘Fragrance free’ can still include essential oils, to which my skin is sensitive (as would be many with sensitive skin) and yet some products will have a natural scent which does not come from essential oils and does not cause any irritation - like the natural smell of Rooibos tea in my products. I’m interested to know your thoughts on Vitamin C - L Ascorbic Acid. You mentioned not using products with high pH like some cleansers but did not mention low PH which can also be irritating. I am unable to use LAA but am ok with other Vit C derivatives because of the higher pH. Do you recommend Vit C serums to your clients with sensitive skin and if so which ones? Thank you so much. Bev 💚
So glad someone mentioned this! I would actually trust “I scented” over “fragrance free” because every second product that is “fragrance free” has essential oils. Um, what? Take sukin for example, big chemist brand sensitive skin focused company, list of exclusions (including fragrance) as long as your arm then has essential oils. Did no one tell drug companies people with sensitivities to fragrance have sensitivities to essential oils? What possible reason would one not want fragrance but then be happy to receive essential oils? They are one and the same!
I would like to see a video about acne prone skin and/or oily skin next :)
One thing to be aware of, if you experience a reaction to an essential oil (often used for fragrance) be very careful trying other esstional oils as if you are allergic to linalool (like me, found out through patch testing) they use varying concentrations of this fragrance enhancer in almost ALL plant and fruit oils (which are used for fragrance). After finding out I was allergic to linalool my derm said not to use anything with fragrance, even shampoo and conditioner, which is a major struggle.
Omg the intro she said about sensitive skin is😭😭 thats soo true, cannot buy or try all the facy products😪 cant even use vit c, i feel my skin does better without actives on daily basis. Need more videos on sensitive skin pls❤
Ha! proud to be a Super Nerd!
Please do a video discussing laser treatments for rosacea.
Avene Cicalfate is one of my HG products. really good for when my skin gets sensitive and dry during colder months.
I wanna try the avene products but my skin is so sensitive:(
Thank you so much Dr Idriss! I have purchased that Vanicream face cleanser because of you. I already use the lotion as recommended by my dermatologist (I have discoid eczema!)
I felt like I wasted so much money on skincare that were too harsh for me (Paula’s Choice vit c and retinol in particular 😑) … the search continues
'Cooling' lotions give me a burning feeling! Eg those refreshing L'Occitane summer cooling moisturiser gels.
Going to pick this up today want to build a skincare routine but to scared when you really never know what works so thank you for this video and I’ll let you know how it goes.
Wow!
Finally somebody who understands.
Your videos are eye-openers!
I would love to see a video on a wider variety of essences. After the SK-II video, I have been wondering about your opinion of other, less expensive essences.
You're so pretty doc!
Affordable recommendation : my holy grail thick and rich moisturizer that’s super cheap and large tub is Vanicream facial cream! i use it every night after retinol and i have very sensitive skin with rosacea and eczema. it’s practically like vaseline the way it locks everything in and it’s one of the only products that doesn’t burn or itch my skin at all; it has changed everything for me. vanicream is the best brand out there
Thank you so so much for understanding the dilemma we live in with skin care😢 everything is pretty looking and promising sounding. All of you’re videos are helping me so much.
