- Hollywood loves ridiculous explosions - and movie stars usually walk away from them unscathed. We had Columbia University explosives engineer Rodger Cornell rate five more explosion scenes from action movies. He breaks down how realistic these scenes really are. This time, Rodger looked at scenes from adventure movies like “The Rundown,” “No Country for Old Men,” “Spectre,” “Drive Angry,” and “Man on Fire.”

He looks like a combination of Tom Holland and Hugh Jackman lmao
Can't be unseen now omg
More like a grown up tom holland
With a pinch of Gabe from the office lol
So.... Taron Egerton?
Goose I thought so as well
i get that there alot of inaccurate film explosions, but it wouldve been nice to see an example of an actual accurate explosion ya know
The explosion of a bridge in "The Good The Bad and The Ugly". That's an actual one!
US army vids
Right? Super annoyed that they were all bummers.
I think the second set piece in Spectre was meant to be just that.
BlackEagle352 lol
So all you gotta do is just turn away from something, and it automatically explodes?
Hello brother.
Why are all my ex still alive.
*turns away from responsibilities*
Ok TF is this comment replies.
Fast and furious would like to know your location.
Agreed. That series would win awards for most unrealistic scenes. Lol
@@peanutbutterandjelly5760 Most unrealistic plot even😂
He's like the two spidermen in one
Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire
Too short. I would like to see more of this guy and find out what he thinks is the most realistic explosion in Hollywood.
there is a longer prequel episode
Rodger: explains what the villain is doing when he’s lighting the car on fire
Me: wow that’s actually super smart, this could be a realistic explosion
Rodger: “that wouldn’t work. Here’s what I would do...”
Me: oh yeah totally that was so stupid of them
I am a bit confused with the pressure thing.
In college, I poured half a gallon of gasoline in an open dumpster filled with branches. (We also made a fuse out of gas down the side of the dumpster over the ground to about 10 feet away. )
The resulting explosion was heard over a mile away. The branches were launched from the dumpster to about 5 feet away (and on fire). The dumpster itself was bowed in front and behind.
So, not a "trash candle" which is what we were actually going for.
We need more of this guy 😍
Thank you random explosives engineer for teaching me how to blow up a car effectively
1:22 he looks like eggsy from Kingsman 😅
He looks like a buffed up Tom Holland
Imagine the guy forgot to press record @4:10
More explosions with this guy, please, he's awesome. I can imagine how much of a torture is to review some of these mentioned here.....
one thing I know, the cool dudes casually walk away from the explosion with a bit of a slow motion style as if they didn't care about the destruction just to make it cool
That spectre movie single handedly drove us like a year towards the end of the world
Mans really just taught us how to blow up cars
Michael Ostin yup! That's why he's fun at parties!
That scene where the actor is walking away in slow motion from a huge explosion, acting all cool, has become such a cliche in hollywood
I took a hazardous material course and let me tell you gasoline does not explode it is marked under flammable so it will just light like a candle and stay burning until deprived of oxygen, under certain circumstances if it is pressurized in a container the expansion of the pressure will make the container explode but never the gasoline, so true what this expert has said.
*extreme green screen explosion effect intensifies*
"Cool guys don't look at explosions"
"They blow things up. And walk away"
Steve0 ‽ so the guy in the video explaining this is not cool?
Now explain why monsters explode when killed by Ultraman.
It doesn't matter, the more unrealistic the cooler they look while walking away form it
-4 Subscribers with a hammer addiction that's such a kiddie thing to say
Hopefully somebody won’t try to do this in real life.
I love this you know I watch all the videos like every day do you
He looks like Tarren edgerton, Tom Holland and Hugh Jackman in one.
5:33 True, only something like a incendiary shell would ignite anything.
any explosion, ever:
explosion expert: that wouldn’t even explode.
He should react to the explosion in Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. That was immense!
Wow..actually learned something
Anton Chigurh's Car Candles? That's a business venture fit for The Shark Tank!
Try reviewing the hurt locker
That's amazing plX bring up the video on how did they pregnant belly in movies
Can he confirm if cool guys do not in fact look at explosions?
I was really hoping the man on fire scene would be covered lol
Kim Jong Un would love this
I'd love to talk to this man while having a glass of gasoline.
Can you do a VIDEO of the most realistic explosions ever with old mate?
Nice
Oh no. _he's returned._
I would like him to rate realistic explosions
Wish they had done National Treasure, The boat exploding is my favourite movie explosion.
Remember this scene where an agent and a kid explode sumthing and walk coolly away. The kid looks back and the agent moves head back to front LMAO
How about the explosions in every power ranger series
Make my explosions grow!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tell him to review a Road Runner cartoon next.
all this good information and i'm laughing at The Rocks stupid double shotgun.
Basically Hollywood does a terrible job picturing explosion, which is a surprise for no one
This makes me want to become an explosives engineer. But where can I use that?
You still have to agree that no country for old man is still a Great movie
U back
He looks like the hydra guy that kills the scientist from captain America
The same actor in the hobbits
Soooo... Junkrat?
Explosion artist: *exists*
Isis: Am i a joke to you
He said we're made of "wourder" 😂😂😂
We got another Brad Leone on our hands
I can sleep at night knowing a watch bomb cant do ish. Thank you.
Car candle 😂😂😂
I know I'm very late to the party, but would still like to know an expert opinion on Beneath Hill 60 too
Damn, was hoping to see Forest Gump running away from the bombs in Vietnam carrying Bubba.
Probably a little more believable than some movies, given he was running from napalm disbursed by explosives, not that it was that believable. The worst in my memory is when Jackson and Geena Davis run from an explosion, halfway down the hall. I'd swear they were running for three seconds after the "grenade" went off, outrunning the explosion. Trying to outrun explosions always kills me. The moviemakers seem to have zero clue as to the speed of explosions.
All I learned is that if the gas tank does not have gas, there will be no fire or explosion
Every movie car accident has lied to me about the importance of a leaking gas tank
Hollywood does like their explosions
I've seen bullets cause Sparks when hitting at concrete lol, that last one is definitely possible but not the explosion
Use the explosion scene from 6 underground where the terrorist van blows up
3:05 I thought it was Kojima for brief sec 😅
Yeah
What about the nos scene from fast and the furious
the title says it all.
Wheres d darkknight scene where the jocker blasts the hospita
There should be a law for production companies to plant trees if they use any sort of fire in any kind of work.
SO ein Feuerball Junge! BAM!
Ask him about the plane explosion in die hard 2.
Boom shakalaka tura.....
😆
I'm pretty sure the rundown explosion is true you ever throw a bunch a gas on something and it just blows up in a big flame now imagine all that gas on fire on a car
The gas cap could have EASILY melted
I will never be ok with a blonde James Bond.
So when my tank is always half empty my car will never explode?
What about Mad Max fury road. That one is completely realistic right?
Wait...there is actually an explosive expert?
Forget the video who is he? 🤤
Yur boi looks like a beefy Tom Holland
Bring back the "real" explosions in movies and get rid of the CGI ones
His name is Cornell and he studied in uni of columbia
They should’ve showed him the explosion from the other guys.
Nice! Lemme just go *blow* up my car
I've heard his friends don't invite him to the cinema much anymore, it's not clear why.
You forgot the star wars' explosions
He should review the Fifth Element. The huge explosion in the main lobby in paradise apparently was real.
Most movie explosions are 'real', in that they are made in reality. But they are not 'real' in that being representative of what they are meant to represent. A grenade won't give a ball of fire for example, but that's what the movies show. The ball of fire explosion IS real (often), but it is caused by something other than a grenade.
In similar vein while the explosion seen in Fifth Element (one of the best comedies I've ever seen...even though it's supposedly the exact opposite of a comedy) may be real, it almost certainly is NOT how that explosion would look if the scene was actually real and the same sort of supposed explosives were used with the same size (though I don't remember after all this time whether the material was even mentioned and real and what not, but you get the idea).
Yes, 2 years late, but that's only double of how late this comment is!...That counts for something, right...
Would it even be possible to get a cars gas tank to explode seeing as they're all vented?
Water expert reviews water in movies
he just taught quarter a mil people how to explode a car
what is the day to day job of an explosives expert?
The guy looks like a action star before his trasfortmation
So why DO cars often explode in a big flame (latest one on RUclips to see on a highway)? According to the expert here cars don't explode in big flame explosions. I am confused.
Firstly diesel doesn't ignite with a flame only unlike petrol so no matter how many bullets Or torches you put on a trail or tank of diesel most likely the fuel in the tanks of trucks it won't ignite there is a reason the diesel engine needs a compression cycle it needs very high temperatures to ignite or a normally high temperature and high pressure.
Anyone else feels like this guy looks like a discount Hugh Jackman?
Why is spiderman explaining explosions?
Michael Bay has left the chat
Why the new thumbnail?
Is he from Philly ?
Movies are such a waste of time, i never watch them but I love these sorts of videos where they take them apart. So as much as I hate movies I thank them for providing mostly nonsense for these experts to dissect.
He looks like a buffed up Tom Holland😀🤣🤣
He fineeeeeeeeeeeeee
So basically he just told us how to blow up a car correctly...
How come he did not review Mad Max Fury Road explosions
