It doesn't matter how realistic or unrealistic the casino security, storage, or heist of Ocean's 11 is. It's impossible simply because in order for them to 'walk out' with 160 million dollars, each one of Ocean's crew would have to carry over 300 pounds (136 kg) of cash. I have to say that our scene was more realistic than you give it credit. The movie is a farce, so of course some of it isn't real, like all the attention on the table. But the dealer calling out "splitting fives" is exactly what we do when something strange happens. The scene is so realistic, that you had to point out the pit boss & floorman wouldn't hide their mouths, which is true. But nitpicking. I'd like to be the expert on these casino things.

Because you’ve been conditioned by society to view casinos as “the bad guy” even though that isn’t true. Media and society like to portray them as an evil money grubbing entity, simply because people lose money there. That just doesn’t fly. A casino is a place for entertainment. You go there to have fun, and gamble if you want to. No one who has ever lost money in a casino has lost it due to outside forces. People choose to gamble, people choose to use their money there. It’s not the casino, it’s the player. People don’t know when to quit, or just not gamble in the first place. The one thing in heist movies that absolutely cracks me up every time is that the robbers will walk in in a stolen uniform, or dressed like Elvis etc, with their face fully in view, then walk right up to a surveillance camera, then the viewer sees the robber character on the camera screen looking DIRECTLY into the camera and THEN the camera gets spray painted. The robber has walked past who knows how many cameras already, and then looks into a camera from two feet away and then spray paints one? Come on. 🤨🙄

Card counting is statistic, so when ignorant people catch on that you win more than you lose, they can just bet the way you bet, and also win more than they lose. The count room skim scheme in "Casino" was based on a real thing, but there's a lot about how that worked which was condensed and dramatized for the film.
The real skim was crazy-elaborate--involved false walls that they'd use to hide the skim money, and then someone not related with the count room at all would find another way to get inside the wall and harvest the skim. It definitely did not entail a "fat f--k walking out with a suitcase".
Also the skim mostly involved coins rather than paper money, because the coins were generally sorted and then weighed on balances, and by slipping in fake weights it was quite easy to cook the books.
But that would've been too difficult even for Scorcese to adapt, so the process was simplified for the film. The book the film was based on tells the true story of the skim--it's a very short read and I highly recommend it.

Every time that Casino clip comes up I have the same question, and in this one they actually mention the dealer peeking at their hole card: when is that necessary? My blackjack knowledge is limited, but in the options I know the value of the hole card doesn't need to be known until the point it would be public.
EDIT: found the answer, guess Google decided to be friendly this time. In the US if the dealer shows an Ace or 10-value card they have to check if they have a natural Blackjack, in which case the hand is immediately over before any more player actions. I learned the game on a computer program that did Insurance instead for those situations.

...but why? It's not worth the attention.
    The trick to counting is
    1. Know basic strategy (this is simple memorization that you should know if you're going to play blackjack anyways)
    2. Be able to add and subtract 1
    3. Stay under the call out bet limit. Best casino I've been in had a $15 minmium bet on a double deck table and only called out bets over $100... easy 1:6 spread. However being nice and tipping the dealer (often by just adding $5 to my bet and throwing a chip towards the dealer until I lost) made it so that... at a minimum... that casino didn't care.

Blackjack player: _Puts down $1,000,000 on one and first hand_
Dealer: _Looks for Pit Boss to see if it's ok_
Pit Boss: *Nods head* That's OK
    Player: _Hits blackjack_
Pit Boss: That's illegal. You're not allowed to keep your money or play here again. Goodbye.

So I was at a strip casino and actually witnessed a dealer slip a 1k chip under a stack of $5 to pay off a player on a craps table. Both the player and the dealer looked at me after and gave me a look. So I cashed out of the game and moved to a whole other casino for the rest of the day. I wanted no part of being thought of involved in that mess.

It would be very difficult to get away with that as usually, the big chips are monitored by a supervisor at the table. Plus there are two more dealers

@@tonyberk94121 well i was at Bellagio and saw a yellow 1k chip under 4 red $5 chips and it was pushed over to a player and it wasn't staggered to show the cameras. So take it for what it is worth.

Id never play at a casino. The odds are stacked against you and this guy just said if your winning they will ask you to leave because "your actions to hot for us". ohhhh well your actions too cold, i won't be wasting my money at a scam business.

The placebo effect is very real and powerful. A cooler will work if the gamer knows there's a cooler at the table and believes in his bad luck.

one thing to remember is cheating a casino you will get caught sooner or later and they don't look kindly on cheaters.

I remember a casino heist movie called "Hells Angels 69". The two protagonists are idiots who mess with two organisations you don't want to mess with: LV casinos and the Hells Angels.

Does this guys voice remind anyone else of Jon Favreau? (The guy that played Happy Hogan in the Marvel movies) Could listen to him talk about this all day.

The card counting thing is not true. I once knew a guy that was a math genius. He was a guy that could multiple any number in his head. Like rainman but not autistic. Probably the smartest man i ever met. The first day he started counting cards he made 20k and when he retired was a multi millionaire. Although like half was won in stocks he still won millions by taking casinos.
