Good morning, afternoon, evening. Thank you for all the wonderful content! I don’t know if you take suggestions this way, but I would like to make a suggestion for you to watch Mafumafu’s Tokyo dome online live. I won’t get into the details but it is a live performance with Japanese songs (including originals and covers) and it is really impressive, I would love to see your reaction to it !! It doesn’t have to be the full 2 hour concert, I’d already be more than happy to see you react to even one song :D.

I have heard some of your reactions from Mexican music, and unlike many other reaction videos you enjoy the music and share the JOY, which is great to spread the music, this song is the rock and roll version of an anonymous 300 hundred year old song. I really recommend you watch (translate) this video for the full history of the base song (ruclips.net/video/cwxX1Nf1fyQ/видео.html. Also as a tid bit. When The plain fell killing this trio of artists, This incident became known as “The Day The Music Died,” after Don McLean coined it in his 1971 song, “American Pie.” (research this song as it portrays a time in history) so sad that it triggered Charles Fox to write about how "American pie" song deep & meaningful, "Killing Me Softly with His Song" with lyrics by Norman Gimbel. The lyrics were written in collaboration with Lori Lieberman after she was inspired by a Don McLean performance in late 1971. Denied writing credit by Fox and Gimbel, Lieberman released her version of the song in 1972, but it did not chart. The song has been covered by many other artists. -- finally La bamba as originally sung by mariachi ruclips.net/video/Z4O3c2j3Xpw/видео.html

Hello, the actor who prortrayed as Richie Valens is a well-known actor in Hollywood, His name is Lou Diamond Philip - he is half Filipino, half American. Some of his movies are Young guns 1 and 2, Stand and Deliver, La Bamba to name a few, some Broadway hits because he can actually sing too.........

The audio and the rest of Ritchie Valens' (Valenzuala) music for the movie was done by Los Lobos a Chicano/Mexican-American band. The movie was directed by Luis Valdez, who started El Teatro Campisino (The Farmworker's Theater), working in the Farm Worker's Movement (Cesar Chavez and Delores Huerta). Valdez directed the movies Zoot Suit and the Ballad of Gregorio Cortez (two of my favorite movies). Lou Diamond Phillips plays Valens.
The Day the Music Died (referenced in American Pie) was February 3 1959 when Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper were killed in a plane crash. Valens was 17, just 8 months into his career. You should listen to his first hit, Donna. Valens was born in Los Angeles.
Los Lobos is band out of East Los Angeles. They started in the 70s and are still performing. East LA is important to the Chicano movement of the 60s and 70s. At that time it was the second largest Spanish-speaking city--Mexico City was the largest.
Sorry to get carried away. I was in school and university in the 70s and 80s. I was secretary of my junior college's LA Raza Unida. I later majored in Mexican-American studies at the University of Arizona. So many memories are tied up with Los Lobos, Valdez, etc.

Ritchie Valens died on February 3rd, 1959 in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa after a concert. Known as 'The Day the Music Died' the crash also took the lives of Buddy Holly, "The Big Bopper", and the pilot. (Waylon Jennings was also in that concert and lost his seat on the plane in a coin toss).
Ritchie was only 17 years old and was just starting to make it big - his first album hadn't even been released yet. Because it was 1959 all you will be able to find are audio recordings. Music video and MTV didn't exist yet. Unless you can find a television appearance or interview, radio recordings will be the closest to live available. Tragic...and amazing that his music and legend have survived this long.

*NO* that is not Ritchie Valens singing in this clip, it is *LOS LOBOS* who did the music to the movie. *Ritchie Valens* was born in California and like *SELENA* he did not know Spanish. He was a rocker of the 50s, he the *Big Bopper* and *Buddy Holly* were lost so young in a plane crash. I'm very proud to say Buddy Holly is from my area of Lubbock, Texas.
*FYI: *"American Pie"* by *Don McLean* is about the loss of those artists

Great reaction! You have to watch this movie, it's really good and tells his story. That is Richie Valens on the song track, Lou Diamond Phillips plays him in the movie. Would love to know if you do watch it and what you think.
Another singer who passed away too young, who was murdered is Selena Quintanilla. This was a fantastic movie that also tells her story.

The Big Bopper who sang Chantilly Lace which you should listen to, Buddy Holly who sang many songs you should listen to, and Ritchie Valens all died in the plane crash in Clear Lake Iowa. Ritchie also sang the song Donna which was very popular about his love for his girlfriend at the time who had to break up with him because of her parents, definitely listen to that one.

Richard Steven Valenzuela (May 13, 1941 - February 3, 1959.. his stage name Ritchie Valens, was an American guitarist, singer and songwriter. A rock and roll pioneer and a forefather of the Chicano rock movement, Valens died in a plane crash just eight months into his music career.[4]
Valens had several hits, most notably "La Bamba", which he had adapted from a Mexican folk song. Valens transformed the song into one with a rock rhythm and beat, and it became a hit in 1958,[5][6] making Valens a pioneer of the Spanish-speaking rock and roll movement. He also had an American number-two hit with "Donna".
On February 3, 1959, on what has become known as "The Day the Music Died", Valens died in a plane crash in Iowa, an accident that also claimed the lives of fellow musicians Buddy Holly and J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, as well as pilot Roger Peterson. Valens was 17 years old at the time of his death. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, The Native American Music Awards Hall of Fame, The California Hall of Fame, and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame…👍🏻😁🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I will add a little to what others have said that it was in 1959 that he died at the tender age of only 17 years old along with Buddy Holly who was only in his early twenties and "the Big Bopper" the "old man" at age 28! I was nine years old when " the night that the music died." From the song "The night the music died."You should check out the old movie "La Bamba." Ritchie's last name was shortened from Valenzuela. He also wrote and recorded a love song for his girlfriend named Donna, by the same title. When you see the movie, you will understand what became of the two prior to his death. Understandably, his family OR Donna never got over their loss.I think Donna might still be alive, so that's how I know!
    Cheers!!

Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly, and J.P., Richardson, who was better known as the big bopper, were all killed in a plane crash when they were leaving after a concert in clear lake, Iowa. Originally Waylon Jennings, the famous country singer, was one of the crickets, which was Buddy Holly’s band, gave up his seat on the plane to Ritchie Valens, because Richie wasn’t feeling well.

Bamba is a style of folklore music and dance from the state of Veracruz in Mexico. The main instrument is the harp , as opposed to a guitar. The costumes are beautiful and the music upbeat and fun. The best part is that the dancing couples bring a long piece of rope or a sash onto the dance floor and proceed to tie it into a bow using their feet.

Ritchie Valens was really born Ricardo Valenzuela! And his manager changed it to Valens to appeal to the regular American Public! His mother was a single mother who picked crops in the valley of California! His dad was never around like mine! He was Chicano like me which is Mexican American. And Lou Diamond Phillips played him in the Movie La Bamba and was not from Mexican decent like when J Lo played Selena! His guitar and first band was called Richie and his Flying Guitar! And you can why! There is the original black and white which was really him and then there was that shot from the movie which Lou Diamond Phillips really sang in! Then there is the Best Version from Los Lobos! His Brother was Bob who lived a Wild life with prominent 1% Biker Clubs! He never had a license his whole life and the police would hardly ever being him to jail! Bob was a free spirit and died about 10 years ago! Ritchie lost his life at the age of 17 with a flip of a coin of who would fly or drive to the next gig! He had a dream his whole life of dying in a plane! But since he was sick they flipped a coin a he won and wasn’t that thrilled other than he could get to bed quicker and on to the next gig! He wore a rattlesnake charm from a healer in Mexico Bob brought him too and once it snapped off in a fight between brothers he was cured because he never took it off! Like E-40 said who is a rapper from Vallejo he was a Timer/Tymer! Which means and OG and Legendary Big Time Old Timer! Sadly it his Music that got him to that status that is timeless and forever! So he is an anomoly because him and guys like Buddy Holly will live forever and are grandfathered in as an OG that died so young but are forever and Old School! Not to embarras anyone but I see so many of these first Time reactions to the Legend and Spirit of America from Americans and Africans and Europeans like how can’t they and don’t know? Like 100’s of clips of couples and single people doing this with a lot of them with 80 to 100k likes and watched and an blown away! It actually makes an OF tough guy who didn’t cry for 25 years straight cry of happiness from like a kid who just opened their first present Christmas morning and then crying for pain Ive had and relate too from these people and how sad it is mist are gone and so many people never experienced this with all the technology weve had for awhile now! It just goes to show people are using the internet for junk and filth mostly and when you see this its complete happiness and joy and gets me grooving again like when you and a girl were at a dance and times were so much more social and Fun as you can finally see now for yourself and how much you missed out on that was so Raw and Organic!!

Wow,! This one surprised me that you had yet to hear La Bamba! So glad you reacted to this clip from the movie. I loved his music even though it was before my time and Lou Diamond Phillips portrays Richie Valens (Valenzuela) so good! Thank you Luke! I think it’s Los Lobos maybe who sings in the movie, but I love Richie Valens’ voice! 🥹😢👏🫰🏻It’s not horrror movies like you enjoy, but hope you get around to watching it some time. He was known to carry his guitar everywhere too. He definitely was ahead of his time. Underdog who made it big and tragedy. If you know Bye Bye Miss American Pie, then it refers to the tragedy too. Please listen to his other well known song Donna. 💜💜💜

Funny story….. back when this movie came out in the late 80s, the song hit the radio waves again. I was shopping for a dress, in a very high end department store. All of a sudden music flipped on, and this song started. I squealed and started singing it and dancing in the mirror and around the racks! My husband was mortified and actually left the store! ( I eventually divorced the stick in the mud). I still get excited to hear this song.

No it never sounded close to me but both versions were great. Los Lobos re-did Ritchie's music for the movie, presumably to sound more like Lou Diamond Philips and because there is no recording of most of Ritchie's songs that sound like a clean, live voice. He had a live album but that still wouldn't sound right spliced into the movie, and everything else had that 50s studio slapback echo.

They covered it well but the original sounds better with Ritchie’s real voice. I like the raw sound of 50s recordings.
