Very encouraging news. As you say, this shows what can be done in Swindon town centre, with the necessary political will, foresight and resources. Thank you for the update!
I was wondering, with canals generally being well set up to maintain a constant height, do they help prevent flooding thus giving the developer another benefit ?
Yes, you can move water down from flood prone areas to rivers etc. the drainage from the building site and then the future road run off in storms comes into the canal here.
@@CourtAboveTheCut figured as much, the area looks naturally quite flat, so having run off channelled away by the canal makes a lot of sense, plus it makes the area look better
@ the section behind the bridge is currently a low section, whenever heavy rain happens there’s a pump back system to take the water back up the lock otherwise it floods at the bottom, it won’t when it’s all connected but at the moment it’s a big pond
You mentioned the previous and slightly more critical video. Any chance for a posted link? I understand at least one developer was potentially going to block an expansion based on a petition that was circulating, but maybe that is older news.
Which bit? This isn't just one long canal, it's a major part of the canal network across the Thames Valley catchment. TBH, the project is *so* complex, with several active branches all doing their bit, it confuses the hell out of me!!

Fingers crossed they are listening to everyone who’s saying the same thing
What a fantastic project
@@colin125gwr it’s going to be great to cruise down both sections when they are joined
Woe what a fabtasric update.
I can’t wait for it to all be connected
Great progress 👍👍

Good to see lots of progress. Is the Wilts & Berks canal the longest under restoration?
Yes, it is! It’s 72 miles, I’m not sure what the second longest is to be honest but not many are that long
Right, I’ve tapped the notification….

I am surprised how wide the canal is in this area
@@QALibrary it was the previous summit so was a wide canal to act as a reservoir
@@QALibrary btw congrats on the free month to my channel, you get early access to videos as well as other videos, there’s loads there to dig through!
@@CourtAboveTheCutThe Wey & Arun's summit level is twice the depth of most of the rest of the cut, for the same reason.
@@TheHoveHeretic it was a common thing to do, without it the summit would struggle to maintain a navigable depth
Joined up thinking and a councillor or a politician is called an oxymoron.
Haha and a politician on their own is just a Moron
How long before the canal is linked up with the network
