@@3rdstreetreactions hi I love how to train your Dragon I have 1,2,3 i love how hiccup and Astrid got married. I think hiccup and astray are the perfect couple. but the ending of how to train your Dragon the hidden made me cry.
As for how Drago managed to control that Alpha dragon. He found it when it was still an egg and fear conditioned it as it grew up, using that staff of his. It's why he waves the staff around when commanding the Alpha. It's quite tragic, unfortunately.
So Toothless is able to glide in the air and use the air currents for a few moments without hiccup to steer. The back tails act like the ones on planes and it’s meant for balance and direction, that’s why toothless falls if hiccup isn’t on him and why he wasn’t able to fly away in the first movie. Hiccup has to essentially put the back wing on “Lock” so he can glide in the air. Hiccups mom stayed away because she believed that her belief of dragons being kind creatures would be rejected and pose a danger to her family and the village. The cool thing about Toothless lighting up blue in the end is that it forshadows the next movie and reminds everyone about what happened in movie 1. The book of dragons called Night Fury the “unholy offspring of Lightning and Death” and in this movie the blue glow references the lightning.
Thankyou for pointing that out about the tail having to be locked in place for Toothless to Solo glide. So far just about every reaction i've watched to the movie (and ive watched a lot) everyone misses the comment about the locked tail and or doesnt seem to understand that "gliding" isn't "flying" and Hiccup never said "solo flying" he said "solo gliding" as well as specifically mentioning that the "locked tail" makes for sloppy rescues. But everyone seems to miss that point. (maybe they are talking too much and not listening) One more thing, in the TV series there is an episode where Hiccup tries to give toothless a prosthetic type tail that will allow him to fly on his own but toothlees rejects it because of how attached he has become to Hiccup. Many things are explained in the TV series (some episodes being better than other some are just for laughs). For instance turns out eels are very toxic to dragons if they eat them. There are 8 seasons altogether the 1st 2 are on Peacock and Hulu and the last 6 are on Netflix. It covers the 5 years between the 1st and 2nd movies and you get to see many things Hiccups invents including his sword.
There is series "Dragon Riders of Berk" and "Dragon Defenders of Berk" and "Race to The Edge" Personally seen Riders and Defenders fully, years ago, don't remember how much Race to The Edge... But pretty nice series, with much different stories and dragons, kids definitely will love them if love movie. Only watching it weird to see Hiccup father alive.
Here's a long summation of my thoughts The parallels okay first of all i need to say about the parallels in this movie similar to the last one, Drago is missing his arm on the same side the alpha loses a tusk just like toothless and and hiccup losing things on the same side which adds to how he is essentially the opposite of hiccup, but more then that he also is made to look like a dark version of Stoick (hiccups dad) which further shows how they are opposites, (hiccup having a loving and protective spirit but weak body and Drago having a body similar to Stoicks but a cruel personality). another parallel is that Stoick is meant to represent the alpha (a bog bearded leader who protects his own, essentially showing why Valka (hiccups mum) felt comfort with the alpha, basically going to the dragon equivalent of her husband (it even comes out in the fact the only thing the alpha cant control is the children which is the same as Stoick in the first film), this is also driven home in the battle where we see Stoick fighting Drago and behind them the two alphas, one representing each of them (which your daughter noticed little side note the mother of hiccups separation is done so well, im glad one of you brought up Hughie and his mum because it really shows the huge difference between the characters. Hughie's mum left because of her own issues and when feeling better didn't return for little to no reason when it was an easy option to come see him if she really cared, but Valka chose not to come back because she thought she would hinder hiccup becoming a strong man like her son, she had been gone to long with them thinking she was dead, cloud jumper would be killed on the spot and her mission with Drago wasn't completed, she had all these reasons and still after seeing her son she instantly felt that she was in the wrong saying "where was I" and telling her husband he should be angry and that she messed up clearly being something she played in her head. its just wild to me how a family cartoon can handle this type of thing so much better. why Drago could control the alpha the item Drago uses and swings around is called a billhook which is used on elephants when they are very small to train them to do things by forcing them to move and harming them based on certain sounds, the implication is that the alpha was "trained" by Drago from a young age with it and dragons are smart enough to understand "if I hear this sound or see him swinging this around, it means pain if I dont do as he says" but not smart enough to realise their new size difference which is the same with elephants (and though its a horrific tool I love they put that much detail into it) in conclusion this is a cracking film (and thanks for reading my poorly written thoughts on it), there's way more to say about it and im glad your had positive opinions, the next film in my opinion is my least favourite but a okay ending to the series. (im thinking about making a RUclips video review of this film on my new channel but no idea of if its worth it lol)
He was able to control the big dragon cuz he raised it from an egg and tortured it into submission from its birth. This is implied or hinted at near the end of the Netflix series Race to the Edge but before that series starts there is Dragonriders Berk (adjusting to live with Dragons in the village) and Defenders of Berk on Peacock and Hulu. Race to Edge is on Netflix all of which take place between the 1st 2 movies and lead up to the 2nd movie. They kind of fill in the gaps and answer a lot of questions.
I love how to train your Dragon I have 1,2,3 of how to train your Dragon. Hiccup and Astrid are the perfect couple. the ending of how to train your dragon, The hidden world broke my heart.😢😢😢😢
Later on in the year of this films release they put out a 26 minute special called “dawn of the dragon racers” that shows how they came up with the dragon race sport
You should watch the series Dragons: Riders of Berk, Defenders of Berk and Race to the Edge, they dive deeper into what happened on that 5 year gap between the first film and this. They expand on Hiccup and Astrid's relationship, Hiccup and his dad, as well as flesh out the rest of the gang, and how Berk adapted to living with dragons. You should also watch the Gift of the Night Fury holiday special because the events of that are referenced in the next film.
Gober was to die ,but changed to Stoic to have more effect. Hiccup didn't want to become Chief .As he didn't think he would be capable. But with his Fathers death it became necessary. Lovely family reaction. Thanks
THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE ANIMATED MOVIES! Thank you so much for this. Here's hoping you watch more dreamworks projects. If the kids haven't seen please check the old ones in 2D too: The Prince of Egypt, Road to El Dorado, Sinbad, Spirit... some of these are better than disney movies in my opinion, and I feel they're a bit more mature than disney as well which is great.
Again please tell me you guys will be reacting to the shows (riders/defenders of berk-race to the edge) too. They may not be needed for the films but they are still quiet entertaining and give more screen time to the other characters (both the shows (the shows that matter) take place between 1 and 2)
Yo Shane, agree with Evangeline (cutie pie) the second movie is better then first. Thought it was cool Malachi prediction, something gonna happen to Hiccup's parents when things going too smooth. Leeauna had a brief eye cleaning moment, shows the quality of this film . Loved the whole reaction, again it is so cool you do this with your kids. When first seen Erit? character , thought the resemblance to the father of the 'Croods'. All of you enjoy your day.
I definitely loved the family reaction so cute 🥰 and this is where my viewing stops lol I hate the last one I just can’t forgive the betrayal lol but that’s my opinion. you should def still see it yourself
“You’re as beautiful as the day I lost you” is a line that always makes me cry and I can’t stop the tears.
This is one of my favorite trilogies tbh. Idk if you noticed but Erit is actually voiced by John Snow's actor (Kit Harington)
That’s awesome!

why Drago could control the alpha
the item Drago uses and swings around is called a billhook which is used on elephants when they are very small to train them to do things by forcing them to move and harming them based on certain sounds, the implication is that the alpha was "trained" by Drago from a young age with it and dragons are smart enough to understand "if I hear this sound or see him swinging this around, it means pain if I dont do as he says" but not smart enough to realise their new size difference which is the same with elephants (and though its a horrific tool I love they put that much detail into it)
