If you're wondering how Drago controls the alpha it is heavily implied that he has had it since it was little. The staff he has is actually called a bullhook and is historically used on elephants to perform in circuses and such. Tamers would hit the elephant with it to make the elephant obey since they were little so when they grow to be much larger they still obey the commands since they are afraid of being hit again. I assume it is something like that happening with Drago and the Bewilderbeast

I like that stoick who is the chief and used to be the one giving the orders turns to his wife and son and ask them what to do since they are the dragon masters it shows character great development

If Valka returned to “check up” in Hiccup, then Stoick wouldn’t rest until the dragon he thought kidnapped his wife and scarred his son was bone and paste.
Valka didn’t want to risk Cloudjumper coming with her, or worse following her if she left without him. He would have instantly jumped into battle if anyone so much as threat we’d Valka, and likely would have killed sometime - like how Toothless acted in the Kill Ring with the Vikings and the Monstrous Nightmare.
The worst case scenario is the Alpha finding out that Cloudjumper followed Valka, and *died.* The Alpha would have flattened Berk for killing one of his dragons, as his ice breath is no joke. One Bewilderbeast was capable of turning a fortress into a massive chunk of shattered wood and ice, imagine what one with an entire army of dragons could do to Berk - like in the end of the movie.
Valka was completely justified in staying away for Hiccup and Stoick’s safety. If she came back, and something went wrong, blood would have been spilled big time.
She had to stay away in order to protect the Berk population

Stoick himself was a byproduct of generational tradition, that doesn’t make him shitty. He’s a Viking that was raised to kill dragons, and his son struggles with that. Mix that in with the trauma that his _wife was supposedly killed by a dragon_ and you get a man who is bitter against a species causing every major problem in both his professional and personal life.
Actually analyze the film instead of jumping to the unsubstantiated conclusion of “shitty parents”. There are reasons for the way they are, making them not shitty - but human. Stoick literally died to save Hiccup, and Valka put her life on the line to protect her son as well.
They are far from bad parents, just flawed.
Astrid said "babe" because their love-interest developed in the Dreamworks Dragons TV series which is set between the first two films and is considered canon.
I mean, in this movie Stoick did say she was his "future daughter-in-law", so they're practically engaged in this film.
The concept behind the 2 alphas is just showing the difference between love and fear/nature and nurture, valka commanded the alpha out of the nest in a sort of way even though the size difference is massive and could easily kill her, but their relationship is mutually beneficial since valka saves dragons, and her bewilderbeast is an alpha, and has a nest, and she acts as a 2nd in command since she can control the dragons in the nest because they love her,
dragos alpha was controlled out of fear, although he could just get stepped on, and is mutually beneficial in a more dark way, drago has all the power in the world, and his alpha doesn't die if he listens to drago
Kung fu panda for sure but you gotta check out how to train your dragon: the hidden world
Fun fact: that scar on his chin was there in the first movie, and throughout the series. They didn't just add it to the model for this one.
Yh this was a sequel to behold to. And by the way, Toothless does not need to control the dragons. He can do it, since he’s an alpha but he doesn’t need to. It’s like Hiccup said, earning a dragon’s loyalty can earn you a lot more than forced obedience, in a way similar to the other alpha that Valka had that did not necessarily use it’s ability to bend the dragon to it’s will. Same goes for Toothless from now on, he doesn’t necessarily need to use the trait to obey them, cause they respect him to obey him without question.
Oh and if this nearly made you cry, Kung fu Panda 2 will surely make you cry. That’s how emotional it is.

Drago found the Bewilderbeast's egg and raised him with abuse, torture and fear, which is why he can control it. The video was really fun to watch, ngl I cried like a baby for 15min when I first watched Stoic's death. It really broke my heart. Hope you guys can watch the last part of the trilogy! (Hidden World)
Growing up with these characters was really special to me 💕
Firstly, knowing Berk (or just most people) are hostile towards dragons, it's a risk to use a dragon to take Valka back there or to just even check on her family. In addition, her conscience is most probably what made her stay after her people killed thousands of them. So, it's like her way of "making it up to them." She probably also thought that by staying, she can avoid more casualties on both sides.
Yes, her family is more important and should've chose them, but that's exactly why she stayed. I mean, did you see how everyone treated Hiccup including his father just for being unable to kill a dragon? that man also said he's not his son when he found out he has been making friends with dragons. Valka doesn't know about that and Stoick might not be able to say hurtful things towards his wife for believing that dragons aren't really sinister (?) creatures, but it was most certainly a possibility that her mere belief may ruin their family.
Basically, Valka was worried on how would Stoick react if he ever finds out her view of dragons knowing how much he hates them. And that she might influence her son into believing the same thing, which could give Stoick the chance to take it out on him and she would never want to see what Stoick might do/say to their son if he finds out.
Therefore, I think what she meant by "to protect them" is to protect her son, at the very least, from being "influenced" by her. She just could've never imagined that her son will turn out like her anyway and start a revolution.
Though it is kind of ridiculous how they all did a complete 180° after Hiccup showed them that the dragons are not what they think they are, it would be even more ridiculous if their view didn't change after a dragon literally just risked its life to save someone. Besides, changing their view is literally the point of doing all that.
I’d HIGHLY recommend the next movie you watch be Rango. It’s a beautifully animated movie with an even more amazing plot. And while it’s rated PG, it feels like a more mature movie that grown ups can enjoy. So please take my advice and react to it. You won’t regret it! Thank you! 😊💜
Also it has an... interesting animation style. Everyone is ugly (I say that with affection because there are no "conventionally beautiful" characters as a result of that, I like the style, it's unique and there's nothing like it :3) lol

Even if you don't react to them, the Gift of the Night Fury and Dawn of the Dragon Racers shorts are amazing and further develop some of the characters. Both take place between the 1st and 2nd movie in the timeline.

The tall black haired man seen standing next to Stoic when discussing there plan to invade the nest at the beginning of the 1st movie. Is Snotlout's father and Stoics Brother.

When you watched the series of "how to train a dragon" than the scene of haudrauf dieing is even more sadder. Because between the two films (the 1th and 2th) Haudrauf a really nice character.

Mom is actually understandable because she lived with dragons, berk were still killing them for like 15-16 years from hiccups birth and she always thought they didn’t like dragons the whole 20 years cause you see she didn’t even believe hiccup when he said everyone at berk had dragons so I would forgive her too
