Many thanks Lynda, I’m glad you enjoyed this small piece of history and looking around the estate. All the best🩷
Many thanks Alan, that was a delight and so full of detail. Take care.
I’m glad you enjoyed watching Christine, have a lovely weekend.
Hi Alan and Sally, hope you had a lovely day looking around the estate. Thanks for showing us around and for all the detailed information Alan, much appreciated.
I’m glad you enjoyed watching Paul, it was a fairly quick late afternoon visit, we left at closing time. All the best.
Hi Alan and Sally. That sparked a memory from 26 years ago, for me.
As an Assistant Divisional Officer in the Operations Dept at West Yorkshire Fire Service, I was tasked with producing an Operational Fire Plan. This would be used in case of a fire occurring in the hall or great barn.
It listed all the water mains available, plus pumping areas by the pond.
I also listed all the valuable items that could be salvaged during and after a Fire.
Anything that could be lifted and carried into the great barn.
I know the most valuable items in that house, but can't disclose what these are, for obvious reasons.
Interestingly, you picked up on the fact that none of the items within the house, other than the corn store, are actually original to the house. They are all brought in to try to and match the time period of different rooms.
The structure of the house is really quite good. Even the semi derelict walls in the wing.
The Great Barn is, in itself a good example of the method of roof trussing. The roof is very large for a barn.
Thank you Alan for a very informative tour of East Riddlesden Hall.
Hi Harry, that was an informative recollection of your involvement with East Riddlesden Hall, thank you so much for that, your work must have been very interesting. Many thanks for watching, I'm glad it 'sparked' memories for you. All the best, have a great weekend.
Evening Alan and Sally, what a beautiful old house, makes you wonder just what it was like back in the 1700's, what a place to live. Another Yorkshire gem! Many thanks for sharing.....🍷🍷
Evening Steve, quite a cosy sort of property, NT call it intimate. Certainly would have been more rural and no canal in the early 1700s. All the best, thanks for watching 🥂
Hi Alan, well done again! Don't ever stop!! Greetings from Adelaide South Australia...
Greetings Jurgen, thanks for watching and commenting, glad you enjoyed this visit.

I'm so glad you did🤠
That was a really enjoyable video. A really interesting place to visit. Thanks.
I’m glad you enjoyed it Mel, thanks for watching.
Hi Alan and sally. Love the new way your channel has gone. Please continue this. GG says woof
That’s very kind of you to say, thank you. Reggie says woof woof to you.
That ornate ceiling was something else 🙂
It was rather special 🤠
We weren't sure if we'd enjoy an historic video as much as we do canal adventures. Turns out, you've done a masterful job on this video and we're looking forward to more of this type in the future. Cheers!
That's very kind of you to say Roger, thank you so much. Unfortunately, this sort of video is not as popular as cruising videos, so gets less viewers but is more complex and time consuming to make because of the research, narration and editing involved. I will though continue to publish a mix of heritage videos of all sorts, so please keep an eye out, I'm sure you'll find something of interest. All the best.
Well done, I enjoyed the vlog.
Thanks Hugh, good of you to say.
Lovely location Alan, I’m quite partial to the Yorkshire countryside too. Cheers
Thanks Chris, I’ve always loved visiting Yorkshire. Hope you’re keeping well. All the best.
Hi Alan, what a beautiful building! So many features. Also bits being swapped about, like the fireplace and stairs. That was a lovely vlog xx
Hi Jenny, I'm really glad you enjoyed this episode, as this type of video is not so popular and yet it is quite time consuming to prepare xx
Hi Alan, it was a beautiful, interesting building, so therefore, interesting.
Things aren't good for me at the moment. 😢xx
A very interesting video, keep up the good work, take care.
Many thanks, very kind of you to say. All the best.
Hi Alan loved the video, very interesting, I’ve never heard of a lot of these places so it’s great that you take the time to show us around. Have great week 😊
Hi Sandy, I’m glad you enjoyed watching, this type of vlog is less popular, so I’m pleased it suited you. All the best, take care🤠
Alan you are always so respectful asking if it’s ok to film. I hope you and Sally are enjoying the start of the new year
Hi Ginger, the National Trust didn’t allow filming in some properties, it’s better now though, but it’s still polite to ask. We’re having a good New Year, thanks, and hope you are.
@@MyNarrowboatVenture Doing well. We got 7-8 inches of snow last night. Another 4-6 predicted for tonight then temps dropping to 2° Fahrenheit so winter has found us
That must make life difficult. We don’t have snow where I am but temperatures are dipping into minus figures and next week, the marina might freeze over. Snow is a possibility.
Thanks for the latest epistle. Seeing the wagons at the end made me think of how much heritage there is in the horse drawn world. Breeds of horses/wagon and coach building/wheelwrights/harness making and much more. Cheers from Bali.
Hi Steve, there are museums about that specialise in horse drawn carriages etc and some private collections. I visited one years ago and found it very interesting. All the best.
As an after thought. There are also working demonstrations and field days of old farm equipment, including steam power, and other rural pursuits. Anyway best wishes to you both. @@MyNarrowboatVenture
@@steveroperfilmsThere are indeed many such events throughout the UK but I’ve only once seen a wheelwright in action, which was very interesting to watch.
VERY Interesting indeed, !
Shame it had such a tumultuous / sad, history, but I suppose, that's what makes all the changes so interesting !
Very nice choice of Guitar Music, suited to the historic period !
Reminiscent of Trumpton and Camberwick Green !
Take care !
Stu xx
Thanks Stu, I’m glad you enjoyed watching. Choosing music is always hard, trying to find something that suits the subject is not easy, I’m pleased you thought it suitable, cheers, all the best.
We really enjoy these videos. Interesting that back in my husband's family tree there is a Bacon family (who married a Rice - so that's kind of funny) but I it is not the same Bacon family. Our Bacon family were - at least in the 19th and early 20th century silk weavers who actually came to the States to help with the weaving industry here. Interestingly - they ended up coming to a part of the country not far from at all where we live now.
Hi Justine, that’s an interesting piece of history, it’s good to have knowledge of your ancestors, I know some people aren’t bothered but I still dip into my genealogy research now and again and make updates. Glad you enjoyed watching.
As someone who is passionate about our British heritage and history, I'm afraid I'm not very interested in English country houses too elitist for my liking. Please don't think I'm being rude because I've loved your other heritage videos. Bye for now. Stephen
Hi Stephen. You must watch what suits you, when it suits you, so not a problem. I’m sure there will be other vlogs which will be more to your liking. All the best, take care.
@@MyNarrowboatVenture I nearly didn't post that comment because I didn't want you to feel it was a criticism because I love watching your videos. All the best
@@brodie2711 All is well Stephen. I've just published a video on a frozen Yelertoft marina, filmed and edited today (15th January). Hope you like it.
