    Just the refinement of the products being sold is the biggest advancement. Reliability and quality is key to selling products in today's paintball industry. So 2010-2020 id say the ease or the "quality of life" of constantly playing paintball got much better.

    I’d say that the biggest way paintball has changed in the last decade (although I’ve only been playing for like 6ish years), is that the gear got a lot more streamlined, lighter, and less clunky in general. Like looking at PE guns the Geo 3 and LV1 and Etek 5, and Emek all came out being way more ergonomic, lighter, and simpler than their predecessors. This trend can also be seen in hoppers which have more sporty low profile shells, tanks which have been getting lighter and smaller for the same size, and even clothes and masks which have gotten smaller and tighter fitting compared to the earlier years of the sport. And yeah, everyone needs to be the best possible ambassador to the sport, especially when the actual game play is rough on new players when they tend to be using heavy guns which are super inaccurate (I always get that complaint from new players) often against the best of us. As a whole we need to work to give them the best possible experience off the field so they will go and buy good gear and keep at it.

    Started before 2010, but last decade definitely got rid of the upgrade aftermarket. Think of a matrix, shocker, Timmy, etc... how many damn upgrades were needed from, regs, feednecks, asa, boards, bolts, barrel. Now the same top level guns come ready to go without a single upgrade needed. Main thing I see that changed

I have an original shocker 4x4 (shoebox shocker) that has literally never been resealed or maitenanced in any way and it still holds air and shoots 280 without any shootdown. Id like to see a geo or axe or luxe sit for 20 years and shoot without any bolt stick.

    "Be more positive, and not so negative"
    For me. That's where paintball popularity dropped since 2010. I played alot from 1997-2010. And I would say between 2008-2010 is when I started getting annoyed with the playerbase. I would always try to take some new kids and their dads under my wing and show them how much fun paintball is. But the numbers of less than desirable players that would show up to the fields on the weekends, picking fun at rental players, etc grew considerably. It may not be the same everywhere, and may not be like that anymore. But I have rarely played paintball since, even though it is near and dear to my heart for the amount of good memories I have had with friends. And I and my other middle aged friends have shifted to Airsoft (I know I know...boo this man).
    That and the variety of markers and aftermarket parts is not like what it was back in the day. You talk about cobbling together markers, that was a blast! Sure you can buy a Luxe and be good to go. But back then, cobbling together markers on a budget was fun, plus your marker became an extension of who you were. And newer players could easily remember who you were on the weekends just by seeing your marker, because it alone would leave an impact on them.
    And on the subject of pricing, that's another reason why I drifted.... now at 36 years old, I would rather spend $700+ on a real firearm, than a paintball marker. And myself and my friends find ourselves having more playing Airsoft on a much better budget. For the $1,200 spent on a high-end marker. Can be stretched tremendously further on a High-End $400 AEG, and $150 High-End Gas Pistol, a few pieces of quality gear, and basically a full year+ of gas and bb's, and yes we could also include basically 1/2 year of field fees (Once a weekend, half the year) into that same $1,200 budget. Which is why I see popularity with kids and their dads shifted over more to Airsoft, because of budgetary constraints. Spending $20 a person in field fees, and being able to bring your own gas and bb's saves a ton of cash. $60 for a case of quality 2000 paintballs, or $40 for a bag of 20,000 polished bio-degradable 20gr bb's?
    I still have a love for paintball. But I see the spark, camaraderie, and enthusiasm that was once in the paintball many moons ago have shifted over to Airsoft. Try places like Code Red or Warped Ops in California, or Ballahack Airsoft in Virginia, you'll see what I am talking about. The Ref's at those fields are top notch, and keep the players interested.

      I had the same paintball experience and pretty much only played on private land to avoid the jerks at fields. I've recently gone back to commercial fields a few times and it feels a lot more like my 1996-2005 experience. For whatever reason the jerks seem to have filtered out of the sport.

We still have those kind of people and companies but their not as big as they used to be in the “wild west” days of paintball 2000s early 2010s

    • @patrickcorcoran4828
      @patrickcorcoran4828 Год назад

      I've been playing for 25 years and I was a ref for 4. I remember reading a statistic in APG in 2009 that over 50% of paintball players play games on private land instead of paintball fields. That's certainly been true for most of my time playing paintball.
      What a lot of field owners don't understand is that players in rural areas have to be drawn to a field by something other than "this is a place to play paintball". We can build our own bunkers in our backyards and we're not impressed by some barrels, pallets and inflatables. I have a local field that's had the same crappy terrain since the late 1990s and on the rare occasion when I bring someone who has been playing on our private field, they are inevitably disappointed with the commercial field. The field I used to work at had towers, houses, forts, bunkers, and wrecked vehicles. It was fun to play on that field with terrain people couldn't replicate at home.
      I think you're right and scenario games draw in these private players who are looking for cool terrain and different ways to play. Those players meet up with other players, form friendships and grow the community. Stories of "Holding the Castle" and having pictures of an actual castle are much better recruiting tool than stories of "The Battle of The Stack of Barrels and One Pallet". Don't get me wrong, I've had great days running from pallet to barrel, but its not an exciting story to get new players interested.

    For 2010-2020, guns have gotten so much better and cost a fraction of previous eras. Something like an Etha 2 runs circles around just about anything from older generations and costs 1/3 the price
    . A cobra angel lcd is always going to be an awesome gun but that Etha 2 will do everything related to shooting paint better than that cobra. The mid-end realm has really been the backbone of recball and divisional play. Between the Etha 2 and something like an axe, high performance is more accessible than ever.

    IMO the best advancements in paintball technology from 2010-2020 was either the loader software and hardware becoming far more user friendly and getting softer on paint, or marker technology advancing to tear down faster with less and less wiring to screw around with, as well as markers becoming far esier on paint and mor air efficient. So imo, one of those.

    I really like the late model Angels (G7 fly were stupid amazing, holy crap) but a lot of the older markers irked me. WDP had some great technology and ergonomics in some ways, but then they made a TON of outright stupid decisions in other ways. For instance keeping the giant battery pack up in the marker body and refusing to use 9v for years, using the utterly horrible COPS system instead of eyes for even more years, having FOUR different barrel threads (tied for the most number of threads along with Tippmann), making a stacked tube open bolt marker that couldn't be field-stripped, using metric screws that people constantly stripped out (something Eclipse fixed), etc. I honestly think these barebones design choices hurt them when people were comparing markers. Of course who knows what would have happened, they may have ended up bad either way :(

    2010-2020 has to be affordability for comparable markers. Back in the early 00’s the 500$ guns couldn’t really compete with the angels and intimidators. Now a 500$ axe can kinda hold its own to dye markers and cs2s and other high end markers. Which makes it easier for more people to enter and enjoy the sport.

    My favorite gun my PGP 2k I want a phantom and a Carter Buzzard. Best thing for paint ball is to encourage a player to buy midrange cost mech guns. I feel like a lot of people think they will suck and get shot up if they don’t own a $3k set up. But if they go out with a $3k set up and still get lit up it’s going to be a unfun experience. Instead encourage new players to practice and learn needed skills with average gear. Then upgrade when the have the skills to back up a $3k set up

    • @patrickcorcoran4828
      @patrickcorcoran4828 Год назад

      Agreed on all points. My private group has been playing "Hopper Ball" for 12 years now. Limiting on-field paint to 200 rounds really helps with affordability and most of us have moved to 50rnd hoppers, pump or stock class.
      I wish more fields did limited paint and/or limited ROF days to help new players get into the sport. Its a lot better than it used to be, but there was a long time when someone with a 20bps marker could light up new players and catching 10 balls in your first game is a deterrent to having a second game.

    Being an ambassador is sooo important! Here in Reno, the paintball scene was ruined by Reno Indoor Paintball. They would put their tourney team against a group of rec ball players, only to get destroyed in seconds. Talk about losers!!! They drove every new person away from the sport. Now, there is zero paintball fields in this area. Pretty sad. Reno Indoor Paintball pushed away all rec players. Maybe someday another field will open up, that is a positive influence on new players. Get slider shorts, elbow, &!kneepads... only way your going to get away with sliding without destroying yourself. And work on skills & playing rather than looks & gear. Seen that a lot, it’s universal from golfers to real firearms shooting. Practice the basics instead of tricking yourself that some magic gear will make you exponentially better

    I have a question. Do you ever see First Strike rounds becoming significantly cheaper? Also, do you think there will ever be an alternative to First Strikes? I believe their price is holding back their popularity among players.

    • @PaintballRuinedMyLife
      @PaintballRuinedMyLife  4 года назад +2

      Unless they can increase quantity I don't see First Strike round becoming cheaper. I know there have been a few companies in the past you've tried to make alternatives RAP4/MCS being one that comes to mind.

      Paintball Ruined My Life Thanks for taking the time to answer :)
      Every now and then there seems to be a new shaped projectile in the works, e.g. maceyworks, but they never come to fruition. I don’t know if it’s genuinely the cost of manufacture or if it’s First Strikes monopoly that’s causing their price to be so high, but increasing their demand would potentially bring it down like you say.
      Seeing bigger companies like Planet Eclipse entering the mag fed market with high quality guns will hopefully encourage more players to play mag fed.

      @@Prezmir In my opinion their price is high because fields don't allow them, because they aren't biodegradable (photo-degradable means they just degrade into micro-plastics). Essentially you're shooting plastic bottle caps all over someone's land and most land owners aren't happy about people dumping tens of thousands of pieces of trash on their property every week.
      When they first came out I assumed they would be photo-degradable until they got the formula right for a bio-degradable version. Biodegradable compostable plastic is everywhere these days, so I don't know why they're so far behind.

      I started playing "Gunfighter Class" in college to save money. Its any marker, but with stock class horizontal stick feeds. The group I play with now is a little less strict, with mixed mech-semi, pump and modified stock class (keep the constant air instead of 12g). We all save a ton of money over the way we used to play.

    What would draw more players to the sport? CHEAPER PAINT!! The reason most people don’t play is because they can’t afford so much paintball the time.

    • @stogie0608
      @stogie0608 4 года назад +1

      MVP JORDAN if people can’t afford $30 (bottom shelf paint ex: Defy lvl 1) for a box of paintballs they’re in the wrong hobby. I don’t think paintball price is a factor. People assume paintball is expensive because beginners want what their friend have which many times are high end products.

      Katkrasherpb my local park allows you to bring your own equipment even paint . It’s unfortunate some parks price gauge like yours does by not allowing you to bring your own paint forcing you to buy they’re overpriced stuff. That’s something that needs to stop.

    I use do play paintball in 2014-2015; specifically speedball and scenerios. I have 2 full years of experience, so I haven't played since then. I'm about to play again for a party, but I don't have my paintball equipment so I have to play with rental.

    The only thing that matters on a paintball gun is how it preforms and feels when you use it, it should also look sexy too if it's $1,000+ but not if it ruins the reliability of it. This is why the Field One Force is the best gun used by the greatest team to ever play paintball, team Dynasty. I wish they would make it cheaper though because it's more of a $900 gun because it does not look sexy, it's made to just work and doesn't have a $1600 Luxury features. You shouldn't have to pay more something just because it actually preforms how it should that's a bad road to go down for paintball and will kill the sport. If Field one made some better looking guns that were more affordable but also had the same reliability as the Force they would take over the paintball gun market share!
