This is excellent! I cant thank you enough, my family has 5 people that come and go every now and again (college and stuff) but we only have 3 garage remotes, which means we can only ever recieve them at home if someone is there to open the garage for them or if we swap the remotes ever time. Whichever it is, its a constant bother to have to make sure everyone has a remote, thankfully we wont need them anymore :D
I was excited to finally find a video that explained this... *But you skipped past the part showing how to remove the old and get get those wires new red/white wires in that box thingy* I cannot believe this😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I am surprised you got this device, as you have a Tesla Model 3, which has HomeLink. If I am not mistaken you can program your garage door opener with the Model 3's HomeLink. Other than that I don't see how this is any different than having a garage door opener transmitter in the car. You still have to push a button on a device. It makes no difference whether it is a button the old garage door transmitter or button your phone. The phone is actually clumsier as you have to first turn it on, find the app, and then press the button.
I got this way before I got my Model 3. Mainly because I didn't want to have multiple garage door openers for different family members and didn't want to worry about changing batteries in them. I wanted an opener with an app since I always have my smartphone on me.
I did not realize that you got the GarageMate before you got the Model 3. Are you using HomeLink in the Model 3 now that you are able to do that, or are you still using the GarageMate?
Great video. I have a controller in car, but wanted to be able to control from phone since alot of times I'm out in yard and want to be able to control from phone. This one looks perfect!!
From manufacturers website: "GarageMate uses Bluetooth 4.0 offering the best wireless security in the industry. Bluetooth 4.0 is much safer than WiFi since it is impossible for someone to open your garage directly over the Internet. To discuss this issue further, let's say someone installs the GarageMate App. Let's say they also looked over your shoulder and know your GarageMate Receiver's PIN code. Let's say they EVEN have a copy of all our source code... then they STILL have to be inside your garage to perform initial pairing of their phone to the receiver. It can't be done from the outside. Lastly, if a determined guest did enter your garage and paired to your GarageMate Receiver then your GarageMate App will inform you that this happened. You can always delete and track unwanted guests. The same can't be said for a traditional garage remote control."
I hooked my GarageMate up this morning but have what I hope is a minor issue. When I activate the garage door button the door opens no problem, but when I click to close it, it starts downward then reverses back up.This is a legacy system just wired to + and common, so I don't see any way this could be incorrectly wired.Any help out there
I paid less n went about 40 feet. I think u were farther than 20 feet. Looked bout 50 feet, no problems yet, im always loosing the remote control, n now dont have to worry about it
Why not just use homelink? It is a lot more convenient since you just have to press a button rather than pull out your phone and it is inbuilt in your car.
Mainly two reasons: I wanted an affordable solution, and I wanted to have an app on my phone because I'm not always in my car when I want to open the garage door.
I understand your point, but an app is so much more convenient when you have multiple cars and when you want to open your garage when you're not in your car. For example, two cars + one in the house would equal three total remotes. Then if you are riding your bike and want to open the garage you'd have to have one on you or you'd need to get off your bike, open your car, click the button, etc. Plus you don't have to worry about losing them or replacing the batteries or buying extras. An app is just way more convenient for my lifestyle.

Great review Andy and congrats on being a new home/garage owner😉.
Thanks Daniel!

Happy to hear it. Hope it worked like a charm for you too.
Just ordered mine and can’t wait to hook it up
Enjoy!
Hi!
6years later, how is it?
Will it work from anywhere? Like if I forget to close the garage door, will I be able to close it if I’m at work?
he said it works with Bluetooth so range is between 50 and 150meters round about some bluetooth devices get up to a distance of 800meters
Thanks, Andy. Good presentation. 👍👍
How do you add the second garage door? I assume you need a completely second device since its hardwired into the garage door opener?
Ok, but after you do that wiring, will the button by the door and the old garage door openers still work?

Will this work with Linear brand?

Still using GarageMate and I love it. Works great.
Andy can you tell on the app if you left the garage door open or closed?
No I don't think it has that feature
A problem...

But how secure is this. Isn't it easy for any Hacker to Brute Force the Pin and send an BT Low Energy Signal?

Meco *Lol you muppet, have you ever kicked in a garage door, it aint difficult*
Does this need wifi to operate?
Thank you goat😎🤘
Thank you!
I can’t find the app please help me find it!
app links are on the homepage bluemate.com/
Andy Slye ok thank you this will come in very handy
Andy Slye I have a quick question ( sorry for asking so many ) can more than one person use the code in the app?
👍👍 it worked
lol the old school 80s remote is mush easier to use reminds me of the computer fax vs the phone fax.
All my Subaru vehicles have Homelink, even 2011 Tribeca, love it, save lot of $!
tnx, Andy
You're welcome

Plus, if a thief wants in your garage he needs only to get into your car.
Can we only connect it to one phone?
No it can connect to multiple phones as long as they phone has the app
Andy Slye thanks!

Still easier to use the remote or the buttons in your car. You just reach up and click. Not. Pull up. Stop. Pull out phone. Find app. Click.
